Fendi Chameleon Shoulder Bag | Retro Black Colorblocked Leather Purse

Posted on: Dec 21

Fendi Chameleon Shoulder BagI can’t imagine this bag ever blending into the background like the reptile that shares its name. Meet the surprisingly eye-catching Fendi Chameleon.

Fendi’s given a colorful twist to the basic black shoulder bag. This messenger style purse features white side panels, a fuchsia shoulder strap, and a pop of teal underneath its flap. The handbag’s colors clash together to create a fun retro look. It won’t suit everybody, but as a child of the 80s I’m relishing this blast from the past.

The Chameleon doesn’t go beyond the call of duty, but it does offer just what we’d expect of a luxury handbag. Its metal clasp is an elegant way to brand the bag and keep your precious cargo secure. Open it up to reveal the fully lined interior. There’s just a single pocket inside, but that’s probably all you need to stay organized.

Fendi bags never come cheaply, and at $1125 the Chameleon is no exception. However its easy blend of timeless design and trend conscious features makes this a better buy than most.

Felix Rey Golden Child Diaper Bag | Black Quilted Nylon Baby Handbag

Posted on: Dec 20

Felix Rey Golden Child Diaper BagFelix Rey’s accessories have been a bit silly of late. Those smiling faces, cockatoos, and great big bows might have seemed whimsical at first, but all too quickly the line started to feel like a joke. Thankfully Felix Rey’s toned things down a bit with this Golden Child Diaper Bag.

This is a great example of the new breed of diaper bags. Rather than being plastered with cutesy prints, it’s reserved and sophisticated, the kind of accessory you could happily carry once your little ones have grown.

It’s made with kids in mind though. The quilted nylon body might not be as luxurious as leather, but it’s much easier to keep clean. It clearly means business too, with a pair of easy access bottle pockets on the outside, an array of pockets inside, and a changing pad for those diaper emergencies.

We also get a choice of carrying straps. The short ones are long enough to sling over your shoulder, while the detachable one allows you to wear the Golden Child across your body. Both options keep your hands free, so they can take care of all that mommy stuff.

While the styling is essentially demure, Felix Rey clearly couldn’t resist adding some of his signature flair. A golden pacifier charm makes this chic tote feel a bit more fun.

Felix Rey’s created a great diaper bag here, but at $375 it’s probably too expensive for one made of nylon. You’ll likely find a similar bag for much less, even if it doesn’t have the same designer pedigree.

Bally’s New Trainspotting Men’s Line | Capsule Collection of Leather Bags & Shoes

Posted on: Dec 20

Bally Trainspotting Collection

All too often the lads get neglected in the world of fashion, so it’s exciting to see Swiss fashion house Bally has created an exclusive capsule collection especially for the boys. The new line was created for its travel retail partner DFS Galleria, and will be available exclusively in selected stores.

Keen fashion fans will notice the line celebrates Bally’s popular Trainspotting theme. It features three travel bags and a pair of red leather sneakers, all decorated with Bally’s signature black and white stripe. The items were crafted from high quality calf leathers and designed with modern jetsetters in mind.

Those shoes are pretty snazzy, but you know we’re most interested in the bags. Fashion-conscious lads can choose between the slender cross-body Taisten, the messenger style Triar, and the practical reporter bag called the Tabelio. I think it might look like overkill to pair the bags with the Freenew shoes, but Bally insists the combination was designed “to exude authentic urban style.”

Look for the limited edition Bally Trainspotting collection in selected DFS Gallerias in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia, and Hawaii. Can you imagine a man in your life slinging one of these styling new Bally bags over his shoulder?

Evans Sparkle Clutch Bag | Budget Black Slouchy Party Purse

Posted on: Dec 20

Evans Sparkle ClutchA great festive party purse needn’t put you in a financial hole. If you’re feeling skint this Christmas season it’s worth indulging in this Sparkle Clutch Bag.

It costs just £18 but its sparkly surface makes it appear a lot richer. The finish is dazzling, but don’t let the glitz scare you. Its basic black material actually makes it quite versatile.

