Ivanka Trump is the latest star to join the ranks of celebrity handbag designers. The daughter of billionaire Donald Trump and actress Ivana will release a range of purses next March.

“Just concluded a meeting with my handbag partners,” Ivanka wrote on her Twitter page on Monday. “The bags look amazing!!!”

She later assured her followers that they’ll be affordably priced, commenting “I want them to be accessible to everyone!“

Few celebrity handbag lines ever make a real impression on the fashion landscape, but I have high hopes that Ivanka Trump’s collection could break the mold. She’s already proved her design chops with her successful jewelry line, and she’s also got a footwear range due out in spring. She also seems very focused on her work, as she told People magazine last year that it demands too much focus for her to start a family. It’s nice to see a star who isn’t spreading herself too thinly, and I hope that approach will pay dividends.

I guess we’ll find out next March!

Cole Haan has released a limited edition billboard tote to celebrate its sometime design collaborator and former tennis ace Maria Sharapova.

Just 101 of the bags were created from the billboards advertising Maria’s Cole Haan handbags. It’s a great example of designer recycling, but I’m not so compelled by the execution. I like that the reclaimed material makes each tote an original, but the design is a bit lackluster.

If you’re a big Maria Sharapova fan, you probably won’t mind the boring shape and uninspiring finish. Instead you’ll be lured by her personal autograph on each bag, and that all important certificate of authenticity.

It seems I’m not the only one unimpressed by these totes; they were originally priced at a very affordable $50, but have now been slashed to just $29.95. If you’re a tennis fan, I’d visit the Cole Haan website quickly as they’re not likely to last at that price!

Lux de Ville serves up a healthy dose of retro style with its Sin City shoulder bag.

It’s not quite as naughty as its name suggests, but there’s definitely a rebellious spirit about the bag’s shiny black finish. It’s not genuine patent leather, but this glossy vinyl does a pretty passable imitation. Looking at the $66 price tag makes the compromise on quality a bit easier to swallow.

The polished black surface is embellished with classic diamond quilting. It works with the kiss-lock clasp, rolled handles, and sassy curves to give the Sin City its playful vintage vibe.

This is a generous purse, which may be too bulky for many bagistas. Some customers have complained that it’s too big, but if you’re a packrat you won’t mind the large dimensions one bit.

Just like a Las Vegas fling, the Sin City is a bag made to be enjoyed while it lasts. Its material isn’t the most luxurious, and its hardware not the greatest quality. But it’s got spunk and style in spades, and it won’t cost the earth either. That should make its short shelf life a little easier to swallow.

Whiting & Davis reinvents patchwork with this striking clutch purse.

Traditional patchwork accessories feature colored swatches of material sewn together, but not this one. Instead Whiting & Davis uses its signature metal mesh to create the illusion of patchwork. The multi-colored mesh appears much more modern than a traditional patchwork purse; in fact its shiny surface is almost futuristic! While most patchwork purses only suit daytime wear, this wouldn’t look out of place on any red carpet.

The interior is simple but spacious, with enough space for all your party essentials and a zippered pocket for valuables. I wish there was a chain strap tucked away somewhere in there, as such a large clutch could become difficult to handle, but this is the only obvious flaw.

It might not be the most versatile color scheme, but I’m drawn to the unexpected combination of purple and olive green on this clutch. If you’d prefer something more traditional, consider this Whiting & Davis purse in gold multi or black and silver.

If you’re looking for an affordable alternative to Chanel’s classic quilted flap purses, feast your eyes on the Bea bag from Big Buddha.

Of course, for $80 you’ll never find the same level of luxury that Chanel offers. But the looks of this quilted nylon alternative definitely take their cues from the iconic French bags.

I have been a little disappointed with DKNY’s accessories line lately. The bags have been, for the most part, over-designed and unreasonably priced. But this quilted leather tote is a lot more simple than the label’s recent pieces, and I really like its quiet chic.

The black leather is quilted into a minimal triangular pattern that gives the surface of the bag a lot of texture. The surface of the bag contains no other embellishments, so the buttery soft leather takes center stage. I’m relieved that DKNY opted for this minimal approach, as its recent bags have been an explosion of trends. By restricting itself to using only the on-trend quilted leather, DKNY has made a bag that not only considered chic today, but will also be chic for seasons to come.

The shape of the bag also lends itself well to versatility. The flat bottom means that you will be able to organize your things on the inside, but the soft sides allow for expansion, in case you need it. The generous size is also a good choice. You could definitely sport this bag instead of briefcase and stow most of your favorite electronics inside, or it will make for an extremely ample everyday bag.

At $345, this tote combines affordability and versatility in a way that DKNY will continue to produce. This is exactly the level of design that I expect of Donna Karan’s diffusion line.

Inge Christopher are experts at producing classy yet individual purses that don’t hit the stratospheric prices of some other designer bags. They aren’t cheap, don’t get me wrong, but at $88 I have certainly seen more charged for an equivalent silk clutch.

At first glance the Ingrid clutch looks like it is made from raffia. However, a more thorough investigation reveals an interesting textured surface made from gently shiny silk, a much classier material! It is this mottled brown fabric that makes the bag such a meeting of elegance and simplicity, without any of the over-the-top bling that so many clutches seem unable to avoid.

Also worthy of mention is, of course, the shape. That classic modern wave shape isn’t something I have seen before, and it washes away any assumptions that the bag may be a little dull. It doesn’t seem to have a particularly negative effect on the room you get within the clutch either, which is always a bonus! Instead, this makes this silk purse stand out from the crowd, and I think Inge Christopher has managed to make it interesting and simple in one.

Put your hands up and give me a wave if you are with me on this; the Ingrid clutch is a whole lot prettier than I feel like it should be!

I could see this being carted to the beach, where the big size will come in handy, and the durable canvas exterior even more so.
