Mulberry’s line of Alexa bags has been traditionally somewhat conservative and utilitarian. This colorful new version is a major departure from the designer’s usual style, and while it isn’t particularly my taste, it is really beautifully done.

The fabric on this bag has such vibrant colors and such a soft sheen that it’s hard to believe it’s denim. It just looks so soft and touchable. But since it is denim, it’s also rugged and durable. I’m not really sure what the treatment on the fabric is. I’m not sure that tie dye is completely accurate, but it does have a very dip-dyed look to it.

The shape of the bag is the same as the rest of the Alexa line, but in denim it looks transformed. This is definitely the hip younger sister to the rest of the Alexa clan. The black leather piping protects the edges from wear and also contrasts gorgeously, if subtly, with the colorful fabric.

At $1,250, this version of the Alexa is $100 more expensive than other bags in the line, even though it’s not leather. But its larger size and unique stylishness makes it seem worth it.

If you want a new new tote bag for winter, then it is definitely worth considering this warm burgundy tweed satchel from Soapbox.

To start with, this spacious handbag is only $59.99, and for the price you get damn good looks. Of course, some people may feel tweed is an old woman’s fabric, but judging by the state of the catwalks this season, I would be inclined to conclude that equestrian chic is very cool indeed, and especially suitable for cold damp weather.

Thankfully for those who are still hesitating, the tweed is updated by the combination with those patent leather style straps, and the big over-sized buckles. This makes it stylish, and young. And, if you needed any more persuading, the interior is pretty darn useful, with plenty of pockets and lots of space.

Although probably not the best quality in the world, the Sara satchel is a stylish handbag that is very on trend.

Get glamorous with this Menbur Serpol purse.

Believe it or not, this purse isn’t a combination of metal and fabric. Instead, the fabric is actually more hard brass, formed to look like a gathered pouch. I like this; you get the reinforcement of a hard cased clutch, but with the aesthetic qualities of fabric. Of course, from the other angle this means that the metallic bag has a slightly less flexible capacity, but it is all a matter of swings and roundabouts.

I don’t usually like gold very much. However, the brassy gold of the Serpol clutch has a certain pizazz that sets it apart from tackier creations, and which also gives it the oomph to look glamorous on a night out. However, whether or not this velveteen lined handbag looks classy enough to cost $146 is up to you.

Small, compact and rather good looking, this is a quirky way to create a hard cased purse.

Valentino has been playing with rose and flower motifs for the last few years now. But when it continues to produce beautiful handbags like this Rose satchel, it’s hard to criticize the lack of originality.

While many of Valentino’s flowery handbags have featured delicate little blooms, this one almost dwarfs the satchel. Its voluminous petals spill out over the sides of the bag, creating a look of soft femininity. Sadly you’ll need to fiddle with them a bit to make them look quite as good as the photos do, but once you have them sitting just so the effect is stunning.

The gentle gray shade stops this satchel from feeling too girly. I’m sure that a hot pink hue would have been too much for sophisticated fashionistas, but this more muted tone is easy to incorporate into your winter wardrobe.

While the exterior is really a work of art, the interior is very sensible. There’s a large zippered pocket and two open slips so there’s no excuse for letting the clutter creep in. A zip across the top makes sure that all your essential items stay exactly where you need them to.

The looks have me swooning, but the price is enough to put an end to my love affair. I’m sure the craftsmanship makes it worth every penny of its $1595 retail value, but it’s still too rich for my blood!

Junior apparel brand Jolt is expanding its range to feature handbags and other accessories including scarves and hats. Kellwood, the company which owns Jolt, has entered into a multi-year contract with Concept One Accessories for the expansion.

“The new accessories license will allow us to offer additional merchandise that supports the Jolt girl’s efforts to lead a fun and fashionable lifestyle,” explained Brenda Palmer, Vice President of Licensing at Kellwood. “Concept One developed an exquisite line that maintains Jolt’s brand essence while adhering to their standard of quality and value.“

The accessories are affordably priced, with handbags costing between $18 and $35 and other fashion items priced between $15 and $35. We’ll see the handbags and scarves in stores next spring, with cold weather goods to join them in fall. Following that, we’ll see Jolt add even more items to its collection including swimsuits and jewelry.

I’ve been a bit critical of Ugg Australia bags in the past, preferring to keep my Uggs on my feet at home rather than to step out carrying them. But with this small cross-body bag, I think I’ve found an Ugg Australia accessory I can get behind.

On this small scale, the Ugg trademarks are a bit more palatable. We get just a hint of shearling trim and that cosy suede body, but it never feels old fashioned or overwhelming. Of course, a tiny purse is never as practical as a mid-sized one. But if you’re stepping out for coffee or a quick errand this winter, you won’t need to carry the kitchen sink.

Given its appeal as an on-the-go bag, I really like the adjustable shoulder strap. It gives us the freedom to use this mini purse as a shoulder bag or a cross-body one depending on the way the strap is arranged.

At $138 this purse is probably a little expensive for the size, particularly since it won’t look quite as chic come summer, but its quality might make it worth the splurge.

Canadian handbag designer Jessica Jensen has teamed up with New York fashionista Alexander Berardi for a nautical collection playfully named Tribe Called Hamptons.

The pair showcased their new designs at Toronto Fashion Week on Tuesday night. Berardi took charge of the apparel, with breezy draped dresses and sheer blouses accented by more structured tuxedo blazers and military jackets.

Jessica Jensen paired the fashions with textured clutch purses, totes, and oversized weekenders in mocha and ivory tones. Hand-woven accents, removable bows, ribbons, and feathers added a touch of whimsy to the maritime flavored accessories.

Browsing the photos of the spring/summer 2011 collection is enough to make me hungry for spring all over again! What do you think of this collaborative line?

Two’s Company created a messenger for the kids, and grown ups who are still kids at heart, with this playful Cupcakes & Cartwheels Hide & Seek bag.

An adorable green frog peeks out from the large front pocket, almost as if he’s playing a game of hide and seek. The drab army green canvas leaves a bit to be desired, particularly if it’s trying to appeal to junior fashionistas, but the brightly colored frog does its best to liven things up.

Sadly the interior doesn’t have any kind of closure, but it is quite well equipped with two interior pockets. I also like the long strap, which allows you to sling the bag across your body or wear it over your shoulder.

This bag is called a messenger, but it really feels more like a tote to me. It’s got a very simple shape, without the flap design we typically associate with a messenger. However, it is as relaxed as this style tends to be, so it could easily lend itself to schlepping books to class or sneakers to the gym.

It won’t suit any posh occasion, but if you don’t take your fashion too seriously this Two’s Company bag is a steal at $22.99.

The final installment of Lady Dior’s globetrotting adventures has been unveiled. In her fourth Lady Dior advertisement for Christmas Dior, Academy Award winning actress Marion Cotillard stands on the iconic London Eye ferris wheel with the British capital looming in the smoggy background below.

Fashion snappers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were again on board on shoot the French actress, who wears Dior’s Cruise collection and carries a gray Lady Dior purse. I can’t fault that elegant handbag, but I’m not so enthusiastic about Marion’s sleek makeover. She’s such a naturally beautiful woman, but it seems like she’s had all the personality taken out of her this time. This is probably my least favorite of the Lady Dior ads. What do you think?

Whether I like it or not, we’ll see the advertisement gracing fashion mags including Vogue Nippon, Elle, and Vanity Fair this December. There’s also another short film to come, which will hopefully be more to my tastes. It’ll be unveiled to the press late next month to coincide with the opening of Dior’s New Bond Street boutique.
