Paul Smith helps us gear up for summer vacations with this Printed Travel Pouch.

Usually we can rely on Paul Smith for cleverness, but he’s as subtle as a sledgehammer here. We get it; this is a travel pouch. We probably could have figured that out without the map, compass, and ticket stub illustrations pushing the point. I might not mind the graphics as much if they didn’t look like a collection of items from my grandfather’s attic. I’m not used to such stuffiness from Paul Smith.

It’s also disappointing that Paul Smith relies on the print, and doesn’t provide what we look for in a travel pouch. It’s really basic, without any compartments to organize our passports, boarding passes, or traveler’s checks. That might make it versatile if it weren’t for that horrible travel print. You’re hardly going to use such a travel-themed pouch as a cosmetics purse, are you?

The price only adds insult to injury. For $125 it’s far too expensive for such a simple, lackluster purse, no matter which designer name is attached.

Pacsafe has kept our personal possessions safe with its anti-theft purses for years. And now with its Blocking Bi-Fold wallet, it’s protecting our personal information.

It looks like such a simple wallet, but it’s surprisingly high tech. It’s made from a clever material which blocks RFID data. This is the personal information contained in the microchips we find in our credit cards, passports, and other forms of identification. Ordinarily it’s all too easy for this sensitive data to fall into the wrong hands!

That high-tech fabric is the Blocking Bi-Fold’s biggest draw card, but it also does a decent job of organizing our finances. Its interior has five credit card slots and a transparent window for ID, and there’s a coin pouch on the outside. Most serious shopaholics will crave more credit slots, but perhaps it’s a good incentive to scale back!

Most of us would pay a substantial amount to keep our sensitive details away from hackers and identity thieves, so I’m pleasantly surprised by this wallet’s price. At $29.99 it seems a small amount to pay for such peace of mind.

Tacky British model Katie “Jordan” Price has showcased her tacky range of Day 22 handbags with an equally tacky Twitter photo.

The former page three girl posted the snap which showed her lazing about seductively near the purses. With her laying on top of a number of accessories it’s hard to make them out, but I think I’ve seen enough to judge. These colorful handbags, created in junction with Day 22 designer Lamis Khamis, look very sparkly, very childish, and very cheap. I can’t imagine anyone out of their teens warming to all that leopard print, sequins, and glitter.

Except of course, the 33-year-old Miss Price. She told her Twitter followers that she’s “loving” the collection, which will hit stores in summer. In a recent interview she also said she’s “really enjoyed developing this brand,” which she launched with Khamis last February.

Ironically enough, I’m not seeing any development in these designs. It seems like Miss Price’s style stopped at around 13. That’s only cute up to a point; as she approaches her mid-30s it’s starting to look tragic.

Sadly this isn’t the last we’ll see of Day 22. Apparently Price gave the range its name as she plans to add new pieces to the collection on the 22nd of each month. It sounds like we’ve got a lot of Katie Price’s apparel items, handbags, shoes, and sunglasses to look forward to. God help us all.

A pop of pink helps this Catenab clutch from Paco Mena stand out from the pack.

At its heart this is a very traditional, very safe clutch. Its black satin body is conservative and classic, and its flap-over style tried and tested. But it’s that pretty pink bow that really brings it alive. It’s the sort of feature that will make girls swoon, or turn up their nose. Personally I fall into the former camp, but I appreciate such a feminine accent won’t appeal to everyone.

I admit that the jeweled flower at the bow’s center has taken things a step too far. It’s pretty gaudy, and I think the Catenab could have done without it. However it does dress the purse up and make it perfect for high-class functions and red carpets.

It’s not often that we get a purse that would suit such sophisticated occasions for just $71. I won’t pretend that it can go toe-to-toe with the Judith Leibers of the world, but it’s an affordable accessory for those special nights out.

Belt business Roma has expanded its modern leather accessories range to include technology cases and decorative cuffs. The stylish new additions have been released under Roma’s house brand WCM, which is a sector of Roma Industries, LLC.

The new tech cases help fashionistas carry their iPads and Kindle e-readers in style. The one pictured is expertly crafted from zebra printed hair-calf accented with black leather trim, but there are a range of finishes on offer. The illustrated case costs $85, but prices vary according to the accessory’s skin and size.

The same goes for the cuffs collection, which features metallic leather, exotic snake stingray, and crocodile embossed skins, watercolor patterned leather, glossy patent leather, and soft suede. The modern accessories are then finished with gleaming metal buckles, hinges, and turn-lock clasps. The cheapest will cost $60, while the most expensive will set you back $98.

