Levi’s and Filson are continuing to collaborate by expanding their joint fashion items this fall. The new Levi’s Workwear by Filson collection features a selection of jackets, a cap, tin oil pants, a Western shirt, a hunter’s vest, and a pair of tote bags

One tote is made entirely from dark blue denim and accentuated with blue leather straps, while the other is made from a mix of that blue denim and khaki twill. As with all the new Levi’s Workwear by Filson products, they were crafted at C.C. Filson’s Seattle factory. Both designs are slightly too expensive at $118, which is more than I’d expect to pay for bags with these materials, but we’re used to paying a premium for limited edition lines.

Levi’s first teamed up with Filson in 2010, when they created a collection of heritage items celebrating the history of both iconic brands. The 2011 range continues this tradition with its rugged fabrics and high quality design guaranteeing the items will only endure with age. As if to prove a point, the labels sell all these new items with a lifetime guarantee. I appreciate it when companies stand behind their products like this, don’t you?

McKlein combines timeless good looks with modern features for this elegant Harrison Laptop Briefcase.

While it might not be the most exciting business bag around, there’s no denying the beauty of this conservative laptop bag. You also needn’t be a corporate bigwig to own it, as this McKlein briefcase is just $160. That’s not exactly small change, but very reasonable for a business bag of such quality.

Summer may be but a distant memory, but this casual Max New York Washington clutch is keeping the season alive with its easy, breezy style.

Natural toned woven raffia always looks relaxed, but it’s made a bit more versatile with the addition of patent leather trim. In bright white it’s very summery, but it also adds an understated elegance to the design.

The Washington is the kind of purse that could easily work during the day or on a casual night out, so I’m glad to see it’s got the features to match. Its dimensions are generous, and it has plenty of pockets inside and out offering a place for all your party essentials. I also particularly like the zebra printed lining, which really pops against the more neutral exterior.

The only disappointment is the cut-out handle. While it’s got a great retro look, it’s not practical to use for any period of time, particularly if the Washington is full.

Given its day to night versatility this Maxx New York clutch is well priced at $155.

Micahel Kors has never been one of my most favorite designers,  but it seems like he’s been working hard to change people’s minds these past few seasons. The MICHAEL line, in particular, has been churning out fashion forward, affordable accessories that are worth keeping an eye on.

The leopard print on this bag is spectacular, and there are few combinations that I like better than calf hair and animal print. Unfortunately, the hair on this material is a bit short, and a lot of the luxurious appeal of calf hair seems to have been trimmed along with the length.

The overall look of the bag, however, is really solid. The pouch shape is very of-the-moment, as is the cool cross-body styling. The leather trim is a great detail, as is the durable front strap and clasp design. I don’t care much for the hanging logo tag, but it’s easily removed.

The very reasonable $330 price tag makes it easy to overlook minute details when the bag has such a great look.

Kim Kardashian’s ShoeDazzle website has created a new Powerful Pink range to raise funds for high profile breast cancer charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The site has been creating pink fashion items for the cause every year since 2009.

ShoeDazzle’s chief operating officer Deborah Benton said the shopping site wanted to do its bit as “breast cancer affects so many women around the globe.” She added that the Powerful Pink collection was designed with women of different ages and tastes in mind, although probably only girly girls will want to wear items that are honeysuckle pink!

The Powerful Pink range features the Stephanie pumps and Beth booties, named after ShoeDazzle clients who’ve survived breast cancer, a pair of casual sneakers, a zebra printed scarf, and the convertible clutch purse pictured.

The Powerful Pink range will hit the ShoeDazzle website on October 1 to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 10% of sales from the line will reach Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It’s disappointing that the donation is so small, but I suppose we shouldn’t really criticize any company that gives. Will you be digging deep to support ShoeDazzle’s efforts, or would you prefer to make a direct donation to the charity?

Wallets are often regarded as the poor cousin of handbags, a less stylish and more practical alternative to leather arm candy. Matt & Nat reject this notion with the Loren, a purse that deserves its time in the spotlight.

Frankly I’d be reluctant to hide this purse away. With its stylish speckled finish and edgy zip accent asymmetrical flap it’s a thoroughly modern creature. Of course it’s made from synthetic, or vegan leather as Matt & Nat prefer to call it, but as it’s a high quality manmade material only serious fashion snobs are likely to mind.

