It’s very simple, but the pop of color this Comme des Garcons color-block wallet brings has put a smile on my face.

Comme des Garcons decorates this basic pouch shaped wallet with bold fluorescent hues. On the front we see part of a red spot against a bright blue background. Turn it over and the blue has been replaced with vivid lime green. I’ve never been partial to the color-blocking trend, but on such a simply shaped bag it really adds spice.

Calling it a wallet is perhaps a bit of a stretch though. Instead it’s much more like a coin purse. There are a few organizational pockets, but essentially we need to lump everything into the main compartment. The zip top closure will make sure it stays safe, but I can’t promise it’ll be organized!

You’ll find better designed purses for your $95, but will they be as cute? If you can manage to downsize and carry this wallet as a clutch, I’m sure you’ll see value for your money.

Yves Saint Laurent has enlisted Africans artisans to give its famous Muse Two bag a green makeover.

The women from the Gafreh Association, a cooperative in Burkina Faso, West Africa handmade each bag entirely from sustainable fabrics. Can you believe this purse is crafted from recycled plastic bags and fair trade woven cotton? It’s incredible to think simple cotton and grocery bags could create something that looks so luxurious. Those African women really know their stuff! These eco-friendly materials will also make the new bags much lighter than their leather and patent alternatives, and they should be better able to survive the elements.

The release of the Muse Two Artisanal Recycled bag furthers Yves Saint Laurent’s commitment to innovative design and social responsibility. I’m personally thrilled to see the fashion house taking steps to give back to the planet and its people.

Considering the work that goes into a bag of such quality, only 60 were made. The online stock has been exhausted, so you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled at Yves Saint Laurent’s flagship stores around the world if you want to get your hands on one. Considering their limited status I think they’re reasonably priced at $1720. That’s not exactly chump change, but we all know something so exclusive could cost a great deal more.

Feathers are one of those curious accents. They’re a pretty cheap commodity, yet whenever they’re attached to an evening purse it seems to send the price sky high. Coloriffics bucks the trend with this stylish satin evening bag.

The feathers are just as lovely as any I’ve seen on a Christian Louboutin or Maison Martin Margiela purse. I just wish they were allowed to speak for themselves. Instead Coloriffics has plonked a gaudy collection of gemstones on top. If you love bling you’ll appreciate these faceted jewels, but I think this design would have been much stronger without them.

While we’re talking about tackiness, I’m also not a fan of the chain strap. I appreciate it on a practical level, but did those links have to be so large? Something more delicate would have been much more befitting such an elegant evening bag.

This Coloriffics purse is available in a choice of white or ivory. I’m not sure it’s intentional but I can’t help thinking about the movie Black Swan when taking in the color choices. The white one is innocent and graceful, while the ivory version is darker and more sensual. And at just $43.95, they’re affordable enough for us to indulge in purses to reflect both sides of our personality!

I’m not always Gucci’s biggest fan. I like its old school equestrian styled accessories, but I don’t always love its take on contemporary. It’s just a little flashy for me. But this New Bamboo tote is anything but flashy. It’s all classy, and totally covetable.

I love the monochrome multi-dimensionality of this bag. The smooth black leather is complemented well by the studding, whipstitching, and braided elements. The patterns created by the combination of textures give the Bamboo an almost Western look, with the exception of the handle, which is more Asian-inspired.

The shape of the Bamboo is curvy and seductive. It reminds me of Alexander McQueen’s Novak bag in the best possible way. It strikes a great balance between beauty and practicality that is hard to find. It’s not too big and not to small.

The only thing I don’t really like about the Bamboo is what it’s named for: the bamboo-inspired handle. I just don’t think it fits in well the the aesthetics of the rest of the bag. I could also do without the tassels. They seem a little in the way.

I feel conflicted about the Bamboo’s $4200 price tag. On the one hand, I think most of the design is really solid. But on the other hand, $4200 is a pretty high price to pay for something that isn’t exactly perfect.

I was just thinking, “The only thing my wardrobe is missing is a handbag shaped like a mouth.”

OK, so I clearly wasn’t thinking this. I doubt anyone was. Despite this, however, someone has clearly decided that having a gobby little purse is the next big thing, and from the moment I saw it I knew I was going to have to present it for your delectation.

