Anya Hindmarch puts a modern spin on the popular patchwork purse with this striking Belvedere bag. And it seems the stars are already taking notice, as it was recently spotted on the arm of Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf.

The first thing you’ll spot are those gorgeous vertical black on black stripes. But what isn’t initially apparent is that each stripe is actually a swatch of high gloss patent stitched onto a mellow suede backdrop. I love that gentle black on black contrast Anya Hindmarch achieves here. It’s such a contemporary reinterpretation of patchwork that I expect to see other designers follow suit shortly. This could be the key to a comeback from this old-fashioned finishing style.

This generously sized bag opens wide, but its side snaps ensure it looks sleek and chic while closed. If you plan on taking advantage of all that space, the dual handles will be a shade too short for easy carrying. That’s no matter though, as Anya Hindmarch gives us a longer detachable shoulder strap.

At $1295 this Belvedere bag is a quite a pricy investment piece, but it’s one that’s seriously tempting me!

The Kardashian sisters have already shown their keen interest in fashion through their chain of boutiques and jewelry collection. Now siblings Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney are forging further into the world of style with the launch of a line of apparel, accessories, and homewares.

It sounds like a massive endeavor, but the girls won’t be doing it alone. They’ll work with designer Bruno Schiavi and clothing label Jupi Corporation on the collection.

“The Kardashian sisters are an inspiration to women of all ages and loved for their sense of fashion and style,” Bruno Schiavi said in a press release. “I am extremely excited to be working with Kim, Khloe and Kourtney across so many fashion categories – taking their brand to women in key markets around the world.“

The first cab off the rank will be a fashion range featuring ready-to-wear apparel, lingerie, belts, handbags, and wallets. Following that, the sisters plan to introduce their own branded luggage, swimwear, shows, and kids fashions.

Look for the first of the Kardashian sisters’ fashion items in stores in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Germany next year.

Anuschka handbags have always been beautifully painted, but just a little bit kitschy. The brand embraces its cheesy side with this Leopard in Paradise hobo.

This simply shaped leather bag is embellished with a hand-painted jungle scene. Vivid watercolors have been used to create the majestic leopard, Bird of Paradise plants, and thick Amazon foliage. The design is gorgeous, but also not intended to be taken too seriously.

This is a mid-sized hobo, which may pose some challenges to all those packrats out there. But you should have no problems finding space for your wallet, gadgets, keys, and other small essentials. If you know how to pack, you could even slip a few luxuries in too.

At $172, this is an expensive hobo but its workmanship probably makes it worth the splurge. It’s a little over the top, but with the right attitude I think most modern girls could pull it off. Just don’t pair it with a leopard print ensemble!

Sara Berman’s minimalist versions of trendy styles are quickly making their way into the fashion world’s radar. What started out as a summer project while she was in design school is making Berman into a prominent designer. This Cici bag is a great example of why she is becoming so popular.

The sand leather of the bag is buttery soft, and even sort of a buttery color. It’s sort of part way between yellow, nude, and tan, and is a fabulous addition to this season’s obsession with neutrals. The way Berman combines textures on this bag is interesting and unique. The quilted suede trim adds dimension and also protects the corners from wear.

The best thing about this bag is its versatility. It can be worn across the body, carried as a tote, or folded in half to carry as a clutch. Any way you carry it, it looks fabulous. Seriously, this is one of my favorite bags of the season.

The only things I don’t really love about the bag is the studding around the corners and the grommets on the strap. I just think they’re a little overkill. Other than that, the Cici is fabulous and pretty reasonably priced at $555.

Mulberry isn’t the most cutting edge design house out there, but it maintains a consistently high level of quality and good taste. Mulberry is the kind of line that will appeal to a lot of different kind of women because of its well-crafted, classically designed staples. This Lily leather shoulder bag is exactly what I mean.

The tan leather on this bag is durable and beautiful, and has a texturally-pleasing pebble finish. The color is conservative and versatile. The thing I like about the leather that Mulberry uses is that it stands up well to wear, and often looks nicer a little worn in. I think this bag will be that way, too.

The bag has a simple, squarish pouch shape. Honestly, it’s not very exciting to me in combination with the color, but it is minimal and practical. The signature turn-lock clasp and chain strap are the only real embellishments on the bag, and while their brushed gold is very understated, I think it blends a little too well with the color of the bag.

