Wouldn’t it be nice to be a celeb, able to afford not just one purse from your favorite designer, but 15? Her handbag collection may not rival Lily Allen’s just yet, but British television presenter Fearne Cotton is well on her way.

Mulberry is her designer of choice, and it seems she just can’t get enough!

“Mulberry is my favourite handbag brand and I probably have 15 of them,” the self-confessed shopalic admitted to Heat magazine. “I love their Bayswater bag – I’ve just ordered a new leopard-print one – and then a couple of those little Mables, some of their big carriers and some luggage.”

But don’t think the TV host is simply frivolous in her purchases. She assures us that they’re simply investments!

“I use my expensive bags everyday and they still look brand new. I think they are such a nice thing to pass down.”

Not that she’s admitted letting any go just yet!

The traditional approach means this purse doesn’t make quite the impression the brand’s other bags do, but that might be part of its appeal. Our clutches can’t be showstoppers all the time, particularly when wearing a particularly daring dress with a plunging neckline!

The design is vintage all the way, from the structured silver case to the glimmering rhinestone clasp. Priced at $42, you’re never going to expect genuine crocodile. Thankfully though, this embossed synthetic is more convincing than many mock crocs.

The solid case is both a blessing and a curse. I love the look, but storage space is really compromised by that long, curved design. I’m also not sure I’d want my cell phone or loose coins rattling around in that hard space. A little fabric lining can only do so much after all. Perhaps you’d better take along a man with deep pockets if you hope to carry this clutch on a night out!

It might be a delicious shade of orange, but this clutch will be more versatile than you think. That’s especially true if you favor party dresses of just one color, as it’d really pop against any shade. If you’re still concerned though, the clutch is also available in red, a more sedate “Calla” forest green, and ebony.

If you’re going to lay down a few hundred dollars for a handbag, I tend to think it should be either something completely stunning that you can’t live without or a classic style that will go with nearly everything. You might as well get your money’s worth, either with lots of attention or plenty of use.

This Elliott Lucca Pascale Shopper bag falls into the latter of those two categories. It’s not shocking or overly unique, but for several hundred bucks, you’ll be pleased with both the quality and versatility of this tote.

The Pascale’s buttery soft leather is what you’d expect from this caliber of brand. The wide woven effect gives it some texture and depth. It’s also a nice, modern variation on the traditional tight weave we see from labels like Bottega Veneta and Cole Haan.

The double braided handles have a decent drop, though some might wish for a little more length on a shopper bag of this size. It’s not an enormous handbag, but one with enough space for everyday use with a little room for extras. Magnetic closures, though maybe not the most secure way to store things, make it super easy to access the interior.

Slouchy relaxed leather is a hobo trademark, and this purse delivers on that score. But by keeping the design simple, this Lucky Brand bag is more sophisticated than most of its hippie-chic peers. There are no fringes or fanciful features; just a little complementary whipstitching running down the sides.

This decorative stitching is also found on the handle, which is crafted from a lovely contrasting leather. The strap seems short at first glance, but the top of the bag dips low enough that over-the-shoulder carrying won’t be a problem.

The British sisters behind Angel Jackson are bringing their distinctive handbags and matching belts to the United States. It’s a move that’s sure to please fashionistas on the lookout for something different and the brand’s legions of celebrity admirers.

Liz Claiborne epitomizes cheap and cheerful fashion with the Ripley tote.

It doesn’t get much cheerier than the feminine coral pink finish, or much cheaper than PVC. High-end fashionistas may scoff at this fabric, but it only costs $34. If that’s all you’ve got to spare, or you simply want a little more cash in your purse, that price is a major selling point. PVC may not be as durable as leather, but it’s got all the shine of a genuine patent in the short term.

But it’s not just the price that impresses. This is one very cute tote. The angular shape gives it a more youthful appearance than the traditional boxy style. The coral shade could be accused of being a little wishy-washy, but the black contrast stitching gives it some definition and a little more edge.

Totes are an everyday accessory, and this one has just enough space meet that challenge. It’s smaller than many totes on the market, but it’s refreshing to carry something that’s large enough for everything you need and nothing else. It also has plenty of pockets: two in front, and another large one inside. But security concerns me. Not one of these pockets comes with a zip, clasp, or any other closure. The main compartment has a hidden magnetic stud, but it’s not as safe as a zipper might be. The small compartments on the sides have zippered closures, but they’re too deep and narrow to be usable.

The handles are also a little disappointing, with a drop of just six inches. They’ll fit snugly on your shoulder, but that’s never comfortable for too long. A little extra length would have made all the difference.

It’s not flawless, and it’ll never last as long as your Pradas or your Guccis, but this Ripley tote is a great stop-gap measure until the financial crisis is over.

Now this is what I call a clutch. Though there are plenty of other pretty options or functional versions of the handbag style, this Treesje Harlow is the total package to me.

With a classic shape, unique details, and a decent size, you really won’t be lacking anything with the Harlow. I’m sure there are plenty of women who would prefer a smaller size or a different color, but this one will suit perfectly those shoppers who seek out contemporary styles with a vintage twist.

It almost seems to contrast what I’m used to seeing from Treesje, which tends to favor modern designs and details. However, it does have that ideal blend of simple with unexpected features, which I always expect from the designer label.

The non-uniform ruching along the front and back of the clutch gives the bag a wonderful sense of movement. On either side of the carefree ruching, mid-sized chain link grounds the handbag and keeps it from looking out of control. The strips of leather woven throughout the chain is a bonus detail that only adds to the effect.

The only complaint I have with the Harlow clutch is the price. I’m not at all surprised by its $385 price tag considering the quality and popularity of the brand; I’m just not sure how many people want to drop that much cash for this type of bag right now. On the other hand, for this sort of timeless clutch that will take you easily from day to night, it’s probably worth it. As of right now, it’s marked down quite a bit from the retail price, which makes it even more worthy of a second look.
