Brynn Capella gets us ready for summer days on the beach and picnics in the park with this Sierra Bamboo Tote.

The Sierra is made from high quality fabrics including cotton and toile. These materials are paired with a small bamboo handle in the tradition of Gucci. No one would ever mistake it for a bag from the luxury Italian line, but the handle does make the tote appear more sophisticated than your average fabric bag. It won’t feel cushy in our hand, but the Sierra’s small stature means it shouldn’t cause too much discomfort.

The interior sees Brynn Capella employ more high quality materials. The bengaline lining won’t fray at the edges, even around pressure points like the pocket and zip closure.

The Sierra Tote is available in a few different prints, but I think this chevron pattern is the pick of them. It calls to mind the iconic zig-zag prints of Missoni, although it costs far less than anything from the label’s signature line! There are also floral versions in pink and blue, but the oversized abstract blooms look a bit ungainly for my tastes.

Honestly this tote is probably a bit too expensive at $148. It appears like a bit of a mishmash of high end designer handbags, but that doesn’t mean it should fetch more than your average fabric tote.

French heiress Claire Courtin-Clarins shows off the streets of her Paris hometown and Louis Vuitton’s latest Epi bags in the French fashion house’s latest advertising campaign, dubbed Epi is Magic.

The Epi has been one of Louis Vuitton’s most enduring lines since its introduction in the 1980s. Personally I find its woodgrain inspired texture much more appealing than Louis Vuitton’s popular signature materials. It’s unusual to see such a timeless line starring in its own commercials, but some modern new colors mean it’s time to take another look.

Those hues really outshine Claire Courtin-Clarins and the Parisian backdrop in these commercials. The model and streets are muted, which allows the new colors including cyan canard, fuchsia, menthe green, prune purple, and citron yellow to shine. This youthful color palette transforms recognizable styles like the Alma, Petit Noe, and Tricolore Noe into fresh new fashion statements.

Claire Courtin-Clarins holds her own in these striking commercials, but I’m more impressed with photographer Fabrice Laffont’s contribution. His advertisements are so creative, yet they never get so clever that we lose sight of the handbags. And after all, no matter which celebrities are employed to accompany them, those accessories should be the stars of any advertising campaign.

Its synthetic body might disappoint style snobs, but the Zeus’ cheerful yellow color and low price make the Zeus pretty appealing for the rest of us.

Perhaps Big Buddha shouldn’t have given this tote such a grand name. It’s hardly otherworldly after all. But there’s a lot to like about this sweet bargain basement buy. I really like the unusual stitching, which creates a quirky hexagonal design across the front panel. I wish Big Buddha had continued this decoration on the back, but corner cutting is one of the label’s old tricks. At least it appeases us with a zippered pocket on the back. It’s not stylish, but it is smart.

The Zeus bucks the tote trend and gives us a whole lot of space. While it’s refreshing that we don’t need to squeeze our items inside, we probably didn’t need quite this much room. However those generous dimensions mean the Zeus could work double duty as a weekender or a carry-on bag for those quick getaways.

I love the sunshine quality of this yellow Zeus, but I know the happy hue will scare some girls off. Happily Big Buddha offers its Zeus in four more shades, from youthful turquoise and pink to more subdued black and white. With such diverse options, there should be one to suit almost everybody!

Rebecca Minkoff gives us all the luxury of snake skin without the four-figure price tag with the Beau.

I was shocked to find the Beau isn’t made of python, but a very good embossed leather. Choosing a high quality skin is the easy part, but few designers use their materials as well as Rebecca Minkoff. The realistic looking uneven scales create a finish that could fool even the biggest fashion snobs.

I can’t recall ever spotting a snake in this particular shade of plum red, but that’s the beauty of an embossed leather. We can indulge in a hue so striking, without any regard for the natural tones of the animal kingdom. The color might not be as easy to incorporate into a wardrobe as a more neutral hue, but I imagine it’d add just the right pop to more outfits than you might expect.

We rarely indulge in clutch purses because they’re practical, but the Beau is one of the smarter ones on the market. Its generously sized interior features a secure zippered pocket and a luxurious looking golden chain, ready and waiting to serve when you feel like going hands free.

The $395 is the clincher. While that’s not exactly cheap for a clutch purse, it’s a lot less expensive than a genuine snake accessory would be!

Desperate Housewives costume designer Cate Adair has designed a limited edition Mariposa bag for online e-tailer Handbag Tailor.

Canadian designer Miss MAK Designs created just 100 of these black pebbled leather satchels from Cate Adair’s sketches. Their exteriors are decorated with a smattering of steel rivets around the straps and dressed up with black anaconda pockets. Inside you’ll find slip and zip pockets and racy cheetah patterned fabric lining. Each one is numbered to mark their limited edition status.

The Mariposa isn’t as eye-catching as many limited edition lines, but that only makes it more timeless. Its sophisticated styling should transcend trends and seasons, so you should see plenty of value for your $470. That’s not a lot to spend on a bag made with such high quality leather, especially one that’s vamped up with a splash of snakeskin. And for a limited edition accessory made from these enviable materials, it’s virtually unheard of!

The Mariposa is available exclusively from Handbag Tailor. It’s set to be the first of many limited edition purses on the site, so it might be worth bookmarking this online store and checking back regularly.

