With this Ceyla Hobo, Salvatore Ferragamo proves Bottega Veneta isn’t the only fashion house with a way with weaves.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a woven finish as striking as this one. Salvatore Ferragamo has manipulated leather strips of various lengths to create the contemporary finish. It takes its cues from traditional weaves, but when we look at it closely there’s much more texture and drama. That’s also helped by the gentle color shifts in the brown leather. The various shades are subtle and complementary, and that ensures the finish stays sophisticated.

I’m in two minds about the wooden handle. On one hand it’s quirky and playful, but there are a few key negatives to consider. The studs make the wood appear a bit richer, but I don’t think they gel with the Ceyla’s high class bohemian vision. They also encourage us to shift focus when we should be focusing on the woven finish. And while it’s ergonomically shaped and smoothed, wooden handles are never as forgiving as soft leathers or fabrics. Personally I don’t think the look is worth sacrificing comfort.

I also don’t think we should make any compromises for $1890. With a different handle I’d be sorely tempted, but that hard handle gives me the willpower to resist!

English model Laura Bailey has been named as the brand ambassador for British handbag label Radley’s spring/summer 2012 advertising campaign.

The commercials see Bailey relaxing on the beach at Camber Sands. Renowned photographer Angelo Pennetta and Radley’s creative director and shoot stylist Kate Hillier have opted to keep the campaign feeling very natural, which I think is perfect for the season. And besides, a born beauty doesn’t need any trickery to shine!

Perhaps Bailey looks so relaxed because Radley allowed her to wear her own clothes during the shoot. How often does that happen? Apparently Hillier and Bailey decided the approach would best demonstrate how a bag can make any outfit shine. Even if that’s a beat up old army jacket, a cozy cardigan, or a mismatched boho beach ensemble!

Bailey said she wanted to work with Radley as it celebrates “creativity, quality and craftsmanship.” She added that she’s also passionate about supporting her country’s companies and design talent.

In the glossy world of fashion the natural look of this Radley campaign really stands out. While Bailey is impossibly beautiful, seeing her with minimal makeup and the sort of clothes I have in my own closet is very approachable. If she can rock these bags, surely we can too!

Roxy’s come a long way since its early days as a surfwear specialist. The Dusk shoulder bag is a great example of the versatile and affordable accessories the label now offers.

The Dusk isn’t a pioneer by any means, but it’s a lovely homage to bohemian style. Its drawstring closure might be a bit fiddly to manage, but I love the way it gathers in the top, creating a soft, casual silhouette. Its long braided tie is also ideal for the Dusk’s hippie-chic image. The merlot color won’t change the world but it’s a fresh alternative to brown or burgundy. It’s somewhere in between the two more traditional hues, yet it feels more unusual than either one.

The Dusk’s generous dimensions are perfect for holding most things we need, and probably a few extras besides. Such a slouchy shape is never easy to keep organized, but there’s an array of interior pockets on hand to help us out. I also appreciate the long shoulder strap, which is perfect for grabbing as we’re rushing out the door.

The Dusk is made from the sort of vinyl that will never pass for real leather. It’s too thin, and a little too shiny. But that compromise helps Roxy price this shoulder bag at just $44. It won’t have the longevity of a leather bag, but perhaps when it falls apart you can afford an upgrade!

This purse offers a brilliant take on traditional diamond quilting. Rather than neatly dividing the leather body into regular diamond shapes, the New Prismic’s stitches create a futuristic faceted finish, something like the surface of a precious gemstone.

Roger Vivier allows the stitching to shine by keeping the rest of the New Prismic’s styling simple. The basic flap-over design is something we’ve all seen many times before, but that faceted finish and the bold green color help us appreciate it through new eyes. The gleaming gold chain shoulder strap and logo are a gorgeous complement to that rich emerald hue.

The New Prismic’s medium dimensions make it a very versatile creature, perfect for casual lunches or hitting the town. It doesn’t take a lot to keep a space this size organized, but Roger Vivier isn’t taking any chances. The trio of open pouches and generous zippered pocket exceed our expectations.

Frankly I can’t fault this purse, which is exactly what I need if I’m ever going to spend $3330 on a bag. That’s an awful lot of money, but there are worse things to indulge in!

In the tradition of its Alexa Bag comes Mulberry’s Travel Bag range, the latest addition to its accessories line.

Some media outlets have dubbed the newest design the Alexa’s “love child,” and it’s not hard to see why. Its satchel shape, braided leather handle, and double-buckle fastening are all familiar. However the metal tipped corners and chic metal nameplate evoke vintage steamer trunks from the golden age of travel.

The design is available as a large Travel Day Bag for everyday use and a smaller Travel Camera Bag. Each one is available in a range of finishes. The most affordable Day Bag will set you back £995, or roughly $1575 US, while the most expensive tops £2250, or around $3565. If that’s a bit rich for your blood consider the Travel Camera Bag which is between £795 and £895, the equivalent of $1260 to $1418 US.