The Sparkle’s generous dimensions also aid that versatility. We get more space inside than the average evening bag, so if we know how to pack it we could probably use it during the daylight hours. Can’t you just imagine how this purse would liven up an ordinary jeans and tee ensemble?

If you are using it during the day I’d make use of the chain strap. It’s just your stock standard silver chain, but it’ll come in handy when you’re on the go.

The Sparkle’s not the perfect evening purse. Its polyester material is a bit cheap, and so’s the interior lining. The zip also feels a bit flimsy, and the interior is as basic as they come. But the Sparkle looks the part and has the features that count, and for this money that’s really all we can ask for.

First Look at Karl Lagerfeld Line | New Affordable Collection for Net-A-Porter

Posted on: Dec 20

Karl by Karl Lagerfeld OutfitChanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has offered us a sneak peek at the affordable goodies we can expect from his Karl by Karl Lagerfeld line. From the looks of the first photos the collection will be dominated by the black colors and clean lines Lagerfeld himself favors.

The range promises to be comprehensive, with 70 different pieces available exclusively through online shopping destination Net-A-Porter. The cheapest item will be a $50 canvas bag decorated with the image of Lagerfeld’s face, but we can expect to pay in excess of $1000 for some of the leather goodies.

I might be judging prematurely, but I’m not too fussed on the items I’ve seen thus far. I know Lagerfeld was working within a tighter budget than he’s used to, but pizzazz doesn’t cost a cent. Surely he could have injected some of his signature flair into these items. I know that they’re classic and timeless, but I’m struggling to care. I only hope Lagerfeld is waiting to surprise us with some of the real gold once the collection is officially launched.

The Karl by Karl Lagerfeld collection will hit Net-A-Porter on January 25. Will it inspire you to whip out your credit card, or are you as bored with the new brand as I am?

Etienne Aigner Tiffany Tote | Brown Croc-Embossed Leather Handbag

Posted on: Dec 20

Etienne Aigner Tiffany ToteEtienne Aigner gives the classic tote a hint of luxury with the Tiffany.

The conservative label’s taken a traditional box shape and made it feel a little richer with some convincing crocodile embossing. The scales really are well done, which makes me wonder why I’m less than impressed.

Something about the styling makes it feel more grandma than uptown girl. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something definitely screams old, and not in a hip vintage way. Perhaps it’s the reinforced corners, which while practical seem a bit fussy. The brushed antique hardware also doesn’t help the Tiffany’s cause. Etienne Aigner was on the right path with the Tiffany, but it seems to have taken a left turn somewhere along the way.

At least the interior does everything we could hope for. A large zippered compartment divides the generously sized space into three user-friendly sections. The side walls also have their fair share of pockets to make organization easy.

Even discussing the practicalities of this bag feels pedestrian though. It’s the sort of thing our mothers would care about, isn’t it? It might make sound sense to spend $199 on a bag as smart as the Tiffany, but I’d rather blow that on a purse more fashion forward, wouldn’t you?

More Features of This Etienne Aigner Croc-Embossed Tote

  • Slide pocket on the back
  • A detachable key fob
  • Dual handles with an 8.5 inch drop
  • Measures 5 x 15.5 x 10.8 inches

Emilio Pucci Python Box Clutch | Neon Orange Snakeskin Purse

Posted on: Dec 19

Emilio Pucci Python Box ClutchYou’ll stand out in any crowd carrying this Python Box Clutch from Emilio Pucci.

I’m sure you’ll either love or loathe the loud neon orange snakeskin, but I’m besotted by this bold choice. Pucci handles the shocking hue beautifully, keeping the details to a minimum and the shape simple. The scaly finish is stunning, and finished well with soft lamb leather trim. The simple silver clasp is like a chic cherry on top.

Storage space is compromised by the small interior, but that’s par for the course with evening accessories. Its printed silk satin lining makes the space feel a bit more luxurious. There isn’t a shoulder strap tucked away in there, but the clutch’s ergonomic design means we don’t miss it too much.

As is always the case with exotic leather purses, this Emilio Pucci clutch will cost us a pretty penny. In fact it’s a whopping $1750. I might just be dazzled by the color, but that doesn’t seem exorbitant for such an exciting evening purse. Pair it with a printed cocktail dress or a tamer neutral ensemble and wait for the compliments to roll in!

