It’s all about accessories this week in the eBay Fashion Vault. The designer sale portal is selling shoes and handbags at up to 85% off!

There are plenty of items to choose from, no matter what your budget or taste. With colorful beach totes from Magid, on-trend purses from Junior Drake and Hype, and elegant evening options from BCBGeneration, the hardest part is choosing just one! Although at these prices, perhaps you don’t have to! These cute day bags and evening clutches can easily be paired with the range of discounted shoes from Yellow Box, B. Makowsky, Zigi Girl, Charles by Charles David, and more.

If you do want to grab a few items to refresh your wardrobe, I wouldn’t wait too long. While the Fashion Vault only opened this morning, and won’t close until 9 pm Pacific Time on Friday July 22, the best items never last that long. There’s no need to look at your watch. Betsey Johnson is quick to tell us that it’s Cheetah Time!

I’m not sure whether I share Betsey’s enthusiasm, but I certainly can’t ignore her barrel bag. That hot pink color is practically iridescent, and the aqua blue highlights really make those black cheetah spots pop. The combination is probably too much for all but the most devoted Betsey Johnson fan, but this isn’t a label known for its subtlety.

That reputation is upheld in the long shoulder straps. The woven chains seem like a homage to Chanel, but they’re much chunkier than anything the esteemed fashion house would ever have produced. And if we weren’t already feeling the assault on our senses, there’s Betseyville’s familiar lightning bolt keychain!

But strip away all that sass and you’ve got a decent handbag here. It’s not incredibly large, but it is much wider than the average purse. That allows us to make much better use of the space on offer, as does the selection of interior pockets.

Yes it’s a bit of a novelty, but at a mere $88 the Cheetah Time doesn’t have to take itself too seriously.

When most of us think of beach bags we tend to imagine brightly colored, easy access totes made of cotton or woven straw. But these handbags are a far cry from the one Diesel displayed in its recent Miami Fashion Week Swim show.

If it’s up to Diesel, we’ll soon be carrying large double handled satchels to the shore. The style doesn’t immediately scream summer to me, but perhaps that’s part of its appeal. Rather than simply packing it away after our beachside vacations we’ll be able to carry a bag like this throughout the year.

The detachable shoulder strap only makes this new Diesel satchel seem more versatile. The neutral color palette is another smart choice. It’ll pop against the vibrant swimwear Diesel offers, but work itself easily into a wardrobe in any season.

Diesel claims the bags are spacious enough to carry a beach towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, magazine, and even an iPad, but I’m still not sure. The satchels seem very structured, so I’m unsure whether they could really hold as much as those soft fabric bags we typically see on the beach.

I guess we’ll find out when Diesel’s swim collection hits stores. Do you think we’re ready for a beach bag revolution?

7286 is Lindsay Lohan’s pet project, something to keep the starlet occupied while she’s waiting to land that next movie role or wind up back in rehab. I must admit that I haven’t seen a lot of the collection, but if the Fifi is any indication the troubled celebrity may be best served getting back into the acting game. A designer she ain’t.

I don’t mind the ocelot printed synthetic; it’s got a sooty, smudged quality that makes it appear more realistic than the crisper markings we often see. But those chunky black buckle accents are very heavy handed, a feature that attempts to dominate a design that was already busy enough. The 7286 tag also sits awkwardly off to the side, but thankfully this is removable.

The Fifi has all the features we could ask for in a purse of this size. Its strap is detachable, so we can carry it as a clutch or sling it over our shoulder depending on our mood. It’s also packed with pockets, perhaps more than we might have expected. But it’s very narrow, so despite its practical features this baguette will probably only work for us when we’re stepping out to the clubs.

At $80 I suppose we don’t need to get a lot of use from the Fifi, but I can still think of better ways to spend that kind of cash.

Fringe, a hair salon in Brooklyn, New York, is helping its customers enjoy a whole new look with its innovative business model.

The salon sells handbags, jewelry, and crystal embellished ear buds, and rewards the customers who indulge with complimentary hair services to the same value. For example, someone who purchased $40 worth of fashion accessories would be eligible for a free blow-dry, while another client who indulged in $55 worth of style swag would earn a free haircut.

Fringe’s manager and creative director James Duckett says the concept means customers don’t have to pay for their new do.

“We give them the consultation and haircut, and after we bring them over to pick something out for that value,” he explained. “Who doesn’t want a free piece of jewelry?“

The business model is also good for independent fashion designers. Fringe stocks the work of accessories artisans from New York and California, including pieces made by some designers in Brooklyn Heights. The goodies stay at $10 and top $330, but charges can’t be accrued or stored up for future visits. So if you indulge in that 14K gold necklace, you’d better get the works done on the day!

With so many beauty salons offering the same services as their competitors, it’s refreshing to see one making an effort to stand out!

