Gorjana reminds us that cross-body bags can be sophisticated with the Madison.

All too often cross-bodies are casual, boho styled affairs, but this one is a more elegant creature. Its pebbled leather body is a very pretty pale gray, and since Gorjana has used lambskin it slouches in all the right places.

It’s certainly not slovenly, but those gentle pleats really emphasize the quality of Gorjana’s materials. Hidden stitches complete the Madison’s timeless design.

I’m particularly impressed by the Madison’s carrying options. We have the choice of a short shoulder strap or a longer cross-body one. Each one simply detaches so you can enjoy the carrying mode that’s most convenient without excess straps dangling about. This makes the Madison look much cleaner than most convertible purses, and in my opinion much more refined.

If I have any complaint at all, it’s the lack of zippered pocket inside. The three open pouches should help us stay organized, but I’d love a spot more secure for my keys and loose change. The zip top closure does offer some protection though, so the omission isn’t a deal breaker.

That’s especially true at this price, a relatively affordable $320. That’s still not small change, but it’s less than I’d expect to pay for a bag of such timeless style and superior quality.

Pilar Abril gets colorblocking right with this retro Nenufar satchel.

I haven’t always warmed to the colorblocking trend, but by keeping the colors gentle and harmonizing Pilar Abril has created an accessory I can really get behind. The combination of pale teal and mint green is unexpected but stunning, especially with its chic snake print finish. Unzip the front though and you don’t just get extra storage space. A white panel peeks through, complementing the white swatches near the handles.

The Nenufar’s curved wooden handles fit in perfectly with the satchel’s retro design. I love the look, but I accept they’re not altogether practical. They’ll work fine if you’re traveling light, but once the Nenufar gets any weight they’ll become uncomfortable to carry. Adding a longer shoulder strap would have fixed the problem, but I’m not surprised that we don’t get it for this price.

That price is a relatively reasonable $92. I had hoped for genuine leather, although I certainly wouldn’t expect it, especially considering all the style and substance Pilar Abril already gives!

New York based designer DBD originally started Sprayground to create backpacks for street artists needing to transport their spray cans. But the label has come a long way since creating those blank backpacks. These days the company makes bold printed packs which are like wearable works of art.

Stop the presses! Kenneth Cole says it’s created something to talk about with this Tabloid wristlet.

Honestly though, I’m not sure such a traditional wristlet will create a lot of buzz. It’s much too tame to be gossiped about, with only a row of small silver studs creating any real interest.

While it might not get tongues wagging, that’s not to say the Tabloid isn’t worth considering. The clean design actually works to our advantage in many ways. It’ll be easy to work into a wardrobe, as it’ll suit any occasion or outfit. It’s also not going to date as quickly as its studded rivals.

Its dimensions are also as close to perfect as we can get for everyday use. The interior pockets are ready to accept credit cards, while the rest of the space is large enough to suit a checkbook, cosmetics compact, cell phone, and even a small camera and comb. It’s also not large enough to become awkward to carry, a real consideration for an accessory that will dangle from your wrist.

Considering its high quality leather and timeless style, the Tabloid wristlet is very affordable at $58.

Jimmy Choo wants his company back. The shoe designer hasn’t been involved with his namesake label since 2000, but he’s offering £500 million to take the reins once again.

British private equity firm TowerBrook currently owns the majority of the company, but word is that they’re keen on selling. LVMH, Valentino, and a few other private equity firms have shown interest in taking over those shares, but Jimmy Choo isn’t worried.

He’s enlisted adviser Daniel Stewart to help seal the deal. That will involve recruiting investors to back his bid, but Stewart has enough experience in this arena to help him find the right ones.

Lauren Goldstein Crowe, author of The Towering World of Jimmy Choo: A Glamorous Story of Power, Profits, and the Pursuit of the Perfect Shoe says that iconic Jimmy Choo name may be the key to Choo’s success.

“It’s feasible that an Asian investor would be interested,” she said, adding that the marriage of Asian moniker and luxury could prove enticing.

