Comme des Garçons has come together with Apple Corps Ltd. for a rocking handbag collection. The London-based firm that manages the legacy and musical catalog of The Beatles has approved a purse line paying homage to the iconic British band.

Apple Corps Ltd. has signed a long-term deal with Comme des Garçons, so it seems likely that company head Rei Kawakubo will release other Beatles fashion items in the coming months.

It’s a smart move for the Japanese fashion label, with The Beatles albums still selling truckloads long after the band called it quits. When you think of key figures in rock and roll history, they don’t come much bigger than The Beatles.

The first purse styles are scheduled to hit Dover Street Market in London and Gyre in Tokyo in the middle of November. The bags will then be rolled out into other markets after that. Details are scarce at the moment, but with Comme des Garçons behind the line I’m not expecting the Beatles bags to be cheap!

This Verbella tote from Bally is just the thing for adding a dose of vintage sass to your wardrobe.

The front features a retro Bernard Villemot illustration of two sexy girls with knowing smiles and longer than long legs! It’s reminiscent of the kind of art we’d expect to see in pre-war Parisian ads: saucy and oh so chic. The purple fabric contrasts with polished black patent belts, straps, and trim. If you prefer a more unified look, you can pick up the Verbella in classic black.

But a tote is about more than just good looks. Bally delivers some of the practical touches we’ve come to expect, from the hard-wearing jacquard lining to all that luxurious space. I only wish the brand had considered security. There’s no closure, and not even a zippered pocket to hide away valuables. I’m also not sure about those straps. The patent leather is attractive, but they’re just so short and skinny. I’m not sure whether they’d ever snap, but they are bound to dig into your palms when the tote’s loaded up.

You may not use it for carrying the crown jewels, or want to carry it all day, but the Bally Verbella is a quirky solution for toting your everyday items.

Luxury brand Hermes seems to be riding over the wave of economic crisis with only a mere splash or two of disturbance. Somehow this label is defying the odds in a fashion industry that is simply trying to tread water.

With new stores and pop-up boutiques opening, Hermes continues to expand thanks to promising profits. It is furthering its fashion expansion with a new acquisition. Apparently, the brand is in the process or purchasing an auspicious location on the corner of London’s reputable Bond Street.

The location is currently occupied by struggling luxury jewelry and accessories brand Asprey. Hermes will obtain the building and maybe even the business. Hermes wasn’t the only luxury brand with its eyes on the advantageous spot though. Chanel reportedly had an interest in the London location before Hermes beat them to it.

Although acquiring Asprey’s building sounds like a smart move and right up a booming label’s alley, I’d be somewhat surprised to hear a confirmation of Hermes taking over more than Asprey’s current housing on Bond Street. I suppose we’ll have to wait to find out if the second part of the rumor is true or not.

Ghibli brings its luxury leather styling to an altogether cuter plane, with this kitsch and sexy purse.

Much simpler than the designer’s normal python leather bags, this little patent evening bag is a great party purse with a funky 50s vibe. That said, the over-sized red patent bow also has something of an 80s feeling, meaning that this is both on trend and kitsch in equal measure.

The cute and simple styling does actually conceal a surprisingly spacious handbag. They have built in a subtle pocket on the reverse and a large central pouch, all in the same ruby red shade. The slight slouch of this girlie purse really does work in its favor in terms of space!

Unfortunately whilst Ghibli did think of functionality with this patent clutch, they didn’t necessarily think very hard. After all, there is no handle, optional or not, for you to use if you don’t feel like clutching in all night. This is a shame, as this cute handbag could have happily taken you from dinner right through to the next morning.

Perforated leather, in my opinion, can either go really well or look a little off on a purse. Personally, I tend to prefer it as a detail rather than the main material of the handbag body, but this Just Cavalli Flower Bag’s use of the feature has me intrigued.

The small perforations that cover the entire purse lend a very casual feel to the Flower Bag. Its slouchy silhouette adds to the everyday style and could probably be classified as a large hobo. There’s an almost sporty appeal to the super soft material.

