Badgley Mischka Amy Tote | Perforated Blush Pink Leather Handbag

Posted on: Jul 6

Badgley Mischka Amy ToteBadgley Mischka attempts to win over anyone who swore they’d never wear pink with this Amy tote.

Subtlety is key here. The Amy’s blush color is so pale that even pink haters might forgive it. It’s feminine but not in your face, a pretty hue that’s versatile enough to carry anywhere. And if I still haven’t convinced you, you can always find the Amy in black.

Personally I’d persevere with the pink though, as it really brings out the Amy’s details. The perforated finish of the top panel and snap-button tabs are really what make the Amy special. These elements, along with the tote’s personality, are lost in the black version.

Whichever one you pick you’ll likely appreciate the Amy’s practicality though. Badgley Mischka’s worked hard to make this tall tote user-friendly. Large external pockets and an array of internal ones ensure you don’t need to get arm deep in your tote to find the essentials. The Amy’s also very slender, so if anything does go missing it shouldn’t take too long to locate. A paler lining would have made that job a bit easier, but it’s a minor quibble.

The rounded handles add to the Amy’s retro appeal, but they’re a bit short to be very serviceable. Thankfully Badgley Mischka’s also added a cross-body strap. However this could have stood to be a shade wider, as it’s bound to drag on shoulders. Make sure you don’t overstuff the Amy to avoid any strain.

At $259.99 though, we can forgive a few missteps. That’s not a lot to spend on a tote of such style and substance.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Patent Leather Hobo | Black Python Embossed Handbag

Posted on: Jul 5

Michael Kors Patent Leather HoboSome exotic embossing helps elevate this patent leather hobo from Michael Kors’ MICHAEL diffusion line above the pack.

It’s strange to call this bag a hobo, because it has none of the style’s hallmarks. Its shape is much more angular than the hobo’s usual crescent silhouette. It’s got a bit of slouch about it, but we find that in many soft leather handbags. But most critically, it’s missing that bohemian essence associated with a hobo. Its shiny exotic finish has much more urban edge than hippie vibe. In fact, I’m wondering why Lola Bernard’s called it a hobo at all!

When we adjust our expectations, we discover a very serviceable and sexy handbag. Personally I prefer this modern style to a typical hobo, as it’s much more on trend. Its black color screams city cool, and works well with the delicate stud and chain accents. A few more color choices may have widened its appeal, but clearly Michael Kors knows the look he was aiming for.

This patent leather hobo is a generously sized bag, which is both a blessing and a burden. Of course we shouldn’t need to leave anything we want behind. But the combination of the large dimensions and relaxed finish make the bag quite unmanageable, especially when we’re on the move. Make sure you store anything you need often in the interior pockets to avoid that dreaded black hole syndrome.

This Michael Kors hobo isn’t a perfect purse, but at $398 it doesn’t have to be. That’s not a lot to spend on a genuine leather bag with such rich looks.

  • Magnetic snap closure
  • Logo jacquard print lining

Jeremy Scott Designs New Longchamp Le Pliage Bag | Computer Keyboard Patterned Tote

Posted on: Jul 5

Longchamp Jeremy Scott Keyboard Le Pliage

Jeremy Scott has looked to the digital world for inspiration for his twelfth collaboration with Longchamp. The result is a brand new Le Pliage bag decorated with a colourful computer keyboard pattern.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Scott using the distinctive keyboard print. Keen style spotters might remember a male model wearing a shirt and pants covered in the digital pattern strutting down the runway during Scott’s fall 2012 New York Fashion Week show.

Personally I thought the keyboard decorated apparel went several steps too far, but I think it works well on the Le Pliage. The classic Longchamp style is quite staid, and it really deserves a lively pattern to spice things up. I can imagine the tote providing a fun pop against a neutral ensemble. Perhaps we might see it on the arms of playful IT workers in future?

I also think it’s a real improvement over some of his recent Le Pliages, including the narcissistic nameplate covered version, and the sugary pink Flinstones inspired Bone bag. Do you agree?

The new Jeremy Scott for Longchamp bags are set to retail for $355. That’s no bargain, but it’s also not exorbitant for a limited edition line. Look for them at Longchamp stores around the globe later this month.

Badgley Mischka Amber Shoulder Bag | Convertible Brown Leather Handbag

Posted on: Jul 5

Badgley Mischka Amber Shoulder BagBadgley Mischka serves up contemporary style and substance with this Amber Shoulder Bag.

