Shutterbugs can take care of their camera in eco-chic style with this Nahui Ollin wristlet. Or at least, that’s what the Mexican designer would have us believe.

Because the truth is, unless you have one of those high-tech but basic cameras this little purse just won’t cut it. My ancient Pentax wouldn’t fit inside it, and the long lens of my brand new model is far too big for this bag as well. In fact, one customer said her iPod wouldn’t even fit inside with its case on. Yes, this purse really is that tiny.

That does make this wristlet a bit limiting, but that’s understandable. Nahui Ollin’s signature woven candy wrappers might be eco-friendly, but they’re not very strong. A purse crafted from these recycled wrappers will handle a small load, but I wouldn’t want to challenge it.

It has its limitations, but for a mere $40 I’d expect nothing else. It has flaws, but it’s so affordable and fun that I don’t care too much!

Target might attract big name designers for its fashion capsule collections, but Kmart is striking back with a bit of star power. The department chain has enlisted Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara for a new signature fashion line.

The collection brings a new sexiness to Kmart which is hopes will appeal to a more youthful clientele.

“We’re trying to fill a hole in the store. They wanted to appeal to a younger woman with something a little spicy. The times are changing,” Vergara said.

There are plenty of affordable items to choose from, including handbags, dresses, jackets, footwear, and sweaters. Pieces are priced between $9.99 and $59.99, so they represent great value for anyone still smarting from the recession.

It might surprise some people to see the glamorous actress tying her name to the department store chain, but Vergara insists it was a natural fit.

“This is not a new store for me. When you have kids you don’t go to Bergdorf Goodman to buy underwear and socks. You go to Kmart.“

I’m used to Mywalit handbags looking a bit like a rainbow threw up on them, but this one is remarkably subdued. The label still uses color, but it doesn’t use every crayon in the box. Complementary blue and navy trim works well with the natural toned canvas to create a summery, nautical look.

Sports car giant Lotus is entering the handbag market with the launch of its brand new lifestyle label, Lotus Originals.

The handbags are amongst a diverse selection of goodies, which include leather jackets and backgammon sets. The products nod to Lotus’ heritage, with tire treads, classic Lotus logos, racing stripes and numbers, and car silhouettes adorning the pieces.

“Our goal with the Lotus Originals concept was to create a range of apparel and accessories that really capture the true spirit of our iconic British brand,” explained Lotus director of licensing and merchandise, Wiebke Bauer. “Lotus Originals isn’t just for traditional car enthusiasts; on some of the pieces the branding is very subtle allowing the style and quality to shine, so we hope that it will appeal to a much broader audience. We have developed a collection that is luxurious in a classic, understated way so it is easy to wear every day yet still make you feel part of our very special brand.“

The online launch of Lotus Originals coincides with London Fashion Week on February 23. A bricks and mortar store in London will join the online home later this year.

After seeing so many wild lurid pink and tie-dyed bags from Mulberry, I’m thrilled to see the British label return to its roots with this Somerset satchel.

Some may accuse the brown oak leather of being a bit stuffy, but this conservative shade is much more timeless than the glaring colors and prints we’ve seen from Mulberry of late. Cashed up fashionistas may like to follow fads, but most of us will appreciate a color and style that won’t date.

While it’s not likely to inspire envious stares, there is a quiet beauty to the Somerset’s design. The pebbled leather is lovely, and the braided zipper pulls stylish. I also love the adjustable and detachable strap, which helps the Somerset convert to a clutch, shoulder bag, and cross-body purse.

The Somerset’s size might seem small to those of us used to oversized satchels, but it’s right on trend. The main compartment has only a single patch pocket, but there’s not enough space to really warrant more organizational aids than this. And remember, we do have the zippered pocket at the front for keys, cell phones, and other items you might want on hand.

At $550 the Somerset is no impulse buy, but you should get enough use from it to justify the significant price tag.

This is a functional and luxurious tote from Jessica Jensen.

I suppose the leather in this tote takes front and center stage. It is soft and crinkled, looking more like an aged leather armchair than a smooth and sleek fashion creation. However, as with all classic leathers, those imperfections and lumps and bumps are what give the appropriately named Authentic its authenticity!

Other than the leather, the design of this hold-all is simple. It’s square, spacious, with a divider in the middle and a classy but perhaps a little bland suede interior. The only decoration is also leather: those three square origami inspired buttons that grace the front. They make the tote more interesting, but in a way that allows it to still be practical and work friendly.

Jessica Jensen may not have changed the world with the Authentic, but she has created something sophisticated and classic.
