Its name is a bit confusing, because there doesn’t seem to be anything bubbly about this bag. Its demeanor is as smooth as its gently pebbled leather. Its teak colored leather is also reserved, and even its delicate name plate is sedate. But just because it’s not as vivacious as we might expect, it doesn’t mean we should ignore this Bubble bag.

This is the kind of shoulder bag we’ll drag out season after season. Its clean flap-over design will never fall out of fashion, and it’s practical to boot. The interior is on the small side, but with a zippered pocket and pair of elasticized pouches it’s easy to keep the space organized. The intricate chain strap is also lovely, with a leather insert in the center to cushion our shoulder.

$128 is very reasonable for any leather shoulder bag, but when it’s as timeless as this one it’s a bargain. You’ll get plenty of wear for relatively little money here.

Socialite Tamara Ecclestone ensures us that her £200, 000 handbag and £70, 000 footwear collections aren’t simply frivolous indulgences; they’re actually shrewd investments.

“I have no idea how much it all cost, but the Hermes bags are an investment,” she told The Daily Mail. “If I auctioned them tomorrow I’d get all my money back, if not more.“

The eldest daughter of motor racing mogul Bernie Ecclestone also told the British newspaper she hoped a new documentary would clear up the “misconceptions” that she’s a “party princess” with more money than sense. Admitting you’ve got no idea of the cost of your exorbitant handbag collection probably isn’t a good way to bust that myth.

However she insists that she does resist the temptation to indulge in the most expensive accessories. While she’d love to own the £70, 000 two-toned crocodile Hermes Himalayan bag Victoria Beckham’s been spotted with, she said she’d leave it on the shelf. And she’s not above haggling to get the best price.

“God, my parents love a deal. They still ask for discounts and I do, too,” she said. “Most of the time if you ask people you will get a discount and that makes you feel better.“

No matter what she says, I’m not buying the notion that Tamara Ecclestone is just an ordinary girl at heart, are you?

While it lacks the fashion forward accents that style conscious women look for, there’s a certain charm to the design. I really like the look of the bright blue nylon against the tan leather accents. The olive alternative is a bit drab for my tastes, but I appreciate Ellington’s offered us two such distinctive looks.

But really the Mia’s beauty is about practicality rather than polish. It has plenty of pockets inside and out, and a well designed interior compartment. This space features large and small slip pockets, a zippered pouch, and a convenient clip for keys. While the canvas strap doesn’t look very luxurious, it’s tough as nails. I also appreciate its adjustability, which allows us to take the Mia from a shoulder bag to a cross-body in an instant.

I thought the splashes of real goat leather might have sent the Mia’s price sky high but it’s still very affordable at $74. It won’t turn a lot of heads, but its clever design should make it a wardrobe staple for years to come.

Chanel has confirmed the rumors that Alice Dellal will be its next advertising face. The London based socialite, model, and drummer will front commercials for Chanel’s Boy handbag collection.

A Chanel spokesperson said that Karl Lagerfeld developed “a crush on this unique, charismatic young lady” when he spotted her on a photo shoot several months ago. With her nose ring and half-shaved head, Chanel also stated that Dellal is “the perfect incarnation of all that is unique about the Boy Chanel handbag collection, which strives [to be] far from conformist notions of femininity.”

Chanel has tempted us with a behind-the-scenes photograph, which shows Lagerfeld behind the camera and Dellal perched on an antique desk. She’s wearing a much girlier Chanel ensemble than I envisaged, and carrying one of the steely gray Boy bags. We’ll get to see the finished product in our favorite fashion magazines next March.

While the cream colored clothes and pearl barrette are a bit more staid than I imagined, I’m still excited at the potential of this advertising campaign. For so long Chanel has been fairly prim and proper, so it’s thrilling to see the fashion house shaking things up with more recent commercial choices. What do you think of Chanel’s latest model?

Elie Tahari’s taken a chic and simple approach to design with the Emory cross-body bag.

The basic fold-over design is one we’ve all seen before, but I appreciate Elie Tahari’s execution here. The leather is thick and plush, so the shape has a bit more volume than the average. The crackled finish to the golden skin also gives it an antique, old world charm. Metallic leathers often appear too brash and glitzy, but the interesting treatment here helps it avoid that trap. I also really love the cross-body strap, which is a little more elaborate and ornate than a stock standard chain.

The Emory is a shade larger than your average evening bag, so it could definitely work during the day if you know how to travel light. The main compartment features a zippered pocket for holding small change, so you could even leave your wallet at home.

The Emory’s $348 price tag isn’t unreasonable for such a well-made bag, but I’m still unconvinced. Despite the weathered golden finish, it’s a bit pedestrian for my tastes. Has it won you over?