While Mulberry tries to add a touch of trendiness via the chain strap, I think it just comes off looking dated. Personally, I just can’t see paying $695 for a bag so monochrome, but I’ve never been very practical. Personal taste aside, I think the Lily might make more than a few friends in the uptown set.

Studs may not be quite as on-trend as they were a few months ago, but I still think they have some mileage left in the fashion world. After all, what would we do without fabulously rocky purses like the Shane from Kooba?

If you want to inject some attitude into an outfit, there is nothing better than some studded heels, or a studded handbag. It is generally advisable to not go completely over-the-top, and instead to keep the studs to one location; that way they can make an impact without weighing you down too much. This soft leather pouch is a prime example, with its cute and visually interesting studded flap. Gorgeous!

If the studs seem soooo last week to you, then maybe the leather will convince you around. It is of that gorgeous textured variety, a gently shiny crinkled leather that makes this very comfy to carry. Of course you do have a very stylish handle should you want one, but it is lovely to have a clutch that can be conveniently carried both ways. You do pay for the luxury leather though, to the tune of $245.

The Shane pouch is a cute and edgy purse, and I don’t think it is about to go out of fashion.

I know it is only August, but really summer is pretty much over already. I even noticed the leaves turning yellow on the trees the other day! This means that we can start turning our minds to autumn and winter, with its cold dark days and penchant for rain. In fact, the only thing that makes it better is the fact that we can now start buying A/W 2010 handbags and clothes.

The first purchase, for me, would be a winter friendly handbag like this one from Hurley. Forget bright colors and thin cottons, as even a handbag has to be able to withstand the demands of winter weather. With this in mind the tweed styled fabric exterior is more than suitable, as well as being smart and office appropriate. Just imagine teaming this with a thick tweed coat and some stunning knee high leather boots. Gorgeous!

Unfortunately, your leather boots won’t be accompanied by leather on the bag itself. It is a synthetic version, and although it looks quite good it is never really a substitute for the real thing. However, at least this means we get the bag for a cheaper price, which in this case is a total bargain. Just $39.99!

If I were you I would stock up for winter now!

The To Dye For is on the larger side of medium, just the right size for tucking away a few luxuries without adding a lot of unsightly bulk to your ensemble. It’s easy to overfill a bag like this when it’s part of your everyday wardrobe, but with a large zippered pocket and pair of open pouches you should be able to find your essentials easily. Each pocket is trimmed in leather too so they should survive the punishment of regular use.

At $158, this is a surprisingly affordable investment piece. For that price, it’s easy to justify the less versatile color options of ivory and poppy pink!

Bottega Veneta accessories are always an expensive proposition, but few put the kind of hole in your pocket that the label’s new leather travel bag.

This posh suitcase, known as the Nero, is made from the world’s elite alligator skin. I wouldn’t trust it with careless baggage handlers, but I wouldn’t hesitate to put it in the trunk of your car, or inside your private jet. The padded interior lining looks to keep your precious cargo safe, while the elasticized pocket and removable garment bag help to make packing and unpacking easier.

You might have thought I was joking with the crack about the private jet, but only the world’s high rollers would ever contemplate owning such a luxurious suitcase. If you fit the bill, be prepared to fork over 53, 000 big ones. Ouch!

Ananas shows us the potential in purses that are simple and small with the Ewa Waist Pack.

I must admit, at first this purse almost passed me by. Its smooth oversized wooden closure catches the eye, but there isn’t a lot behind it. Its shape is fairly unremarkable, and its brown leather body would be pretty drab if not for its stingray embossed finish. But in a world of over-embellished accessories, the Ewa’s simplicity is disarmingly charming.

Its appeal goes beyond its looks though. I love that Ananas gives us real choice here; we can attach the long strap to wear it as a cross-body bag or remove it and use it as a clutch. The interior is also surprisingly effective. It’s a small space, but by dividing it into two Ananas makes it much more user friendly. The fun yellow floral lining is also a delightful contrast to the brown leather exterior.

I’m not sure that Ananas has done enough to justify the Ewa’s $310 price tag, but it’s certainly not a purse to dismiss out of hand.