The military look might have fallen out of favor in recent seasons, but Brynn Capella looks to bring the style back with the Zee satchel.

While its aesthetic isn’t on trend, the Zee doesn’t really look dated, perhaps because Brynn Capella hasn’t gone overboard. Its chevron etched buttons are really the only obvious marker of military fashion. Its large, structured satchel shape is another military trademark, but such a practical design never falls out of favor.

The Zee is really functional, with generous dimensions which stop short of being unmanageable and plenty of interior and exterior pockets. Its dual handles are long enough for snugly fitting over your shoulder, but the cross-body strap may suit you better if you’ve got errands to run. It’s fully adjustable too, so you can wear the Zee as a shoulder bag or cross-body purse depending on your mood.

I love the appearance of this bright, white leather version, but I worry it won’t look as good after a few seasons. If you’re unsure about its staying power you can always enjoy the Zee in forever yours red or in the navy blue.

Gorgeous Monaco royal Charlotte Casiraghi is the new face of Gucci.

After a long association with the brand, Grace Kelly’s granddaughter and the fourth in line to Monaco’s throne will front a four-part series for the Italian fashion house’s Forever New campaign.

As Casiraghi is an able horse rider and show-jumper, it makes sense that Vogue photographer Peter Lindbergh will shoot an equestrian themed marketing campaign. Horse inspired elements have been signature Gucci for decades, and Casiraghi’s heritage makes her perfect for bringing the sport to life for the brand.

It’s unusual to see a fashion label looking to the world’s royal families for models, but Casiraghi is no stranger to the brand. Gucci has made her show-jumping team’s uniforms for the last two years. I’m sure most of the other teams didn’t look quite so posh on the Global Champions Tour. She’s also been spotted regularly wearing Gucci couture to high class events. And let’s not forget that her grandmother Grace Kelly regularly wore Gucci’s designs. It’s also quite fitting to look to such an established family to front the commercials for Forever Now, a line which celebrates Gucci’s 90-year heritage.

Chocolate’s created a purse that’s as pretty as a picture with the Sevina.

The oversized velvet bow acts as a cherry on top of this simply shaped cross-body. It might be overly flamboyant, but strip it away and the Sevina would be too easy to overlook. Chocolate’s tempered its effect somewhat by choosing gentle hues like soft gray and mellow taupe, but there’s still no ignoring the feminine feature.

The bow suckers us in but the Sevina’s clever design keeps us interested. The zippered interior pocket and pair of open pouches is generous for a bag so small. Pairing a magnetic snap with a zipper makes the Sevina doubly secure. The strap could stand to be wider, but at least attached to a bag so small it shouldn’t drag on our shoulder.

For me the Sevina’s materials are the biggest disappointment. I have no problem with manmade alternatives to leather in theory, but they shouldn’t be as thin and shiny as this synthetic. We expect compromises for $59, but I’d rather splash out on a more polished look.

Carmina Campus, the eco-friendly passion project of fashion royalty Ilaria Venturini Fendi, has released a limited edition collection of bags using parts from classic Mini Roadsters.

The Carmina Campus for Mini collection features 50 unique accessories, including daytime clutch purses and large laptop bags. The purses are crafted from the color samples, material offcuts, and other refuse from the production of the historic convertible car. The British built Mini Roadster was a significant achievement for the label, as it was the company’s first open top two-seater vehicle.

Fendi said he was inspired by the Mini Roadster’s materials, such as “the canvas from the convertible roofs rejected after tests or the small metal plates obtained from scraps of the car body.“

The accessories range is designed to appeal to male and female car enthusiasts and eco warriors alike. It’s impressive the way these bags pay obvious homage to the Mini Roadsters without appearing kitschy. I love the way the clutch features the Mini’s door handle, and the travel tote is crafted from seatbelts and extra upholstery. The interior of each Carmina Campus for Mini bag is embroidered with a unique number to remind us of its exclusivity.

The Carmina Campus for Mini purses aren’t cheap with prices ranging from €350 to €700, but they’re also not unreasonable for such unusual, limited edition items.

Jessica Simpson injects a bit of glitz into bohemian fashion with this Roxy bucket bag.

The Roxy’s open weave gives it a casual air, while allowing the complementary silver lining to peek through. Jessica Simpson’s synthetic is never luxurious, but when it’s woven together like this is feels a bit richer. Roxy undoes a bit of that hard work with the wide stripe which circles the bag though. It looks cheap, and it drags the rest of the bag down.

I’m also not a fan of the drawstring, although its tasseled ends suit the Roxy’s bohemian style. The closure is just a bit messy, and it overcomplicates an already busy purse. A hidden clasp would have really helped the woven finish shine. I could forgive its more readily if it was more useful, but as a security feature it’s lacking. It doesn’t hold fast, yet it’s fiddly to use. A magnetic snap would have been much smarter.

The Roxy’s silver color isn’t to my tastes, but I can see it attracting many fans. It looks a bit brassy, but it’s also a great way to add some shine to your every day.

The Roxy isn’t Jessica Simpson’s best bag, but at $55.99 it doesn’t have to be. For that price bargain hunters won’t mind making a few compromises.