Her name might not be as big, but Revson was regarded as one of the most stylish women of the 60s and 70s. She was the third wife of Revlon founder Charles Revson, a position which secured her a swag of designer items. In fact, Hermes even named a bag in her honor! Lyn Revson passed away this June at 80 years of age, and her estate is keen to move those big ticket bags, clothes, and jewelry. What I like most is that this isn’t an auction, but a regular consignment sale. We know what we’re going to pay, and we won’t get engaged in a heated bidding war. It’s so easy to overspend when that happens! Of course that also means that once the items are sold, they’re gone for good, so we can’t hesitate to start shopping. Items start at a couple of hundred dollars and top around $6000 for the rare Hermes and Gucci purses.

Shocking pink leather helps this Mallory Satchel from Elaine Turner stand out in a crowd.

That bright raspberry hue is probably what will make you love or loathe the Mallory. It’s so distinctive that it’s impossible to sit on the fence about it. I love the idea of pairing the Mallory with a basic black or neutral ensemble, but I’m sure plenty of people are reaching for their shades.

If you do love the color you’ll appreciate that Elaine Turner doesn’t use it alone to sell the Mallory. While its gently pleated body is simple, the loosely woven straps are really something. Its main compartment is spacious but not overwhelming, with an array of leather trimmed pockets. The red lining clashes a bit with the pink exterior, but as it’s tucked away no one else need know.

No matter how much you love it, the Mallory is probably too loud to become your everyday bag. Thankfully though, its $325 tag makes it affordable for a good quality leather bag. For that price we needn’t feel too guilty about only using it occasionally!

Counterfeit designer handbags are so yesterday. In China they’re going nuts for fake designer shopping bags.

I’m not talking about those lovely leather handbags we use to hit the mall. Instead it seems the Chinese are gaga for the paper bags stamped with designer logos, the ones ordinarily handed to customers with their designer purchases.

Browsing around leading Chinese shopping site Taobao.com reveals paper shopping bags bearing the Hermes, Chanel, and Burberry logos for between 5 and 40 yuan, or 78c to $6.28US.

Taobao.com vendor Wang Xuesheng says that initially the shoppers were popular amongst traders of counterfeit handbags, who no doubt packaged them with their replica merchandise. However, recently the bags have become popular amongst independent who appear unfazed that the shoppers are fakes.

“Most people buy the bags only for the logo,” he explained. “In fact, if you take a close look at the bag, you will easily discover that the material is different from authentic ones.“

Apparently people are buying them as an alternative to regular totes, and to hold gifts for friends. I can only imagine the disappointment of those friends when they find there’s no designer stash inside the bag!

Knocking off designer shoppers sounds like a nice way to make a few bucks, but Mo Daiqing, a senior analyst with the China E-commerce Research Center reminds would-be counterfeiters that selling fake paper bags is still infringing copyright.

This is one of the weirder trends I’ve heard. Can you imagine investing in a designer paper bag, whether it’s fake or not?

Ed Hardy’s back to his self-promoting best with this Tina hobo.

It’s got the slouchy silhouette we expect to see on a hobo, but that’s where the similarities end. The bohemian vibe typical of the style has been stripped away and replaced with a much brasher attitude. I can’t say I’m enamored by the look, but the metallic finish and bold logos are very Ed Hardy. If you’re a fan you’ll probably eat them up, and if you’re not this bag won’t change your mind.

I can stomach the logos, the golden finish, and even the too shiny surface. But the tassel accents and handles take things a step too far. These plastic looking elements make a cheap bag look even cheaper. At $140 I wasn’t exactly expecting high-end design, but I’ve seen many handbags appearing much more sophisticated at this price point.

The best thing I can say about the Tina hobo is that it’s practical. Not especially so, mind you, but it has enough pockets to keep its generously sized interior organized. There’s also a magnetic snap which keeps our possessions safe enough. Not as safe as a zipper would have, but it does the trick.

Frankly when commenting on adequate design features is the best you can say about a bag, you’re probably not going to spend money on it. But I’ve never been an Ed Hardy fan. If you are I’m sure you’ll find a lot more to like!

You can wax lyrical about your white Christmases, but this gloomy weather is beginning to grate on me. I can’t boost the temperature, but I can fantasize about being somewhere warmer when I’m looking at this Batik Leaf Bucket Tote from Echo.

This tote bag’s relaxed shape and bright batik pattern scream summer. It’s the sort of bag that begs to be filled with fluffy beach towels, flip flops, and trashy romance novels. Its soft cotton body makes it very expandable, so it can handle all your beach stash and then some more.

I really like this batik print, but I also appreciate it’s not our only option. If we begin to tire of it we can simply turn it inside out! In this new mode the tiny diamonds on the handles become the dominant design. It’s almost like we’re getting two bags in one, which is virtually unheard of at this price.

No one wants to fuss in summer, so I was thrilled to see this tote’s machine washable. That easy care quality makes sure we don’t miss our favorite leathers too much.

As you can probably guess, no $58 tote will ever be perfect. Its handles aren’t quite as sturdy as Echo claims, and the two fabric ties don’t really make the tote a lot more secure. We also probably deserve more than the single zippered pocket inside. Even with those little niggles though, this tote represents great value.
