It seems like every handbag brand has its take on the woven trend. But they don’t all have to cost the prices of a Bottega Venetta. At $430, Linea Pelle’s Juliana represents great value.

The price might not be exactly cheap and cheerful, but it’s entirely reasonable for a woven purse crafted from washed Italian lambskin. Using such a soft skin allows Linea Pelle to create an incredibly intricate weave that is really quite stunning. That delicate finish combines with a relaxed slouchy profile to create a bag ready to make the transition from day to night.

The generous sized interior is organized with a large zippered pocket and multifunctional slip. Two smaller slip pouches would have been a more practical choice, as they’d snugly hug a cell phone and MP3 player. I’m really not sure what I’d use this large open pocket for, as things are bound to simply slip out into the main compartment. At least there’s a zip top closure to keep your goodies safe when they do!

In time-honored shades like black and tobacco brown, the Juliana is bound to become a wardrobe staple.

The Northern Hemisphere is preparing for winter snow, but the fashion world is already setting its sights on summer. Gucci takes us there with this vibrant advertising campaign for its Cruise 2010 collection.

The commercial takes us to the Mediterranean with its aquamarine pool and the bronzed, toned body of Ryan Kennedy. Photography’s dynamic duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have captured his rugged masculinity, which contrasts with the softer curves of Natasha Poly and Snejana Onopka. This is one pool party I’d love to attend!

Frida Giannini’s Cruise collection is dominated by retro styling inspired by 1970s cinema. Think floral prints, navy blue and white tones, and clothes that are cut to flatter your curves. It’s quite a change from the fluorescent 80s shades that dominated last summer, and one I predict will have a lot more staying power.

Before winter’s even hit, this gorgeous ad has me craving summer sunshine. Perhaps a trip to the Caribbean is in order?

Kitschy minaudieres from designers like Kathrine Baumann and Timmy Woods are certainly unique but not exactly what I picture spending hard-earned cash on for this type of ornamental jewelry-like bag. Swarovski-encrusted Barbie heads and shiny Santa faces might be quirky and whimsical but aren’t necessarily my style.

The debut line of luxury minaudiere cases from label Tamlin & The Fall is more up my alley, though. The capsule collection includes three truly luxurious and contemporary designs. The sculptural shapes include cases inspired by the egg, the crystal, and the shell.

Each one is handcrafted and made with over a pound of precious metal. Feathers and hammered-chain add sophisticated detail to these minaudieres. The luxury doesn’t end with the outside, though. For example, the egg shape opens to reveal an alligator lining. Now that’s what I call opulence to the core.

Precious metal and exotic skin always comes with a high cost, however, and these Tamlin & The Fall designs are no exception. The prices of these one-of-a-kind minaudiere cases starts at just over $19,000. If only I had that kind of money to spend on such an accessory.

With the winter holiday season rapidly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about the perfect party accessories. Glittery clutches are always appropriate for dressy holiday events, and any of Santi’s options are sure to make a statement.

This Santi Blake clutch, with its black and silver pattern and shimmering body, reminds me quite a bit of the Whiting & Davis Chevron Jelly Roll bag. Although Whiting & Davis’s creation is made from metal mesh and Santi favors sequins and satin, the patterns on the two handbags are strikingly similar.

I’m not sure that sequins are the best option since they aren’t known for being particularly sturdy. The metal mesh on the Chevron Jelly Roll might be a better option for durability. However, Santi’s clutches aren’t cheaply made, and the Blake will most likely hold up just fine with light use during special events.

Although slim in design, this Santi bag is a decent size for a party clutch since bare necessities are all that’s required. There’s even a handy optional chain strap that tucks in neatly when not in use. I prefer the look of this sequined clutch without the strap, but it’s nice to have the option available.

Gwen Stefani’s fashion line is known for its cute and kitsch designs, and this little cosmetics purse is nothing different.

Subtle and sophisticated this line is not! It allows you to have fun with a bag without feeling silly or immature. Whilst handbags often need to look smart for work, you can play around with your cosmetics purse, and cute is the way to go!

Available in a number of adorable designs, there should be something for everyone, with preppies, sweet lovers and more each catered for in colorful fun designs. Of course, as with any pattern that is this busy and fun, you may tire of the print quite quickly.

Lauren Merkin purses are red carpet favorites, but with the Tatum she’s created a clutch that’s more rock and roll than Hollywood glamor.

The secret is the patent leather finish, which is given an extra dose of attitude with bold mock croc embossing. The finish isn’t likely to fool anybody into thinking you’ve snared a genuine exotic, but I’m not sure it’s meant to. Rather than imitate the real deal, Lauren Merkin creates a cool, modern texture with her scaly skin. We’ve seen the Tatum’s pleated shape before in raffia, but this modern polished finish makes the purse seem like an entirely different breed!