While the Amber has a modern feel to it, Badgley Mischka doesn’t allow it to look too trend conscious. Its polished hardware gives the Amber an of the moment feel, but that’s tempered by the classic turn-lock closure and flap over design. The brown leather is another smart choice which ensures the Amber is versatile for today, and timeless for tomorrow.

The Amber’s a generously sized bag, but Badgley Mischka exceeds our expectations with a pair of internal zippered pocket and a matching set of gadget pouches. The carrying options add extra versatility. The rolled handles are long enough to slip over your shoulder, but Badgley Mischka also provides a cross-body strap for a more casual look. I wish this were wider, as it’s bound to tug at our shoulders once the Amber’s full, but this is a minor quibble.

The Amber is stylish, but it doesn’t have that X factor that makes us weak at the knees. However it’s well priced for a bag of its quality and design at just $329.99.

More Features of This Badgley Mischka Leather Shoulder Bag

  • Fully lined interior
  • Dual handles with a 9 inch drop
  • A detachable strap with a 25 inch drop

Joan Smalls Models for Fendi | Karl Lagerfeld Shoots Fall/Winter Commercial

Posted on: Jul 5

Fendi 2012 Fall Advertisement

Current It girl Joan Smalls fronts Fendi’s new fall/winter 2012 campaign.

Fendi’s own Karl Lagerfeld shot the picturesque advertisements at a vineyard in Chianti, Italy. The idyllic commercials don’t have any real flash about them, but they ensure that striking patchwork satchel, and Smalls herself, shine. By dressing the Puerto Rican born model in a neutral gray ensemble and standing her against a fairly muted landscape, Lagerfeld’s really made that vibrant purse pop. I can barely stop staring at it!

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Lagerfeld rubbing shoulders with the up and coming model. Remember that he handpicked Smalls to star in the spring campaign for his other fashion house, Chanel. No doubt that familiarity’s helped her to seem completely at ease in this commercial campaign.

For Lagerfeld, there was no question about who he’d choose to model for this new Fendi campaign. He made up his mind after watching Smalls strut her stuff in his fall 2012 runway show.

I said to myself backstage during the show: ‘It’s her and her alone. No other girl — or boy — no child, only her,” he told Women’s Wear Daily.

Are you as impressed as Lagerfeld with Smalls’ work?

Michael Kors Grayson Satchel | Large Logo Print PVC Handbag

Posted on: Jul 5

Michael Kors Grayson SatchelMichael Kors seems strangely out of step with modern fashion with its Grayson satchel.

With trends moving away from obvious logos, this satchel seems quite dated. It might suit girls who want to brag about their designer purchase, but it undermines the Grayson’s classic nature.

The choice of material is also disappointing. Michael Kors has only used real leather for the trim, preferring to use PVC for the rest of it. Admittedly the synthetic is a bit hardier than the manmade skins cheap and cheerful labels utilize. But whichever way you cut it, it’s still PVC.

I might have accepted the material better if we’d received a discount on this bag. But at $449.99, this satchel costs as much as many all-leather alternatives. And most of them don’t look like fashion throwbacks.

To be fair, the Grayson does most things a satchel should. Its main compartment is ample and well-appointed with a selection of convenient pockets. Its straps are adjustable too, although they can’t be extended long enough to easily fit over our shoulders. On the functional front that’s really all there is to fault. But the Grayson’s styling, and that hefty price tag, are what really let it down.

More Features of This Michael Kors Monogrammed Satchel

  • Signature logo-engraved hardware
  • Protective metal feet on the base
  • Top zip closure
  • Logo lined interior
  • Measures 13.5 x 7.5 x 9.5 inches

LeSportsac Striped Clear Beach Tote | Creamsicle Colored Transparent Bag

Posted on: Jul 4

LeSportsac Striped Clear Beach ToteThe fashion shows may be celebrating the cooler weather ahead, but I’m determined to hang on to summer as long as I can. If you are too, this striped clear beach tote from LeSportsac might be just what you need.

Few bags celebrate summer as well as this one. Its feminine color scheme calls to mind an icy creamsicle! The pink, orange, and clear stripes are set off by LeSportsac’s logo printed grosgrain ribbon trim.