It’s not even on retail shelves yet but it’s already garnered a few celebrity fans. Hayley Atwell, Juno Temple, and Blake Lively have all been spotted toting the Travel Day Bag. The rest of us will have to wait until February 15 to own one.

Roberto Cavalli takes its signature luxury looks to the beach with this Python Printed Canvas and Straw tote.

This handbag looks opulent from a distance, but it’s cleverly made to survive those harsh coastal conditions. Its natural woven straw body gives this tote a classic summer finish, but it’s the python accents that make it really special.

We wouldn’t dare take authentic snakeskin out in the salty sea air, so Roberto Cavalli has opted for the next best thing. Colored canvas is much more practical, and from a distance you’ll barely notice the difference. The leather handles and nameplate aren’t as appropriate for the shore, but they do provide the sort of luxury Roberto Cavalli fans love.

The python printed canvas is an inspired choice, so I’m glad to see more of it inside. There we find a cute snake patterned coin purse made of the same colored canvas and attached with a leather chain. I think the design would be more user-friendly if we could remove the pouch completely, but at least we never have to worry about losing it!

The open top design compromises security some, but at least we have that pouch for storing anything of value. Just make sure you have friends to keep an eye on it while you’re enjoying the ocean.

On looks alone I’d say this tote is worth the $553 Roberto Cavalli commands. But remember, this is essentially a straw and canvas tote, with only a splash of authentic leather. It’s overpriced, but if you’re a real sun lover you may still see value.

Promotional accessories wholesaler Bag Warehouse has teamed up with the Roc Solid Foundation to help victims of pediatric cancer. Bag Warehouse has created new Imprinted Duffel Bags for Roc Solid’s Ready-Bag initiative, which helps families with children battling the cancer.

It’s a cause close to Roc Solid founder Eric Newman’s heart, as he was diagnosed with pediatric cancer at the tender age of three. While he knows all too well the toll the disease can take on its victims and their families, he hopes the Ready-Bag scheme will help “soften the blow.”

Reed Krakoff has created a bag for all seasons with this Atlantique tote.

This is the kind of handbag I don’t mind spending the big bucks on. While my husband would never agree, I consider it an investment in a fashionable future rather than an attempt to follow trends. Its clean lines and classic design will never go out of vogue after all. However that blue leather gives it a bit of personality. It’s a more unique shade than navy, but it’s also not unusual enough to raise eyebrows.

The Atlantique’s easy blend of modern and retro style influences suckered me in, but it’s the practical design that keeps me interested. I love the way the two deep side pockets are incorporated into the design, and the generous dimensions. The rolled handles could stand to be a bit longer, but I admit they really suit the Atlantic’s looks. Sometimes that commitment to style is more important than functionality.

The Atlantique is a serious investment at $1989, but if you treat it well you should enjoy many years of service from this beautiful blue tote.

With the Wallet on a Chain purse, Rebecca Minkoff’s satisfied our desire for fashion and need for weapon!

Can’t you just imagine belting a would-be mugger with this studded wallet? Its spiky metal studs are slightly rounded, but I think they’d still do some damage! And perhaps just the sight of this purse would be enough to keep any assailants away. I wouldn’t want to mess with anyone carrying this clutch, would you?

As its name suggests this is really a wallet on a chain. That makes it perfect for organizing our finances, but not so great for holding other items. The pair of bill slots, zippered coin compartment, and dozen credit card slots keep our cash and cards sorted, but what about our cell phone and keys?

The removable chain promises to offer a bit more versatility. But before you consider stripping it away and using it as a clutch, remember those studs. While they’re not completely sharp, I can’t imagine they’ll feel good in the palm of your hand!

While I love the look, I find the Wallet on a Chain’s storage limitations really off putting. However at least it delivers what it promises, which is more than many accessories on the market!

Footwear brand Sperry Top-Sider will expand its product range as it moves to become a comprehensive lifestyle company. Handbags, belts, hosiery, swimwear, scarves, and gloves will all become part of the Sperry Top-Sider collection thanks to the company’s five new license agreements.

Sperry Top-Sider president Craig Reingold says his firm looks to meet the demands of his customers, who’ve often requested more of the brand’s products. Just like the label’s famous casual shoes, these new items will target women and men who are passionate about the sea and their active lifestyle. Sperry Top-Sider plans to work closely with its new partners, which include Manhattan Beachwear and Tandy Brands, to ensure the resulting products fit in with the label’s vision.

The range of new lines sounds impressive, but it seems Sperry Top-Sider isn’t resting on its laurels. It’s currently negotiating further deals which should help it add eyewear and watches, amongst other essential items, to its rapidly expanding collection.

The new Sperry Top-Sider products are still in the development stage though, so we’ll be waiting some time for their release. Look for the items in Sperry Top-Sider outlets, premium department stores and specialty retailers in North America in the spring of 2013.