It’s certainly not an oversized clutch, but there’s enough space inside for party essentials. Just be sure not to cram in more than the Tatum can easily carry. The thick patent leather is bound to show bumps and bulges if pushed beyond capacity.

This orange Tatum is the most outrageous of the range, but I think it suits the purse’s punk-rock personality. Black has the same rock and roll edge, although it’s taken down a notch. If this still screams too loud, you might like to opt for the subdued gray clutch.

Unless you told me that this was a La Regale handbag, I’d never have known. The brand normally favors minimalist, classic designs, but this vintage purse offers something else!

Traditional embroidery works with glitzy colored beads and sequins to create this tapestry design. The floral motif reminds me of the kind of pattern you might spot on a cushion in your grandmother’s sitting room. That does make it authentically vintage I suppose, but I prefer my old-world fashions to be a little more rooted in modern styles. This busy design looks a little stodgy to me.

The antique appearance is only emphasized by the colored beads which form the dual handles. If it was your cup of Earl Grey, I suppose you’ll like the extra splash of vintage. For me it’s simply too much, not to mention a little impractical.

If you’ve fallen for the look, the interior isn’t likely to change your mind. The satiny lining is lush, and the handy pocket for cards and cash is a little more than we might expect in an evening bag. You’ll also find enough space for your lipstick, and a compact for powdering your nose!

I worry about beads and sequins going astray in time, but at least this La Regale evening purse won’t break the bank. At $80 retail, this La Regale offers something a little different for vintage fashion fans.

This Gustto Torsa Tote shares a similar design feature with the Bonba Clutch from the same brand. However, the practicality of the Torsa’s larger size and multiple carrying options makes it a better choice for an everyday handbag.

The feature that the two bags share is the softly twisted strips of leather that flank a center panel on the front. From afar, the detail kind of has a fish gill appearance to it but not in an unappealing way. It’s a look that you certainly don’t see on other brands. My only hesitation would be that I might accidentally snag one of those delicate twisted strips on something, especially with the feature being on a larger scale (no pun intended) on the Torsa.

It’s an impressive design, though, and even more unique when paired with the double circular handles that loop through the top. Of course, ring handles are very rarely practical since most of the time you can only carry them in their hands. Thank goodness for the optional shoulder strap that is included. I’m guessing that the majority of people would choose that carrying method for using the Torsa on a regular basis.

Luxurious leather, quality details, and suede lining don’t come without a price, however. This Gustto is priced at a whopping $790, which is not inconsistent with the label’s higher end styles. The rosy pink shade picture here is not traditionally a versatile color but definitely one that sets the tote apart even more.

But why would anyone want a solar-powered bag, you ask? It’s simple. Gadget lovers can charge up their cell phones, Kindles, and PDAs anywhere, any time. What a great idea for girls on the go!

The revolutionary solar-powered cells are light and bendable, so they’re ideal the manufacture of canvas bag. Under sunny conditions, the bags can charge a cell phone in around four hours, while it could take as many as 12 hours indoors. The solar panels aren’t as efficient as silicon ones, but they’re much cheaper and easier to manufacture. Mascotte then pass those savings on to its customers.

Mascotte currently sells solar-powered knapsacks and business travel bags for between $100 and $300. That seems pricey at first, but they’re only between $25 and $40 more than Mascotte’s ordinary bags. Now the brand just needs some style pointers. Once they start producing cute girly totes, I’ll snap one up.

Eco-Friendly Bags on eBay

Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. label shows it knows how to have fun with this Williamsfield Tote.

The front of the tote sports the image of a very regal looking lamb. The crowned cutie only adorns the front, but the chain link design wraps around the back. There’s also another tiny gold sheep. It’s those little details that save the rear from being a boring plain black.

In my opinion, this adorable print has just the right amount of whimsy, but some may accuse it of being juvenile. That’s no matter. The Williamsfield is also available in a more abstract sheep pattern, and the same blue on black print we saw on the Rowland Mini Doctor Satchel.

Aside from the adorable print, this tote is fairly standard. The shape and size are nothing out of the ordinary, although I do appreciate the longer than average shoulder straps.

L.A.M.B’s familiar black and white striped fabric lines the generous interior. I like the way the bag’s been organized, with both zip and slip pockets sitting on the one wall. By keeping those small items in the same place, it’s bound to save busy girls time.

The $295 retail price seems a little steep for a bag that’s only got a dash of leather trim. We’ve seen many bag brands deliver high-quality synthetics for much less than this. But its unique print is likely to convince Gwen Stefani fans and animal lovers to splurge on this tote.