Louis Vuitton Unveils Girly Spring Advertisement | Daria Strokous & Kari Nescher Star in New Ad

Posted on: Dec 19

Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 Advertisement

Sugar and spice and all things nice dominate Louis Vuitton’s new spring 2012 advertising campaign.

The pastel color palette and ultra-feminine styling make this one of the prettiest advertisements I’ve seen in some time. I thought nothing could beat the puppies we saw last season, but the picture perfect ice cream sundaes book-ending Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher might just do it.

Steven Meisel was behind the camera to capture Louis Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs’ vision.

It is all very soft and very sweet, yet at the same time very bold and very graphic,” Jacobs told Women’s Wear Daily.

In fact, all that sugariness is almost enough to give you a toothache! I think the handbags save the commercials from being too saccharine though. Their pale colors suit the overall aesthetic of the image, but they’re blissfully free of flowers, ruffles, sequins, or other girly accents. I’m not saying these are my favorite Louis Vuitton bags, but they effectively temper all of the fluff we see in the commercials.

We’ll see them in our favorite fashion magazines next February. Do you like Louis Vuitton’s ultra-girly spring campaign, or would you prefer to see the fashion house offering a bit more edge?

Emilie Sloan Sonja Satchel | Convertible Pink Floral Coated Plainweave Handbag

Posted on: Dec 19

Emilie Sloan Sonja SatchelEmilie Sloan serves up another cute and practical accessory with this Sonja satchel.

I’m smitten by this satchel’s domed shape, and the pop of the patent leatherette lime trim. The shiny green piping and handles look gorgeous against the delicate Asian inspired floral fabric.

The midsized interior is well appointed with a large zippered pocket, a pair of gadget pouches, and a handy key fob. There’s also a synthetic trimmed pocket on the back for the items we want at hand. I especially appreciate the flat platform base, which makes the Sonja easy to pack and unpack.

The rolled handles look the part, but they’re too short for easy carrying once the satchel is full. Happily though, Emilie Sloan also offers a much longer strap which takes the Sonja from a satchel to a cross-body bag in an instant.

The materials are far from high class, so there’s an element of getting what we pay for here. However at $73, we don’t have to pay a lot for the privilege of carrying it. The Sonja’s sweet looks and that low bottom line make it a bit of a bargain in my eyes.

More Features of This Emilie Sloan Convertible Satchel

  • Zip top closure
  • Fully lined interior
  • Dual handles with a 4 inch drop
  • A detachable strap with a 22 inch drop
  • Measures 4.5 x 13.5 x 10 inches

Bollydoll Makes Bags with Yak Pak | Amrita Sen Collaborates with Accessory Network on Handbags & Scarves

Posted on: Dec 19

Bollydoll Yak Pak ToteBollydoll, the Bollywood inspired fashion house created by Indian singer and fashion designer Amrita Sen, has teamed up with Accessory Network for a colorful new accessories line.

The accessories feature Bollydoll’s key characters, Bolly and Sheena. The princesses live in a magical world with teal turtles, playful cows, smiling suns and moons, and of course, dancing dolls.

The range will make its debut in February next year. Accessory Network’s Yak Pak brand will help Bollydoll release the handbags through Shop NBC. The collaborative bag line features tote and cross-body purses, hobos with drawstring closures, small pouches, and cosmetics cases in eight different patterns. The capsule collection is affordable with prices ranging from $20 to $89.

Yak Pak founder Stephen Holt said the partnership has been “an exciting way to associate the Yak Pak brand with not only a successful musician but also a fine artist who is helping to make Indian inspired fashion a mainstream trend in the US market.

Later in 2012 scarves will join the handbags on the market. It’s believed these will be produced in conjunction with one of Accessory Network’s other labels. Amrita Sen will release 20 different prints in square and rectangular shapes. The square scarves are the most affordable option at $98; you’ll pay $125 for the oblong designs.

Tribal designs have dominated fashion for some time, so why not Indian ones? Do you think American audiences will embrace the Bollydoll bags?
