I am of the opinion you simply can’t go wrong with an electric blue handbag, especially if you team it with electric blue shoes! If you disagree, then I present the Hype Cindy clutch to dispel those silly ideas!

The thing with a bright color like this blue suede is that you have to let both the shade and the fabric speak for themselves. The temptation on the part of the designer can be to leave the bag plain, but thankfully Hype have found a way to decorate the purse without detracting too much.

That decoration comes in the form of a scattering of studs of all sorts of shapes and sizes. These give you attitude, harsh metal and soft suede. Delicious!

The shape is simple, the design sharp. I’m not totally convinced by the gold chain handle, but otherwise this abstract clutch is stunning!

Iron Fist is definitely one of my favorite up-and-coming brands, and creations such as the Digi Skull clutch show me why.

Skull prints and sequins could look both passé and overly punk at the same time. However, in this black and silver purse we see both materials, and the end results is actually one that is fun rather than funky, great rather than grotty. Thanks to the digitized design we lose some of the definition of the gothic shapes, and I think this is perhaps what makes this wallet into something tongue-in-cheek and good-natured.

What is particularly great about this little sequined wallet is that you get the usual Iron Fist flair and attitude, without some of the bright colors that can make its designs a little difficult to wear. In fact, this will be easy to coordinate with most clothes, and if not it can still hide within your bag.

This is a functional wallet with lots of practical features and a hell of a lot of fun to it too. The perfect combination!

Hobo International’s traditional styling has made it a favorite amongst conservative fashion fans, but I must admit many of its accessories leave me a bit bored. So when one catches my eye like the Caralee it’s reason to take a closer look.

This cross-body purse is simple but so compelling with its clean curved shape and V-shaped center pleat. I wish the exterior was made with authentic leather rather than a manmade substitute, but then we might have spent more than $118 on it. The synthetic is more convincing than many leather alternatives, so perhaps it’s a sacrifice worth making.

The Caralee looks dainty but it’s surprisingly practical. There are so many pockets hidden away inside that staying organized should never be a challenge. I also like the strap which gives us the best of both worlds, the vintage charm of an antique brass chain and the comfort of a soft synthetic center.

Hobo International’s traditional approach can often seem uninspiring, but I think it’s got things right with the Caralee.

Jessica Simpson looked to the dramatic style of Spain when creating this elegant ruffled Runway Flamenco Framed Satchel.

I really like the structured ruffles which add a flirty punchy to this traditionally shaped satchel. My problem comes when Jessica Simpson tries to confuse the look. In matte tones like this sienna orange it’s lovely, but in the crocodile and watersnake versions it gets a bit busy and confused. That’s especially true in the multicolored alternatives; the ruffles get lost and we’re never quite sure what we’re meant to be focusing on.

The interior is much simpler, with its plain black faille lining, zippered pocket, pair of open pouches, and key clip. There are just the right amount of pockets, and while the lining is simple it won’t show any stains.

The choice of carrying options is great in theory, but the longer cross-body strap has its fault.  It’s the sort of thing you’d attach when the bag is really full, so it’s a shame that it’s so thin. You can expect it to rub on your shoulders at best, and break due to the use of synthetic at worse. The short handle won’t make carrying easy if the bag is full, so I guess we’ll just have to grin and bear it.

At $88 though, I expect to forgive a few things. This satchel is well priced considering its unique sense of style.

Jimmy Choo has a way of making simple designs into something extraordinary and elegant. His sophisticated, feminine style has made him one of the most prominent designers of our time. This Babeth bag is a good example of how that happened.

I’m not always a fan of canvas bags. Most of the time, I feel like they just end up looking like glorified shopping bags. But this stone gray tote has a lot of extra touches that put it in its own category. The black snakeskin piping on the edges gives the Babeth a very sleek, defined shape, and the many straps and buckles make it the tiniest bit edgy. Maybe edgy isn’t exactly the right word, actually. Urban might be more accurate.

The generous size makes the Babeth perfect for toting around town, and the dual shoulder straps will make it comfortable to carry. Even the straps have little snakeskin plackets with stud fastenings, further evidence that every detail of the Babeth has been thoroughly thought through. This bag really delivers for its $1,150 price tag.

After seeing studded bag after studded bag over the last few seasons, I’ve begun to grow weary of the chunky hardware. If you haven’t though, you should be in raptures with the Pyramid Paradise satchel from Kathy Van Zeeland.

Kathy Van Zeeland has never been known for her subtlety, so the chunky pyramid studs that adorn this purse shouldn’t come as any great surprise. They seem even brasher and bolder against the red or black synthetic satchels, although I’d hardly call the bone alternative restrained.

I don’t like the studs, but I don’t like the boring plain back either. Surely there should be a happy medium between obnoxious and yawn inducing, but Kathy Van Zeeland hasn’t found it here. It might be a matter of personal taste, but I can’t imagine anyone warming to both extremes.

At least Kathy Van Zeeland never lets us down on a practical level. The medium size is just right, not too big for everyday toting or too small to carry the things we need. There are more than enough pockets, especially when we take into account the zippered one on the back and the two slide pockets on the sides. And I appreciate the choice of dual handles or longer cross-body strap.

All that certainly makes the Pyramid Paradise worth its $99 asking price if you can swallow all those studs!

It’s interesting for a designer like Jimmy Choo, whose own styles defined the first decade of the 2000s, to emulate the designs of the past in such an explicit manner, but that’s exactly what he’s done on this Roxana bag. Of course, Choo hasn’t just thrown together a bunch of outdated trends, he’s interpreted some of the best 80’s elements and made them his own.

The black leather on the Roxana is so smooth-grained that it almost looks synthetic. It’s sleek, buttery soft, and it contrasts beautifully with the slim, braided leather drawstring straps. On that note, while the straps look amazing, I’m not sure how comfortable they’d be digging in to your shoulder all day. Wearing the bag across the body will help, but it’s a huge bag, and it will be hard for most women not to fill it to the point of discomfort.

The slouchy style of the Roxana combined with the braided leather and bead detail gives it a bohemian vibe, but the flap closure with the smooth, geometric clasp keeps it classy. The tassels add a little rock-n-roll flair, but in a subtle sort of way. The Roxana definitely packs a wallop in terms of style, but at $1,250, it will also put a decent-sized dent in your bank account.

Katherine Kwei is offering us real versatility with her unique new Switch style.

The Switch purses literally allow us to switch between one look and the next. In its original mode the bag features Katherine Kwei’s signature knotted fringe. This fringe unzips though, so you can give the purse a much sleeker, minimalist look. Or you can turn the fringe around, zip it back on, and enjoy a disco-licious two-toned knotted fringe purse.

So far the funky Switch feature is only available on the Amber bag, but I hope to see it featured on many other Katherine Kwei purses next season. It’s just such a clever idea. We’ve seen convertible bags which have different carrying options, but I can’t remember a bag converting into three such distinct looks.

The Switch also makes the Katherine Kwei purses seem so much more affordable; now the Amber isn’t just a $665 bag but three different accessories in one!