This tote is made from vinyl, a material that’s less than luxurious. But it’s a smart choice for a bag made for an active lifestyle. It’ll stay strong when exposed to salty sea air and sand. It’s also easily cleaned with a damp cloth, even when it encounters soda spills and dripped ice cream. It might not turn heads, but it’s got a lot going for it.

The clear panel takes away a little mystery, but you can hide anything sensitive or valuable in the accompanying nylon pouch. Its red fabric finish will keep these small items away from prying eyes.

This is a fairly simple beach tote, but it’s also a lot of fun. And at $98, it also won’t break the bank. Brilliant!

More Features of This LeSportsac Vinyl Beach Tote

  • Open top design
  • Dual handles with a 10 inch drop
  • Measures 15 x 20 x 6 inches

Britain Loves Designer Bags, Especially Mulberry | World Luxury Index’s Internet Study

Posted on: Jul 4

Mulberry BagBritish babes love their luxury bags according to new research from the World Luxury Index. The study, which analyzed the internet browsing habits of fashionistas in eight global markets, showed Brits are the most passionate about designer handbags.

In the United Kingdom luxury handbags showed in 422 searches per 1000 internet users. This was significantly higher than results in the United States, Italy, France, and Japan.

The Brits showed a loyalty to their own fashion industry; Mulberry was searched for twice as much as its nearest competitor, Chanel. However when we look at the global results, Coach came out on top, followed by Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, and Longchamp.

When we look at specifics, nothing beat Hermes’ Birkin bag. The crocodile leather models were particularly popular searches for browsers in the United States, United Kingdom, and France. It beat out other iconic models Chanel 2.55, Louis Vuitton Speedy, and Mulberry Alexa.

This is the first time the World Luxury Index has analysed internet activity. I’d be interested to see how these results correlate to real sales. Internet shopping has made it easier to indulge, but it’s also seen the rise of a kind of digital window shopping. I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of spending time admiring the bags we could never afford!

Chloe Mary Pocket Tote | Practical Caramel Leather Handbag

Posted on: Jul 4

Chloe Mary Pocket ToteIf the See by Chloe label’s too trend-conscious for your taste, the designer’s signature range may be right up your alley. The Mary is an excellent example of the high-end label’s commitment to elegance and timeless design.

The Mary’s the kind of bag you could take anywhere without fear of it looking out of place. It’s got classic good looks and its caramel colored leather will work with almost any outfit. Its curved corners soften the structured shape, making it look feminine but not too fussy. The front pocket looks a little tacked on, but it’s a smart space for stashing the items we love on hand like lip balm and keys.

That pocket points to the Mary’s practical side. It’s dimensions are just right for daytime use, large enough for carrying everything we need but not so big that we’ll feel weighed down. The main compartment is lined with durable twill and well appointed with a trio of organizational pockets. Its handles are long enough for slinging over your shoulder, and as they’re flat they should stay put.

The Mary’s a bit of a quiet achiever, without the details that make fashionistas drool. But it’ll stand the test of time, which makes its $1515 price tag seem that much more reasonable.

More Features of This Chloe Classic Leather Tote

  • Antiqued gold-toned hardware
  • Top zip closure
  • Five protective metal feet on the base
  • Dual handles with a 7 inch drop
  • Measures 15 x 10 x 5.5 inches

Banana Republic’s “Anna Karenina” Collection | Russian Apparel & Accessories for Film Release

Posted on: Jul 4

Anna KareninaBanana Republic is celebrating the release of the forthcoming Anna Karenina film with a Russian inspired fashion collection.

Banana Republic worked closely with Anna Karenina’s costume designer Jacqueline Durran on the cinematic capsule collection. The faux fur collared apparel items, pearl and crystal jewelry, and luxurious looking handbags channel the world created in the epic romance. Black and dove gray fabrics make the fashion line versatile and timeless.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Banana Republic inspired by popular culture. It’s not that long ago that we saw the retailer releasing a pair of Mad Men inspired fashion lines. Those retro ranges were great successes, which Banana Republic no doubt hopes to replicate with its latest collaborative line.

The Anna Karenina line is well timed to reach such dizzy heights. It hits Banana Republic stores and the retailer’s website in October, the time when we’re all wanting for fur adorned fashion and neutral colors.

It’s also priced well enough for us all to indulge. We can score a piece of jewelry for $29.50 and spend just $39.50 on a romantic blouse. The handbags are a bit pricier at $250, or we could really splurge and spend $325 on a Russian style coat.

Are you excited about Banana Republic’s latest line?
