Emilio Pucci reins in his love of color ever so slightly with this rainbow clutch.

The typically flamboyant designer has resisted the urge to imbue this purse with every color of the rainbow, preferring instead to use complementary blue and turquoise tones. I appreciate his restraint here. The pretty stripes are fun without appearing over the top.

Those stripes are really what save this purse from being a bit ordinary. The golden kisslock clasp gives the clutch a bit of vintage flair, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. The interior is also unremarkable, without a lot of space, any pockets or even a shoulder strap hidden away.

Don’t get me wrong; I like this Rainbow Clutch a lot. It’s one of Emilio Pucci’s most appealing styles, and I can easily picture it popping against a little black dress and complementing my favorite pair of jeans.

But I don’t love it enough to spend $1950 on it. That’s a whole lot of money, and without any luxury materials or even a lot of functionality, I don’t think Emilio Pucci’s given this purse enough to deserve it.

Any marks will simply wipe away with a damp cloth. It also helps the Abby collapse flat when it’s not in use for easy storage.

The Abby’s generous dimensions are matched with a clever design. With all of that room on offer you should find space for everything you need. The gusseted side pockets will help bottles of shampoo and lotion sit up straight, which should make sure you don’t have any nasty spills when you reach your destination.

The Abby’s great for vacations, but I imagine it’d also come in handy for keeping your cosmetics straight while you’re at home.

A faux crocodile purse owned by Florida school board member Ginger Littleton may end up being the most expensive handbag of its ilk auctioned on eBay. Despite not being a genuine exotic, the bag stands at almost $13, 000 at the time of writing, with some 20 hours to go.

The reason for the popularity of this auction likely isn’t about the bag at all, but the story attached to it. Littleton used this purse to whack gunman Clay Duke who burst into the Bay County school board meeting and prepared to open fire. Her attempt to stop the attacker failed, and he sprayed the room with bullets, but thankfully no board members were hurt. Duke was shot by security guard Mike Jones, and later committed suicide.

Littleton’s bravery has clearly resonated with the public, who’ve made 82 bids on the bag. As it was a hand-me-down from her mother-in-law, Littleton decided to surrender it for a charity fundraiser.

All proceeds from the auction with benefit Mike Jones’ charity Salvage Santa, an organization which restores old bicycles and toys to distribute to children in Florida over the festive season.

LVMH, the company responsible for Louis Vuitton, has taken a larger slice of the Hermes International pie. The brand bought 17.1% of the company in October, but recently upped its stake in the French luxury brand to around 20.21%.

LVMH originally insisted it had only “friendly” intentions towards Hermes, but the founding families weren’t convinced. Given this recent development, I don’t think I would be either.

These founding families currently own almost 72% of the company, so I can’t imagine LVMH staging a takeover easily. But the Dumas, Puech, and Guerrand clans aren’t taking any chances. They recently created a new holding company, thereby “detaining more than 50% of the Hermes International” to stave off a LVMH attack.

Many analysts are predicting that LVMH is simply biding its time, and waiting to wear the Hermes families down. Something tells me we’ll be watching developments in this story well into 2011 and beyond.

I’ve seen bags accented with belts before, but I’ve never seen a label take it to the extreme of the Roxanne. Ellington has made a really risky design choice with this shoulder bag, but I think it’s paid off.

Ellington has given this bag a cool, rock ‘n’ roll style look without resorting to clichés. Studs have been done to death. Grommets aren’t a great deal better. But belts might just be the future.

We get the great metal pop against the black leather, but it doesn’t look tired. A lesser designer may have worried all those belts would look ridiculous, but the normally staid Ellington has thrown caution to the wind here. Rock is all about innovation and rule breaking, and the label epitomizes that sensibility with this purse.

Its looks entranced me, but I’m thrilled to see the Roxanne’s appeal goes beyond the surface. It’s a slender bag, but with a zippered pocket hidden underneath the flap and another zip pocket inside we don’t feel we’re missing out on too much storage space. I also like the shoulder strap, which can easily adjust from a shoulder bag to a more casual cross-body.

So many labels have strived to create an authentic rock and roll bag of late. Who would have thought the ordinarily conservative Ellington would take the title?

Oh, Chloe, I almost always love you. You who have made motorcycle-inspired accessories so very very chic. Thanks for this totally awesome 80s style bucket bag that’s both edgy and totally wearable.

The shape of this bag is such a traditional bucket, with the hard, structured bottom and the soft perforated top. The smooth drawstring and shoulder strap tie the look together, although I might prefer if they were in the same color leather as the perforated leather body. I’m just not sure that the bag needs the contrast.

My major bone to pick with this style is that the perforated part of the bag isn’t lined. Sure, this adds to the look somewhat, but it vastly decreases its durability. And for $1,495, I really want a bag that will last. The bottom, however, is both sturdy and fully lined, so if you’re feeling the look, it might be worth the risk.

Elie Tahari delivers the kind of bag that can happily take us from nine to five and beyond with this Beverly tote.

The weave calls to mind the Matelasse finish on the Miu Miu bags we’ve admired of late, but in dark denim it’s a little more casual. Just a little mind you, as the deep indigo shade wouldn’t look out of place in a club or most mid-range restaurants.

That chevron detailed weave is complemented by rich silvery chain handles. They look great, but I’m disappointed on a practical level. Denim centers to protect our shoulders would have made all the difference.

At least Elie Tahari brings function back into focus inside. This is an enormous tote, but the designer has exceeded my expectations on the practical front. Technophiles will love the four open pockets for gadgets. There’s also a zippered pocket for securely stashing valuables, and even a pen slot.

If Miu Miu’s Matelasse bags were beyond your budget, this Beverly tote is worth considering at just $398.