I’m not quite sure when it happened, but it seems these days I’m spending more time admiring Juicy Couture accessories than loathing them. I’m sure it was somewhere around the time that the label discovered there was more materials in this world than velour. Either way, this Pendelton Backpack is another stellar accessory from this formerly gaudy label.

I’ve always associated backpacks with school days, so it’s fitting that this one has a real geek chic vibe. The wool blend finish with its houndstooth plaid makes me think of the vast libraries of Ivy League colleges, while its pink color gives it just a hint of girly sass. This is tempered somewhat by the brown leather trim and that unexpectedly sedate Juicy Couture nameplate. Try as I might, I just can’t get used to such subtle branding from this former wild child!

This is one of the best looking backpacks I’ve seen, so I’m thrilled to see it’s also as smart as it appears. There are plenty of exterior pockets for keeping small items organized, and enough space in the main compartments for textbooks and a packed lunch.

The new school year might be some time away, but at $248 the Pendelton is a great investment for September.

It seems the personnel are deserting Halston faster than rats from a sinking ship. Just days after the news broke that Sarah Jessica Parker was on the out, Women’s Wear Daily has reported that Harvey Weinstein and Marios Schwab have followed suit.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has held an equity stake in Halston for several years, although he’s had little to do with the day to day running of the fashion firm. He did however bring on some stylish friends, including Rachel Zoe and Tamara Mellon, as consultants. Something tells me these fashion figures didn’t do the work out of the goodness of their hearts, so if the rumors of Halston’s financial difficulties are to be believed their involvement probably put the firm under more pressure.

His name isn’t quite as well known, but Halston is sure to feel the loss of creative director and designer Marios Schwab more. Some suggest he may have jumped due to pressure to conform to the “Halston look,” rather than flex his own creative muscles. Either way, it’s a shame to see yet another designer on the Halston scrapheap.

And perhaps most worrying is the implications for Halston. While sales have been on the up, losing so many key players in such a short space of time can do little for consumer confidence. It’ll be interesting to see where the brand goes next after this trying time.

Exotic prints are a hard thing to get right. All too easily they can become tacky imitations of the luxurious skins they’re mimicking. Michael Kors shows his design prowess with this Kingston tote.

The neutral color palette and expertly rendered scales make the Kingston’s finish seem much richer than regular leather. It doesn’t have the alluring texture of genuine python skin, but that’s really the only downside here. It’s not as fragile as the authentic article either, or as expensive.

Even so, on a different bag this skin might not have had quite the same appeal. But the Kingston has a fairly simple design, with large expanses of leather. If not for the snake scales it might have appeared boring. This design though lets the python leather receive the attention it should though, without any distractions.

The Kingston looks like a glamour puss, but it’s really a hard worker. The four slip pouches should satisfy even the most ardent gadget lover, while the zippered pocket gives us a safe space for storing small valuables. The pair of handles works with the longer removable strap to give us a few carrying options. And there are protective feet on the base to keep that snake printed leather looking its best when the Kingston’s set down.

At $548 the Kingston isn’t exactly a cheap bag, but it’s an affordable alternative to those real python totes on the market!

Sometimes there’s a bag that seems like it was custom-designed to appeal to you personally. For me, more often than not, that bag is made by Alexander McQueen. This Military Skull box clutch is a red hot accessory that will appeal to more than just me, though. It’s a little bit of punk mixed with a whole lot of eye-catching cool.

Red bags are always striking. It’s not often that I love them, because so often they rely on the color to carry their cool. Not this bag, though. The red is prominent, but the bag would be cool in any color.

McQueen is really consistent in his box clutch designs. Some people may find this approach boring, but personally, I think the fashion house has just found the perfect simple design to carry its quirky embellishments. The smooth rounded shape shows off the drama of the gold skull clasp and the spiked chain strap.

At $1,545, this bag is sadly out of reach for most of us, but it’s a great investment for anyone with a little extra cash flow.

DKNY has been a little up and down this season. Frankly, that’s kind of an improvement, since before this season I had basically written it off. This leopard print calf hair shoulder bag is a fabulous addition to the line, and I hope it plans on continuing in this fashion.

I love the combination of animal print and calf hair, and I’ve never seen it on a bag this reasonably priced. The calf hair gives the leopard print a realistic look. Unfortunately, the print still looks a little too crisp to actually be real, but the overall impression is dramatic.

I’m a big fan of the subtle foldover design of this bag. The shape is gently rounded, which is accentuated by the rounded corners of the flap. The sleek geometry of the clasp contrasts with the patterning of the bag in a stylish way, and the chain and leather strap is a great touch that lends the bag an air of slight edginess.

The print on this bag isn’t perfect, and I’d prefer it if the nap were longer on the calf hair, but for $225 this bag is a truly excellent buy and its style rivals that of some of the higher end labels.
