Popular New York designer Rebecca Minkoff has been making waves lately in the celebrity fashion world. Stephen Sprouse’s famous 2001 collaboration with Louis Vuitton was unforgettable. His graffiti bags and rose print purses were snapped up by keen fashionistas the world over. Now four years after his death, the fashion house’s creative director Marc Jacobs has paid tribute to this design pioneer.

“It’s this idea of a head-to-toe look in this brash, neon, rock ‘n’ roll, edgy, street-informed style,” Marc Jacobs told WWD. “Sprouse really best personified it.

“I tried to take what Stephen had done at Vuitton and then kind of flip it in my head, and make it Vuitton’s work for Stephen, not Stephen’s work for Vuitton.”

The revamped Sprouse collection includes rose motif monogram Speedys and hot pink graffiti holdalls, like this one Marc Jacobs has used to protect his modesty! This sexy shot will appear in the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar to promote the line.

We’ll get a sneak peek of the complete collection on December 15 when welovesprouse.com goes live. The site will also feature interviews with people who knew Stephen Sprouse best, and their commentary on how he influenced fashion and art.

The Sprouse tribute line will be available from Louis Vuitton stores worldwide from January 9.

Urbanistas and others who follow fashion closely have been waiting ages for design duo Proenza Schouler to release their much anticipated PS1 line of bags. And, unlike so many oft-anticipated events, the arrival of these bags did not disappoint. The quirky quality the line is known for definitely translates well into the exotic appeal of the PS1 Messenger Bag.

The foldover python leather flap with double strap closure in its generous 15″ x 7″ x 9″ size makes for a practical and luxurious take everywhere bag. To me, it seems like a schoolbag of Gossip Girl style extravagance. I imagine Serena toting her MacBook Pro, iPod, and sleek sunglasses to and fro The Upper East Side in this soft-skinned tote.  The only catch here is the clasps. They seem a lot to fiddle with to get in and out of the interior.

And if you aren’t a Manhattan socialite or happen to be someone for whom money is an object, acquiring this hot little number may be a little hard to handle. The retail price of over $4,000 makes this one elite carryall. So, while it was already on Mary-Kate’s arm by fashion week, some of us may have to wait a little longer to get our own piece of Proenza Schouler’s PS1 line. And, though the PS1 messenger line is touted as completely unisex, I wonder how many men will want to make this sleek snakeskin bag their own. Perhaps the smooth-skinned leather version is a better choice for him? At under $2,000, it’s probably a more practical option for both of you!

So all-in-all, while the style and statement making potential of the PS1 Python Messenger bag is inherently covetable, it’s just not a reasonable everyday bag for every single one of us.

Although an eye-catching bag is nothing new for a Marc Jacobs collection, the metallic quilted leather Stam purse takes the cake for me. Inspired by Canadian model Jessica Stam, this designer bag is as stunning as its namesake.

Gold-colored hardware is a nice contrast to the bold silver. The chunky gold chain is one option for carrying the Stam handbag; you can also use the double handles, if you so choose.

You won’t find any blatant branding on the Stam. Small details carry the designer’s name including one of the knobs on the kiss-lock clasp, the metal zipper pull, and the signature logo stamped on the interior. With its quilted leather and chunky gold chain handle, the Stam handbag reminds me just a bit of a Chanel purse. Fortunately, Marc Jacobs offers this one for considerably less as it retails under $2000.