I’m impressed with what we see here, but I also want more. Hopefully this is the start of several new accessories additions to the Roma and WCM stable. I’d love to see more tech cases, including laptop slips and cell phone pouches, as well as regular day bags and evening clutches added to the mix.

If you struggle to fit the items you call essentials into your everyday handbag, meet your knight in shining armor. This Knight Tote from Oryany Handbags is a whole lot of purse!

There’s no getting around it; this tote is enormous. Those sizable dimensions will either be its greatest asset or the feature that turns you off. The quintet of interior pockets and the selection of straps help the Knight wear its weight well, but it’ll still feel bulky to most girls.

You can’t hide a bag like this away, so Oryany Handbags doesn’t even try. In fact, it’s made it yellow. It’s not a bright canary shade or a neon hue, but the goldfish color will still stand out in a sea of neutrals.

It seems like nitpicking to suggest that a bag with five pockets needs more, but some extras wouldn’t have gone astray. With some clever design work Oryany could easily have converted those zipper accents to usable compartments. On a purse this size, we need all the organizational assistance we can get.

We’re getting a lot of tote for our money, so $425 doesn’t seem like a lot to spend on the Knight. It won’t suit everyone, but pack rats will see real value here.

Oroton reminds us that the simplest things in life are often the best with this Anouk clutch.

This purse is the picture of retro refinement, with its clean curved lines and bold orange color. It’s also available in more conservative dark ivy green and a beige-gray blend that Oroton calls greige, but I appreciate the pop of this more vibrant hue. Perhaps all this gray weather is getting me down, but I love the thought of pairing it with a heavy neutral winter ensemble. And then it’d hit just the right tropical note once summer rolls around.

The fashion world has been moving towards more subtle branding, but Oroton has always been a pioneer. Its signature O is all fashion fans in its native Australia need to spot an Oroton purse. Its placement in the corner of the clutch gives the Anouk an asymmetrical edginess that’s so appealing.

The Anouk has a lovely ergonomic shape, but we don’t need to spend our time carrying it. A chain is tucked away inside, ready to help us out when we feel like traveling hands-free. I don’t think the Anouk has quite the same punch in this mode, but the strap does give the purse a greater day to night appeal.

That’s a good thing too, because at $395AUD the Anouk isn’t cheap. With the Aussie dollar surging past the Greenback it represents a real investment, but if you can rock it before five I’m sure you’ll see value.

It’s been some time coming, but Mark Cross Company bags will finally be back in stores.

The accessories from the American heritage label were favorites of Cole Porter, Ernest Hemmingway, and F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. However when the company folded in 1997 it seemed it would become the stuff of fashion legend. Enter new chief executive officer and president Neal J. Fox, who snapped up the trademark and resuscitated the business.

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing though. The label’s new bags were scheduled to hit Saks Fifth Avenue in an exclusive deal in early December. However it seems that deal fell through, as now they’re slated to arrive exclusively in Barneys boutiques on January 30.

I love the way Mark Cross’ Collection 1 pays homage to the past, with its retro silhouettes and classic hues. The Grace bags pictured are trunk style accessories which recall the moment in Rear Window when Grace Kelly proudly demonstrated to Jimmy Stewart how much her Mark Cross case could hold. There’s also the Madison Mini, a small purse fashioned after the label’s vintage doctor bags, and the sleek Scottie satchel.

Its name suggests O’Neill’s been admiring the style of South America’s native tribes, but you wouldn’t know it to look at the Mayan Wallet!

This spotted wallet has barely a hint of Mayan influences. I suppose O’Neill might have had the ancient people in mind when it created its braided wrist strap, but it seems a tenuous link. And I’ve never seen an ancient Mayan artifact covered in large black spots!

Wherever the design came from, it doesn’t appear well thought out. I don’t mind the spots, but the earthy brown accents don’t really gel with the pattern. The contrasting details will attract attention, but I’m pretty sure those stares won’t be for the right reasons.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be too hard on the Mayan. It’s a wallet after all, so it’ll probably spend most of its life inside a larger handbag. However the wrist strap invites us to show the Mayan off, so I think O’Neill should have paid more attention to its looks.

It seems petty to be too critical of any purse costing just $28 though. For that price we get a wallet with a decent amount of organizational features and a fun spotted finish. It sounds like a decent deal to me!