If the deal does go through, all eyes will be on what happens to Tamara Mellon. She currently owns 15% of the business, and holds the titles of co-founder and chief creative officer. Ms. Crowe predicts that Mellon would certainly move on if Choo were to take control once again, but it remains to be seen.

Silvia Tcherassi is the latest designer to launch a capsule collection with Payless ShoeSource. Tcherassi is an apparel and bridal gown specialist, but brides to be are out of luck. Her Payless line will instead feature handbags and shoes.

This is the first time that Tcherassi has designed shoes, and her handbags have always been few and far between, so I’m excited to see what she comes up with. We have just a few clues about what’s in store. The upcoming range will feature on-trend shoe silhouettes including wedges, strappy heels, and thong sandals. Fashion-forward accents including mesh uppers, satin ribbons, and colorblocking will complete the footwear styles. Details are a little light on for the purses, but we can expect them to complement the shoes and be every bit as modern.

Her Payless deal will see Silvia Tcherassi release two diffusion collections each year, one in spring and one in fall, for the next two years.

As we’d expect from Payless, Silvia Tcherassi’s new collection will be affordably priced between $40 and $70. Those prices are ideal for women wanting to indulge in the latest trends without spending a lot of money. Look for the goodies in Payless stores this May. Santina Bowers realized every woman’s dream this week when she was married in the handbag aisle of Macy’s Herald Square store.

It sounds like a strange place to tie the knot, but the story behind the nuptials is very romantic. California born Santina first met her groom, New York City police officer Moise Naolo, while she was visiting the Big Apple in 2009. They were both admiring the same floral arrangement at the Macy’s flower show. A conversation led to the exchanging of phone numbers, which led to a long distance affair of the heart.

A year later the couple returned to the flower show, and Naolo proposed in style. With a little help from Macy’s, he posted a sign in the store window which read “Santina, will you marry me?”

How could she possibly say no? She moved to New York shortly after, and the pair began to plan their big day.

Considering how instrumental Macy’s had become in Santina and Moise’s love story, the department store wanted to do what they could for the couple’s big day. They hosted the wedding, which was naturally held during this year’s Macy’s Flower Show. They also offered up a wedding gown from their bridal salon, a cake from Martha Stewart Weddings, and Excellent Polish Jewelry and Dior cosmetics for the bride.

Can’t you just imagine being married amongst all those designer purses? I can’t think of anything more romantic!

I am starting to really like Felix Rey. The brand keeps on making luxury handbags with slightly unusual touches, and any unique qualities deserve to be recognized in the fashion industry!

In the case of this gorgeous black tote, the special touch is in the sequins. Thousands of the little things cover the entire body of this otherwise simple square tote. At first glance it looks like the glittery tote is actually made of metal mesh, but the sequins are a much more lightweight alternative, not to mention much more interesting in terms of reflecting the light. That said, I do have to mention the annoying tendency for sequins to get bent out of shape and ruffled out of place!

Although the sequins tend to be the focal point of a purse like this, I think the handle is actually worth a mention. What a rarity for any design effort to be put into this section. However, were the slender leather not enough, the designers have added in the cutest little leather bow. How adorable!

What is the opposite of a purse with studs? Why, one with holes, of course!

Whilst we have seen the Diana clutch before, the Ariel edition takes it into new and unfamiliar territory. Those popular pointy studs that made the first version such a success have been removed, and the opposite (grommets) have been added in their place. It’s a risky move, replacing one of the most popular features, but thankfully grommets are cool enough to pretty much guarantee that the Ariel will be just as popular as its predecessor.

The Diana Ariel comes in three colors: olive, elephant brown and blue. However, the great contrast between metal and luxury leather is lost in the more conventional shades, as is some of the attitude. If you really want to walk the line between luxurious and edgy, you will need the blue. Nothing else will do.

Lauren Merkin has done it again, creating a purse that is luxurious inside and out, and good looking too. I approve!