Whilst I attempt to rein in the mouth puns, let’s talk about the features of this novelty coin purse. It is really just a little faux leather pouch with a zip closure, and when the zip is undone the big red tongue flops out. It is handy for your shrapnel and lost buttons, and would fit in another bag very easily. I am hoping, desperately, that the silly design is more tongue in cheek (see what I did there?) than deadly serious, although it could be a good purse to purchase around about Halloween!

If you just can’t wait to get your teeth into this Smiling pouch then no worries. it is only $12! For that sort of loose change you can afford to be a little barmy!

They say it’s not easy being green, but this Claire Mini Satchel from Cole Haan makes it look effortless!

Seriously this color has sucked me in. It’s poppy and youthful without being juvenile, a fresh shade sure to stand out in a sea of black, brown, and beige. I’ve never really been a fan of green, but this vivid springtime hue might just force me to reconsider my stance.

If the design was more innovative such a bright color may have been too much, but Cole Haan has taken a more traditional path. The classic flap design with its metal clasp reminds me of a Mulberry satchel in the best possible way.

I appreciate the leather trim around the pockets which should help them survive some heavy duty use. The twill lining is also durable, although in such a pale fabric it may show stains. My biggest hesitation is the lack of metal feet though. I admire that green leather so much, I don’t want to see it getting scuffed or scraped. Be careful where you sit it down or the Claire will show signs of wear and tear before its time.

The short shoulder straps are another of the Claire’s downfalls. They give the satchel that appealing retro style, but they also make it a bit awkward to carry.

At $348 though I think the Claire is worth the effort. If you’re worried about getting the use from such an unusual shade, consider it in more traditional black and woodbury brown tones.

Bottega Veneta is promoting its luggage and travel bags with an enigmatic short film, Viaggio Notturno.

The short was filmed in New York City, the base of its director Christian Weber, and scored by Texan instrumental band Balmorhea. It reminds me a lot of the videos so many fashion labels are producing these days which favor an artsy film-school sensibility over traditional marketing spin.

At least I can almost follow this one though. In case it wasn’t clear to you, Weber says the movie follows a man and a woman staying in a high class hotel. “Whether they are in the same space at the same time is unclear. Indeed, the creation of a narrative is left to the viewer.“

Bottega Veneta’s creative director Tomas Maier says he was compelled to make the short film to show a different side of travel, “what is surreal, romantic, and potentially transformative about a voyage.”

The short film is visually stunning, but I’ve got to say that it doesn’t exactly make me want to travel, or buy Bottega Veneta. I remember thinking that the suitcases are lovely for a split second, but that thought was quickly replaced by the question “So what’s going on here?”

Some modern pleats help make this Edith clutch an accessory that’ll be just as home in the daylight hours as it will at night.

I wouldn’t carry it to a black tie gala, but this contemporary clutch would certainly work for the evening functions on most social calendars. I can imagine carrying it to dinner at a decent restaurant or a nightclub for drinks and dancing with the girls. Knowing its versatility should help you swallow that $325 a little easier.

I think Coccinelle has certainly earned the money here. The leather is buttery soft, and the rectangular pleating is continued over to the back of the purse. I really like these pleats which are eye-catching and very original. By refusing to bow to trends Coccinelle’s ensured its Edith won’t fall out of favor any time soon.

In regular mode the Edith has enough space to work for an evening out, but it may struggle to transition from daytime use to after five. Thankfully this clutch is also convertible. Just unfold it and you’ll have twice the capacity to play with.

For me the only downside is the choice of colors. The conservative hues will easily work their way into your wardrobe, but they’re also downright boring. Such a contemporary purse deserves a few modern shades to match it.

Coach has forgotten its signature prints and colorful Poppy patterns to create this much sleeker Leather Stripe Colette Hobo. As someone who’s never embraced Coach’s favorite looks, I think this more minimalist approach has paid off.

The green colored leather first sucked me in. The hue looks so fresh and inviting, and it’s perfect for spring. You might worry about incorporating it into your wardrobe, but I think it could add a delicious pop of color to a neutral outfit. At least, I’m willing to try making it work!

The green leather works well with the golden hardware and logo plate. I’ve never been a fan of loud logos, so I appreciate this small collection of Cs. They’re abstract enough to look like a design element rather than an obvious bit of branding.

I could gush about the clean exterior all day, but it’s worth noting what Coach has stashed away inside. The spacious satin lined interior is kitted out with a generous zippered pocket and pair of gadget pouches. A zip top closure ensures your precious cargo stays safely inside.

At $328 the Colette is well priced for a hobo of such style and substance.
