While so many drawstring handbags are relaxed affairs, the black leather finish of this one makes it a more versatile choice. You probably wouldn’t take it to your next picnic, but you could easily bring it to the office, and then to happy hour after work!

The drawstring threaded through the top of the purse adds security, while creating those sexy pleats. They are clearly the centerpiece, with the rest of the bag’s design basic and neutral. But look closely and you’ll see the Jil Sander name embossed in the corner.

I love the look, but the details are a little disappointing. The drawstring handles are so thin that I’m sure they’d be uncomfortable if your bag was full. It’s not very large, but even that medium-sized space is bound to get hefty once your wallet, cell phone, and other essentials are packed inside. They’re so skinny, I’m not sure they’d last very long either. And anyone who’s ever suffered the indignity of a snapped strap knows there’s nothing worse on a day out!

I’m also unimpressed by the lack of organizational features. Sure the bag isn’t enormous, but I’m the kind of girl who wants to find my cell phone as soon as it rings. A couple of pockets in the side walls would have made the interior a much more functional space.

It’s got its flaws, but if it’s style you’re after this is still a tempting proposition.

Coach is unveiling a massive marketing campaign for their upcoming Poppy Collection this week, with the usual fanfare of Coach Poppy-emblazoned double decker buses and phone kiosks in New York City as well as some new media initiatives.

The brand, which has focused on traditional advertising in the past, is planning a new media blitz with Facebook, Twitter, an interactive portion of their Web site and even a microsite to launch Friday at www.coach.com/poppy. They’re also partnering with blogs like FabSugar and JustJared for in-store events. “Are You A Poppy Girl?” will launch on Coach.com July 1.

But more about the bags! The collection will include handbags, footwear, jewelry, watches, eyewear, small leather goods and selected apparel ranging in price from $48 to $598. It is described as upbeat, preppy and playful and represents a more lighthearted approach for Coach, perhaps to combat the new darker economic climate. The accessories are to be brightly colored, printed and embellished so this is sounding like more of a teen line.

Here we have the perfect bag for those of us who are still feeling the summer vibe. The shops may be seeing in the midyear sales, but at least clutches like this can help us keep that sunny floral vibe going into the winter months.

I’m not really a butterfly person. I know there are people who are slightly obsessed with the graceful insect, but I don’t usually include myself in that group. It’s definitely not something I would think to put on a handbag, but if anyone would do it it’s Jessica Simpson.

For some reason, this bright orange nylon background must have seemed like the perfect place to showcase the detail. Individual manmade butterflies are laced together in a sort of lattic effect on top of the nylon satchel.

I have to admit, though, that until I really looked at this handbag, I didn’t even realize that the shapes were butterflies. With orange on orange, it’s not as obnoxious as it could be in contrasting colors.

The Oasis satchel could be a fun summer bag, especially for carrying to the beach or livening up a casual shorts and t-shirt outfit. In my opinion, it should be limited to outfits that require flip-flops or sandals. However, I’m sure everyone will have their own opinion on that one.

If the butterflies and bright orange are just too much for you, you could choose the Oasis in white. This creamy color option has manmade flower shapes instead. Insects or flowers, this Jessica Simpson bag retails for $98.

It might have been a somewhat somber event, but Rihanna wasn’t going to let that stop her from looking fabulous and chic. The singer showed up to a court hearing regarding the Chris Brown case on Monday in head-to-toe designer duds.

The pop star appeared in court carrying a Proenza Schouler PS1 bag in black python. The designer purse, which comes in many styles and textures, must have been the perfect classic accessory to her mature yet fashionable get-up.

Brown might have pleaded guilty to assault charges sentenced to probation and hard labor, but I’d say Rihanna won that day in more ways than one. I have no doubt that she was also the most stylish woman there.

That lush black leather isn’t what you’ll notice first though. The unique asymmetrical shape is really the star, with its sexy curves and chic lines. The calfskin knows its place, enhancing the purse’s design rather than detracting from it. There’s just enough polish and poise here to please.

Such a sophisticated design wouldn’t seem right on an oversized purse. So this one bucks the trend, delivering an interior that’s just large enough for everything you need to transition from day to night. While its practical size is a plus, the main compartment is a little disappointing for luxury lovers. No one will notice the vinyl lining, but this cheap fabric is a real letdown when compared to the lush leather outside.

The shoulder strap may seem daunting, but don’t let that fool you. While the style is a little unconventional, it’s comfortable and long enough to simply grab and go!

Dolce & Gabbana is embracing the digital age with the launch of its brand new online store.

The website sells the Italian fashion label’s famous collections, including clothes, handbags and other accessories, beachwear, eyewear, and jewelry. Stylistas from 31 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and a range of smaller European markets, will be able to buy their favorite D & G goods from the comfort of their own home.

“The online boutique is like a game. It’s a fun and immediate way to shop, without space or time limitations. We are confident it will get people even closer to D and G’s dynamic universe,” Stefano Gabanna said.

As the website doesn’t have the overheads of regular retail outlets, Dolce & Gabbana is offering a 20% discount on all online sales.

“The idea is to peel off the superfluous because there are too many clothes, too many seasons, too much advertising, too much of everything that is tacked onto the final price. We want to go back to how things were 20 years ago. It’s about drawing the line. This is the only way to save the market and our companies. It’s time to turn the page,” added Domenico Dolce explained.

I’ll bet most of us don’t care why we’re saving money. It’s just wonderful to enjoy the discounts. Now if only the site would expand the service to Australia so I could snap up some affordable Dolce & Gabbana goodies too!