It looks the business, but the Loren’s also very practical. While it’s slim there’s a space for everything, with a zippered pocket for change on the back and a bill compartment, pen loop, and a handful of card slots inside. I think most women will want more card slots than the ones provided, but this is really my only quibble.

At $90 we’d hardly call this wallet a bargain, particularly considering that it’s made from synthetic, but its unique good looks make it a tempting proposition nonetheless.

New research shows women get a greater buzz buying handbags than they do when indulging in any other item. The study by shopping site Saveme4later.com shows that a new purse made women happier than new shoes, a summer dress, and tickets to see a favorite band. One in four women ranked handbags as their top purchase choice.

Company spokesperson Dermot Dennehy said that while everyone knows women love to shop, he found it “interesting to see what items women get the most pleasure from buying.”

Also interesting was the part of the research which discussed how much thought when into a purchase. Women hemmed and hawed before buying a new winter coat, but snapped up underwear with merely a second thought.

However the days where women regularly shopped on impulse are long gone. It seems that female shoppers have learned their lessons well after the financial crisis, with 81% admitted they’re more careful with their money now than they were five years ago. While that likely means that women are spending less, they’re also feeling a much greater sense of gratification when they do indulge.

A real life Prince Charming is hard to find, but this Mary Frances purse with the same name is just as dependable, and as delightful!

This cute purse shows the prince in frog mode. I’m not sure any amount of kissing will convert this sweet beaded amphibian into a real life handsome prince, but I suppose it couldn’t hurt to try! Even if he doesn’t become your soul mate, he looks gorgeous sitting there amongst the flowers and lily pads.

Most often designers spend all their time on the exterior of their bags and forget about the little things. But not Mary Frances, who’s created a stunning beaded strap for her froggy accessory. This pretty handle looks much lovelier than the traditional silver chains most clutches come with, and it also makes this purse quite practical.

Storage space is severely limited though, so I hope you’re skilled at packing. It’ll be tricky to even fit the essentials inside it. However, something tells me anyone attracted to a bag like this doesn’t care about practicality!

$278 might seem like a lot to spend on such a novelty item, but when we consider the work that’s gone into it it’s not a bad price at all.

No your eyes aren’t deceiving you; handbags are getting smaller.

New York based fashion consultant said that the modern woman “doesn’t want to look like she’s lugging around her entire office anymore.” Instead girls are opting for smaller purses that make them look “more carefree.”

Thumbing through the pages of Vogue‘s September issue shows glossy ads for Prada, Dior, and Gucci, all with small bags front and center. Louis Vuitton’s popular Lockit purse has been superseded by a new Lockit BB model, which is more than a third smaller than the original. Mid-sized bags were also all the range at the recent New York Fashion Week.

The accessories shift mirrors the general fashion movement towards more delicate, ladylike designs. We’re still taking our cues from Mad Men, a series set in a time where women didn’t have to worry about lugging around laptops or cell phones.

It’s good news for handbag makers who are expected to enjoy increased sales as women downsize. The International Council of Shopping Centers predicts that sales of luxury purses will rise around 7.5% over the holiday period, up from 6.7% last year. It’s good news for consumers too, who don’t need to spend as much on a smaller bag they would on a much larger one. And that’s as good a reason as any to indulge in the new trend, don’t you think?

Small Handbags on eBay

Marni’s created a show-stopping, but ultimately uninspiring, accessory with this sequined pouch.

It’s impossible to dislike a purse that’s covered in bright red sequins. The shiny discs are just so fun, catching the light and upping the glam factor. But I feel the sequins are doing all the work, while Marni’s having a rest. The fashion house has gotten lazy frankly, and for this price I’m not happy to accept it.

This is a very simple pouch, both inside and out. There’s absolutely nothing hiding away inside, no organizational pockets and no shoulder strap. Since we’re forced to hold it in our hands all the time, we risk knocking off those sequins. And once you lose one sequin, more are likely to follow it. Then suddenly your pretty sparkly pouch is looking very second-hand.

Treat it carefully though and this purse will really impress. Whether it’s impressive enough to warrant the $195 Marni is asking is another issue. Personally I think that’s far too much to pay for such lazy design.