The matching leather flower detail on one side of the handle is a tad puzzling to me, but it provides a nice contrast to an otherwise lack of overt femininity to this Just Cavalli handbag. The cream color is neutral but a little delicate. Perhaps the black leather option has a harder edge that complements the girly versus sporty look.

If you like the holey leather but aren’t digging the floral detail, don’t dismiss this Flower Bag. The leather flower is actually detachable, allowing you to add or remove the feminine feature depending on your mood or outfit. Just Cavalli might be a youth line for Roberto Cavalli, but it’s not inexpensive. This perforated hobo handbag retails for $595.

Chloe’s fall line has thus far disappointed me. But, perhaps it’s due to my own expectations. I don’t really associate Chloe with a neutral color palette or uptown styling, but that seems to be what the label’s up to lately.

This opulent gold take on a classic look is very Blair Waldorf. It isn’t even close to my style, but I think it’s one of the most perfect ultra-preppy accessories I’ve seen in a long time.

The shape is feminine and refined, and the size is big enough to carry what you might need in a day, but still small enough to look dainty. The huge gold turnlock fastening adds the perfect amount of bling to the front of the bag, and the chain straps add to the delicate, sweet look.

This would be a great office bag for an uptown girl, or even a downtown girl who wants to add a touch of refinement to her wardrobe.

Baby Phat is never a brand that does things by halves. Accessories like this Mystical Mirror bag may be a little ostentatious for many bagistas, but fans of Kimora Lee Simmons’ blingtastic label are sure to lap it up.

I’m not sure whether you could use this silvery satchel to touch up your cosmetics, but it’s the metallic finish which gives the Mystical Mirror its name. Silver synthetic doesn’t need any more accents, but of course Kimora Lee includes them anyway. The signature kitty cat logo is surrounded by a plethora of rhinestones. Add a smattering of tiny silver studs and tasseled zipper pulls and you’ve got one very busy look.

It’s a shame, because the interior delivers everything I’d want in an everyday satchel. Sure, I’d probably need sunglasses to look at the hot pink lining, but it’s also kind of fun. But I’m more interested in all that space and the zip and slip pockets for keeping precious cargo organized.

This is the kind of handbag you’ll either love or hate. It’s not my cup of chai, but I’m sure plenty of purse lovers will adore its big, brash, style.

Gossip Girl and Mercy star Michelle Trachtenberg has teamed up with luxury label Botkier to create this sexy blue satchel. A portion of proceeds from the sale of the Michelle will benefit Oxfam International, a charity which helps the world’s poorest.

The subtle slouch comes from the buttery soft Italian lambskin finish. Vertical belting, braided handles, and pyramid studs give the satchel a very of-the-moment look. But it’s practical too, with plenty of interior space and pockets inside and out. The straps are a little shorter than I’d like, so I’m thrilled to see the longer, detachable, shoulder strap.

The Michelle has some on-trend features, but enough classic styling to give it a timeless appeal. That’s much like Michelle Trachtenberg’s own style! I can imagine this bag looking killer with a favorite pair of jeans and a cute T-shirt with a rock band logo.

The Michelle will hit stores this November. It’s mid-priced for a Botkier bag with a retail value of $545.

Bold bagistas and girls preferring to play it safe have something to smile about with B. Makowsky’s Phoenix tote. You can get it loud in lipstick red or maize yellow, or opt for a more conservative look with subtle stone or sage green.

Colors aside, this tote strikes the balance between contemporary and classic. The shape is modern, and a welcome change from all those bland boxy totes. Complementary stitching follows the bag’s sleek lines, and skirts the side of the long angular zips. Along with the silver strap hardware they bring a little edge, adding character without overwhelming the design.

Pop open the magnetic closure to reveal the Phoenix’s large, leopard-print lined, interior. A large zippered envelope separates the bag into three sections. There’s a smaller zippered pocket in the side wall, and a couple of slip pouches to hold the latest gadgets. The functional space is finished off with a handy key hook.

While it’s got the looks and space of an everyday bag, I’m not sure I’d trust it as my go-to purse. Many bagistas have complained about the leather, particularly the straps, looking cracked and worn before long. So handle it with care and reserve it for special occasions if you hope to get more than a season from the Phoenix.
