Luxury British bag company Brahmin has been entrusted to design an official tote bag to celebrate this year’s Fashion’s Night Out festivities. The firm worked directly with Vogue to create the limited edition handbag for the September 10 event.

“Fashion’s Night Out is a truly amazing initiative and something that we are thrilled to be a part of,” said Jim Bunn, Chief Marketing Officer for Brahmin. “We’ve worked with Vogue and Vogue Studio, our creative agency, on several initiatives over the last couple of years, so we are very excited to partner with Vogue again to support Fashion’s Night Out.“

The canvas tote will be available from August 30 at participating Fashion’s Night Out retailers, including Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales, and Macy’s.

Limited edition or not, the $45 price tag seems a bit high for a canvas tote. To make you feel a bit better about that hole in your wallet, $5 from the sale of each bag will benefit the NYC AIDS Fund.

Mad Men goddess Christina Hendricks is following in the footsteps of Gisele Bundchen and Eva Longoria Parker as the latest face of London Fog. The flame-haired actress, who plays Joan Harris in the advertising drama series, will front the fashion house’s fall 2010 campaign.

“London Fog is a classic brand, which I love,” Hendricks told People magazine. “It also ties into Mad Men, we used London Fog in the show and this was a nice way to tie everything together.“

It seems the brand is just as fond of the Emmy-nominated actress, commenting that her own classic glamour helped her land the plum modeling role.

“Christina has a modern appeal but also harks back to a bygone era,” explained London Fog’s chief marketing officer, Dari Marder.

I love the vintage feel of these black and white advertisements, which were photographed by Nino Muñoz. And what a delight to see Christina Hendricks’ womanly figure draped in the new season lines, rather than a stick-thin model!

The new London Fog ads will hit fashion and lifestyle magazines and billboards in October. Are you looking forward to seeing them on the streets?

Design wise, this bag is actually a fairly good meeting of wallet and clutch bag. The belted design adds the interest, whilst the spacious interior gives you plenty of room for your belongings, money and cards. Over all it may be a little too big to fit in a small handbag, but it should survive OK all by itself. The croc print comes in handy here, making it stylish enough to carry in your palm, or with your hand through the convenient wrist strap.

Cheap and cheerful, this is perfect for people who don’t want a super expensive wallet, but just one that does the job.

I am pleased to see that Badgley Mischka has taken its luxury handbag designs into the realm of beading with the Stanwyck clutch.

There is nothing, nothing, that screams “evening wear” more than a beaded bag. It is very rare that it will look right under the light of day, but give a beaded purse some dimmed lights and satin glamor, and it will sing for you. Keeping it subtle is the key, what with so many shining beads, and that is exactly what Badgley Mischka has done. All the little glistening globules combine to make a solid but textured black, which frankly looks gorgeous.

Of course, as with all beaded handbags, you will have to be careful that you don’t knock too many beads off, as that will spoil the look. This is especially the case if the pattern of single sequins scattered throughout is broken; it will stop this clutch looking quite so high-end.

With a classic look and incredibly elegant vibe, this expensive clutch is the perfect partner to a floor length black dress.

If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to summer, feast your eyes on this fun Rounded Raffia Tote from Echo.

This quirky purse reminds me of the kind of souvenir you’d take home from a Polynesian vacation. It might not be handcrafted by Fijian locals, but its woven raffia body could fool your friends.

This kitschy accessory will never be the height of fashion, but I love the way the shape of the circular handles is mirrored in the curved lines of the two-toned body. I also love the vibrant color combination of natural toned raffia and bright sky blue, but it’s also available in black and java brown for the traditionalists.

The interior is fully lined and spacious, although I wouldn’t fill it with too many heavy items if you want the brittle raffia body to last. The open top design is also a bit of a security risk, especially without a platform base to keep the bag upright once it’s set down. But at least the style makes it easy to access what’s inside.

Really this bag is all about the look, and it delivers that for a relatively affordable $48. It may not get much use during winter, but if you treat it right it’ll be as good as new once warmer weather rolls around.

It’s easy to add a little color to your day carrying this fun Carla Duffle bag from Dooney & Bourke.

The Carla is available in a range of fabrics and prints, but I think this candy colored stripe purse is my favorite. I love the way the primary toned stripes make the white seersucker canvas pop. Some may accuse the pattern of being a bit juvenile, but stripes are so classic I think the label gets away with this vibrant print. I’d happily carry it, although I’d be sure to keep my outfit neutral to avoid appearing too busy!

The Carla really does what we expect from a duffle and then some. The domed design is generously sized with a plethora of pockets. A zippered pouch is complemented by four open slips, ready for holding your personal technology and sunglasses. The space is more than simply practical though; the hot pink lining gives it that extra Dooney & Bourke spunk.

My only hesitation is in the handles. They’re long enough for over-the-shoulder carrying, but a bit too skinny to feel really comfortable. At least they’re made of leather though, so they should be strong enough to hold.

$145 is a reasonable price to pay for this duffle which combines functionality and fun.

We’re all enjoying soaking up the summer sun, but as the days of August tick by we’re getting ever closer to the dreaded return to school. Donna Sharp can help you ease your way back into the routine with this cute backpack.

As with so many accessories from Donna Sharp, this is a backpack which delights in its femininity. The gentle yellow and green floral print, known as Dandelion, is the perfect way to hang on to summer a little longer. It will help to bring some original style to your outfit, even if you have to wear a dreaded uniform.

This is a relatively small backpack, so if you need to transport hefty textbooks and folders it may not be for you. It does have enough space to suit most school needs though, and a large front pocket for your house keys, wallet, and other small essentials. The back straps are long enough for easy carrying, but I wish they were adjustable. With school girls coming in all shapes and sizes, this little feature would really make carrying comfortable for everyone.

I’m not sure how suitable the cotton body will be for everyday use either. If you’re dropping it on dirty classroom floors or the football field, the pale fabric is bound to become grimy before long. This is definitely a backpack which requires more care than the average, and that may be too much work for many teens.

At least it’s affordable though. For $36, your folks won’t mind too much if you need a new bag by the end of the semester.

If there’s one thing that Hermes does well, it’s leather goods. The luxury fashion house will showcase these covetable items when it opens a floor dedicated to leather in its Madison Avenue store next month.

The refurbished space, which measures 2000 square feet, will showcase Hermes comprehensive leather collection in sleek new surrounds. The work of Parisian architecture firm RDAI, the floor will feature a sweeping spiral staircase, cherry wood shelving, floor to ceiling sliding glass cases, limestone tiled floors, and a leather paneled VIP studio for custom orders.

If your favorite Hermes bag is looking a little second hand, you can visit the in-house leather workshop station. There Parisian trained craftsman will restore your handbag to its former glory.

It wouldn’t be a luxury launch without the release of a few special purses either. Hermes obliges with the release of its limited edition So Black collection and mini satin Constance bags.

The leather goods floor will open at Hermes New York City flagship store on September 14, which is not so coincidentally in the middle of Fashion Week.
