I’d like to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month here on Señora Cartera by featuring the absolutely stunning Kylie Minogue. I love Kylie and not just from the “Can’t Get You Outta My Head” days. Nope, I love her from the “Locomotion” days (google it if you’re too young to remember).

This is a woman who always has a smile on her face. She has attributed her upbeat attitude on life for helping her cope with breast cancer. This sassy survivor is a shining example to all women that life is worth fighting for and giving up is not an option.

I’m always fascinated by her handbag choices. She loves the classics but isn’t afraid to shake things up. Her latest love, the YSL Easy Y Satchel, is a classic in the making. The simple design features rolled leather handles, gold-tone hardware, dual zip top closure and side snap tabs.

A large, tonal “Y” stitched on the front (but thinner than the “Y” on the ‘Muse’) serves as the only decorative element as well as the all-important label identifier. We know that’s not the reason Kylie loves this bag, though.

A purse party should be a fun gathering of handbag-loving gal pals, not a violent happening to rival an episode of Jerry Springer! But just try telling that to a couple of women in Missouri City!

Carla Lester and her mother Joyce Payne are the kind of angry women we love to read about, but we’d never invite them to a party. They entered the room where the guests were waiting to see the handbags, and apparently didn’t like what they saw!

No one’s exactly sure what set the dynamic duo off, but they began to yell at the waiting women and jab their fingers in their faces. As any attacked woman would do, one retaliated. With her fists.

According to the The Houston Press it soon became an all-out scuffle. Ms Payne slashed one woman on the neck and arm with an unknown cutting instrument, while her mother brandished a Louisville Slugger in a threatening manner!

Needless to say, the manic mother and daughter were both charged with assault.

Maybe I’m just not attending the right soirees, but I don’t think I’ve ever been to a purse party which had any weapons just lying around! I guess they do things a little differently in Missouri City!

“The whole thing was getting a bit revolting. I’ve always thought the really, really expensive bag, which then becomes completely unfashionable the next season, is a bit dishonest, and I think customers are more intelligent than that.“

It might seem a little hypocritical for Anya to take potshots at It bags considering she creates luxury purses herself, but she insists this isn’t the case.

“Certainly we had bags some people called It Bags, but generally it’s not what I stand for as a brand. What’s important to me is lasting design, something you can hand onto your grandchildren.”

Anya encourages women to buy just one handbag each year to treasure, rather than one every season. She even advocates recycling purses from years gone by!

It’s good news for style lovers feeling the pinch of increasing petrol prices and rent rises. And Anya means what she says, after recently teaming up with Target for a line of affordable luxury accessories.
