Miu Miu’s accessory line has been making a steady decline for the past few seasons. It’s kind of sad, really. I used to think of Miu Miu as Prada’s quirky, cutting edge little sister, but I’ve come to think of it as sort of a tag along little sister who hasn’t really figured out her own sense of style. This Vitello tote, however, is sophisticated, cool, and totally chic.

The pale, washed out gray leather is very of-the moment. The cool tone is beautifully offset by the warm yellow gold hardware. The grain of the leather is so smooth that it’s basically invisible. This, combined with the super shininess of the hardware creates a very sleek looking bag.

But the Vitello isn’t so sleek that it becomes impractical. Au contraire, it’s one of the most utilitarian Miu Miu bags I’ve seen in a long time. The size is generous, and the multiple straps mean that it can be carried many ways. Also, the top zips completely closed, which will keep all you stuff in place even if your bag gets turned over.

At, $1,470, the Vitello doesn’t come cheap, and truthfully, I think you can find an equally cool bag for less, but this is still the first Miu Miu bag I’ve seen in a long time that I think might be worth its hefty price tag.

Well, I’ve seen fringed bags before, but none of them looked quite like this!

There is more fringing here than there is bag, which is quite remarkable. My first instinct is to say that it  looks a little like a spoof prop from a comedy show, or like the sort of handbag Escher himself would have carried. The proportions are all wrong, giving it a hint of the confusing and surreal, and I think for this reason many people will absolutely hate Linea Pelle for ever deigning to create it.

However, I know that there are people out there for whom such an “out there” design is just a chance to go really high fashion. With the right pair of shoes the Alex clutch could make a massive statement, and if you have the style status to pull it off then I am sure you will be respected for it. You may get tangled up in things wherever you go, but at least you could never be accused of being boring!

Although by design this exaggerated suede purse isn’t practical, it is certainly unique!

Add a little bit of glamour to your everyday wardrobe with this fun Deena cross-body bag from The SAK.

I’m not always the greatest fan of metallic leather, particular on daytime handbags, but this purple shade known as concord is just too hard to resist. It’s very retro and playful, the perfect antidote to traditional gold and silver. These tones are available if you want them, but they just don’t have the same punch as this pretty purple.

The SAK gets away with this glitzy shade because the Deena is so simple and small. I could never imagine carrying a large tote in this metallic hue, but on a tinier canvas it works well.

Whether the Deena will become part of your everyday wardrobe probably depends on how many items you normally carry. If you’re a fan of oversized bags, you won’t even start to fit your essentials inside. But if you live life more simply you’ll probably find a bag this small freeing. Especially if you spend a lot of time on the go, this lightweight and compact accessory will be a great companion.

The convertible straps are a great idea, as they allow us to wear the Deena as a cross-body bag or like a storage belt around the waist. The second option isn’t quite as stylish, but it’s probably more secure. That’s definitely something to consider if you’re taking the Deena traveling to foreign countries.

We don’t get a lot of bag for our dollar, but for $49 we get a surprising level of quality and style.

Blogging website Tumblr has stepped into the land of retail with the launch of its new shopping destination, Of a Kind.

Online stores are a dime a dozen, but the concept behind this one is intriguing enough to separate it from the pack. The site carries exclusive, limited edition goodies from emerging designers. Each week a new designer is showcased; you can buy their pieces and read all about their life and what inspires them.

“The idea is to promote emerging fashion designers through e-commerce and editorial content,” explained Tumblr’s executive officer and co-founder Claire Mazur.

At this stage the website only features a handful of accessories, but it plans to expand to offer clothing in future. For now, I’ll just covet the whimsical charms of this Ernie Bunny Bag from Mandy Coon.

If something catches your eye, I wouldn’t hesitate. Each item is strictly limited, with between five and 50 pieces available, so they won’t stick around for long.

There’s a fun fairytale quality about this unique Crystal Pillow Minaudiere from Whiting & Davis.

The name clearly comes from that unusual shape, which looks just like the kind of pillow that Cinderella’s slipper might have been carried about the town on. The unique pillow silhouette is fashioned from hard metal mesh so it’ll keep its shape no matter how much, or how little, you’ve stuffed inside. Not that you’ll be able to fit much inside this delicate creature!

The pillow is adorned with glittering crystals arranged in rows to create vertical stripes. The effect is quite subtle on this gold bag, as it is on the silver and pewter purses, but more obvious on the black option. More crystals on the push clasp top complete the look of real luxury.

I’m glad to see this minaudiere doesn’t come with the sort of price tag usually attached to luxury items. If there were part of the Judith Leiber stable we’d certainly pay a four-figure sum, but Whiting & Davis has kept the price down to a reasonable $165.

Ed Hardy loves to create patterns that are a little bit naughty and a little bit nice. The unexpected combination of flowers and skulls seen on this Junkfood Snicker messenger may be one of the label’s best.

What I like most about it is that it’s so delicate. By keeping all the details small, Ed Hardy creates a print which is abstract. In fact, you might not see the skulls at all unless you were looking closely. I think that makes this messenger much more versatile than the designs the label typically creates; it’s subtler than the colored, tattoo style graphics, and in my opinion less tacky.

Ed Hardy rarely lets us down on the practical front, and this messenger is no exception.  It’s generously sized and made from a durable, easy-clean blend of polyester and PVC. It could easily hold your textbooks and even a small laptop, and there are plenty of pockets to keep your other gadgets organized. I also like the logo print shoulder strap, which is fully adjustable for just the right fit.

This messenger makes no reference to chocolate or French fries so its name leaves me feeling confused, but perhaps that doesn’t matter. Whatever it’s called, the Junkfood Snicker messenger may be one of the best bags to come from the Ed Hardy stable.

Alexander Wang’s Brenda bag was an absolute megahit when it came out a few seasons ago. Honestly, I can’t remember a bag that spawned as many knock offs, except maybe the Birkin. This season’s Brenda has been updated in sleek black leather, which may just take this cult classic right into icon status.

The main compartment is roomy enough for all your daily necessities, and the two front pockets are convenient for stowing all those little items that you need to get to quickly.

The price has gone up slightly on the Brenda, but honestly, who cares? This is the bag that is defining fashion right now; isn’t it worth $725?

You don’t need to be sitting on top of the corporate ladder to appreciate the traditional good looks of this Executive north/south tote from Fossil.

This is a classic office bag, from its conservative color palette to its reserved styling. I like the rich red-brown of this cognac bag, but the one you choose will probably depend on your business wardrobe. Black, browns, and even a gentle red hues are all elegant choices. More daring fashionistas may long for some more sassy shades, but at least these ones won’t raise eyebrows in a conservative office.

Aesthetics aside, this is a very well designed business bag. Its main compartment is padded to protect a laptop and Blackberry, and its external pockets are perfect for stashing the items you need on hand, or the ones you forgot until you were running out the door! We don’t get the attachable cross-body strap of so many office bags, but its shoulder straps are long enough to make carrying comfortable without one.

Given that it’s made from real leather, I was pleasantly surprised to see this Fossil briefcase priced at $148. That’s great news for interns and anyone else just starting out in their career.
