We’re just leaving summer, but fashion is already looking ahead to colder weather. Nothing says winter like suede, and when it’s dressed up like this it’s downright irresistible.

The glammed up style comes from a shower of sparkling colored crystals. I love the way these tiny jewels pop against the soft black suede. That suede is lovely with its soft pleats, but it’s the rainbow of gems that’s the real star.

The clutch is a little larger than the average, and better appointed than most too. I really like the long zippered pocket, which is much better at keeping things organized than the tiny slips we typically see. My only gripe is the lack of shoulder strap. While these are never expected on a clutch, one would make this sizeable purse easier to manage when full.

I can imagine this clutch being a gorgeous accompaniment to a classic black dress or a daring multicolored evening gown. But I hope you have those items in your wardrobe already. With a price of $1025, this clutch may well exhaust your evening budget!

Are we all getting excited about Fashion’s Night Out? As September 10 inches ever closer we’re learning more about what our favorite handbag designers have in store. As part of the celebrations, Bottega Veneta will offer a special pre-launch release of its new Brick bag.

The Brick has a striking three-dimensional silhouette made from nero cervo leather. Bottega Veneta’s intreccio ad inserto technique adds subtle interest to the luxe leather. The generously sized top zip bag can handle all of your essentials during the day, or fold in on itself when you want a sleeker evening purse.

A total of 100 Brick bags will be sold in ten fashion capitals around the world, and a portion of their proceeds will benefit an unnamed charity. Unfortunately it hasn’t been announced exactly which stores will stock the bags, so if you’re keen on them you might need to turn up at your favorite boutique early and cross your fingers!

All over textures can look overwhelming, but Giorgio Armani has got the balance just right with this Pleated Handbag.

The soft Nappa leather is carefully crafted into tiny, tight pleats. It might remind me a little of the sports skirts I used to wear in high school, but I think the effect looks much more chic here. I’m not so convinced by the handles though. In and of themselves these rope-like straps are lovely, but they make the pleated material bunch up awkwardly. Such smooth, chic pleats surely deserve a clean closure to match.

It’s not a very big bag, which might explain the lack of organizational features. I’m thankful for the small pocket which can take care of change, but find myself longing for more pouches to keep my keys and personal technology in order. It’s also a shame that there’s no interior lining, especially at this price point.

The range of colors is lovely, if not altogether groundbreaking. The subtle hues include ivory, dove gray, black, and this sexy military green. These shades might make it easy to incorporate this purse into any wardrobe, but its hefty $1600 price tag does not.

Lauren Bush has been feeding children in need around the world for years through her FEED Projects totes, but now the former first daughter is turning her attention closer to home. She’s teamed up with Gap to create three new charity totes.

Sales from the new FEED Projects bags will benefit the National School Lunch Program, which looks to educate children on proper nutrition and improve the quality of food served at American school cafeterias. The canvas bag will sell for $29 while the two denim versions will be a bit pricier at $39. $5 from each sale will reach the National School Lunch Program.

Lauren Bush’s new FEED Projects bags will hit Gap stores around the country on September 10 to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out. If you just can’t wait though, you can find them already at the Marina District store in San Francisco, the Los Angeles outlet at 1969 Robertson Boulevard, and New York’s White Space concept store.

The secret is the combination of woven linen fabric and bone colored synthetic trim. The look is perfect for dunning yourself on a yacht as you cruise the California waterways, or perhaps just for those days spent dreaming about such luxury! The materials come together in a shape that seems more bucket-like than hobo to me, but that’s a good thing. It has a platform base to help it stand up, and structured sides to make packing and packing easy.

The easy, breezy looks are complemented by a design which is all business. When many bags are so casual that they forget what women need, it’s refreshing to see this one packed with pockets. There are four before we even unzip the top. You’ll find three more in there, along with all the space you really need to make it through the day.

You might not be able to afford the sailboat, but at least you can look the part with this purse priced at just $75.

Mulberry has a meticulous eye for the timeless. Almost all of its designs are built to last with few frills or unnecessarily trendy features. Which is why I was somewhat surprised by the design of this Daria bag. While it has some of Mulberry’s classic appeal, it has some trendy elements that are unusual for the line, and I just can’t decide how I feel about them.

I do know how I feel about the color, though. This very pale gray is absolutely fabulous! Gray may be a trend right now, but it is also versatile and a welcome alternative to black for fall styles. The super smooth, super soft leather gives the Daria a sleek look that keeps it refined.

The half-moon shape is feminine and also ergonomic. This is the kind of bag that fits right into your body and becomes part of you. It’s the giant logo plaque that’s giving me doubts about the Daria. It’s just so big! The trademark tree logo is lovely, but I’m not sure it needs to be so prominent. It draws attention from some of the more subtle and beautiful features of the bag.

The braided strap also strikes me as a little bit much, but perhaps it wouldn’t be if the logo weren’t so monstrous. There’s just too much to look at here, and while I want a lot for $950, I don’t ever want too much.

Sometimes there comes along a bag that is so remarkable looking, that it doesn’t even matter that it is made by a brand you have never heard of before. This ruffled handbag by MyGift is one such purse!

It only takes one look to realize why this stands out. The swathes of white are interspersed by contrasting hot pink reveals, layered between three-dimensional sculptural ruffles. Then, to cap it all off, you have the space age yet strangely art deco double handles. The leather ruffles lead into that circular central handle, and it all looks very eye catching indeed.

I sense that this hobo may be something of a love/hate product with the general population. Many people will find the risky combination of white and hot pink to be a little tacky, even though it is in real leather. However, if you like bold and feminine purses then you will be even more pleased to know that this one will only cost you $29.99, with plenty of practicality to boot.

Honestly, I don’t know if I like this purse. But I know people who will, and for them something this affordable is always going to be a sensible purchase.

In this spirit of this season’s parties, carnivals and fiestas, let me introduce this cute sequined Santi clutch.

Covered head to toe in layer upon layer of colorful sequins, this slouchy clutch looks like it should be surrounded by showers of confetti, and illuminated by the light of a thousand fireworks. It is so cheery that it is impossible to see this as formal or stuffy; instead, this decorative purse is all about fun, fun, fun!

Of course, that much color is a double-edged sword. On the one hand it allows you to coordinate it with a myriad of possible outfits. On the other hand, you may find it too bright to wear with anything that is bold itself. The shape too is a bit contradictory. Looking at it one way this sequined clutch offers space and practicality, in an elegant design. From the other approach, however, it is shaped exactly like so many other Santi purses, which may be a bit limiting.

This frame clutch is great fun, but has Santi done enough to justify the $163 price tag?

I’m sure that Ghibli had the best of intentions when creating this jeweled evening purse. But somewhere along the way it seems its design vision when astray.

This is an ambitious purse, with golden brown stitching haphazardly snaking about the black patent leather body. To up the glam factor Ghibli seems to have thrown a handful of round Swarovski crystals. The aim was admirable, but the execution is just a bit messy. Nothing quite gels, and the appearance is quite confused. You might be able to pull it off if you’re an envelope pushing pop star, but most of us will struggle to incorporate it into our evening wardrobe.

At least it’s practical enough, at least as evening bags go. The chunky brass chain strap is a lovely complement to the stitched details. The dimensions are a little larger than your typically evening bag too, so you should be able to fit a few small extras inside.

I can’t imagine carrying this purse but if you’ve got the confidence, and an edgy wardrobe to match, this Ghibli bag might work for you. If it does you’ll be happy to know it’s relatively affordable at $215.
