Balenciaga breaks with tradition with this Whistle Handbag. The label’s typical bold hardware and long tassels are gone, replaced with luxury leathers and a slouchy barrel shape.

The name comes from the shiny engraved whistle which hangs from the bag. Unlike so many gimmicks, this small whistle is endearing rather than obnoxious. It makes me think I could instantly alert passersby the moment I was threatened in a dark alley, or perhaps be a sexy police officer ready to halt a crime in progress!

The Whistle comes in a range of fabrics, from this luxury combination of lambskin with exotic trim, a lush goatskin, or the more casual (and less expensive) canvas variety. Unzip the top to reveal a generous lined interior. The shape reminds me of a gym bag, and there’s probably the space to use it for just that. I just couldn’t put my stinky trainers in anything so luxurious! I only wish there were the organizational features to match. A lone zippered pocket just isn’t enough to keep such a large space in order.

A favorite with celebs like Katie Holmes, the Whistle bag is something a little different from Balenciaga.

As far as black leather satchels go, this one is nearly as simple as they come. I wouldn’t exactly call it as dull as dishwater, as they say, but there’s really not much about it that jumps out as extremely interesting.

Being a Hobo International design, you know that the Suzzette Satchel is going to be well-made and crafted from genuine leather, which is a definite appeal. However, it’s not going to win any awards for originality or attract any shoppers who are looking for a statement piece.

The rounded shape is nice and somewhat contemporary. I’d even go as far as to call the Suzzette sleek and streamlined because of its lack of extra details besides handle rings.

The significant depth of the handbag is great for storage, but some might consider it a drawback since it could make the purse seem bulky against the body. The interior is quite practical, though, with two separate zippered compartments and a couple of smaller pockets.

If you’re looking for a very simple style in a classic, versatile handbag color, the Suzzette will serve you well. Those looking for something original might want to stick with some of Hobo International’s other designs like the Solano Tote.

This Giuseppe Zanotti brown leather purse proves that you can have a bit of glitz and glamour in a purse without having to go over the top. Balancing the incredibly luxurious leather with a touch of crystal glamour requires some serious design expertise, as you don’t want that incredibly supple leather to go unnoticed.

I personally think that when it comes to how this square clutch looks, Giuseppe Zanotti has really hit the nail on the head. The scattered crystals glimmer but don’t overpower, and the brown shade is unusual enough to make it stand out in a sea of boring chestnut or black. I do wish, however, that the designers had concealed the zip a bit more; if you are paying a lot for a purse, you need those extra special touches. And this bag, at $650, definitely counts as a lot!

The lining of this clutch is a little low key, in a simple beige shade with a simple signature pattern. A dark or contrasting lining would be nice, but I presume the brand wanted to keep the looks classy, calm and sophisticated.

I normally throw my support behind any new eco-friendly bags, but I must admit that this Baggu line has me scratching my head.

The brand has taken its popular reusable shopper and added a president. I’m not quite sure who would want to carry a shopper with the screen printed face of Abraham Lincoln on it, but those patriotic history lovers are sure to be pleased.

Like all Baggu bags, this limited edition Lincoln shopper is made from ripstop nylon. This fabric is lightweight, and guaranteed not to tear when carrying cans and other groceries weighing up to 25 pounds. It big enough to hold the equivalent of two or three plastic bags, but folds up into a 5 x 5 inch pouch, so you can stash it away in your handbag or pocket. Supermarket spills are no problem, as this Baggu bag is machine washable.

At $12, this Baggu bag works out to be more expensive than the brand’s typical multipacks. But it is a little more fun than the traditional single-color options.

Acclaimed photographer Steven Klein shot the ads in New York last week, and the designers say they’re thrilled with the “simply beautiful” images of Madge.

“To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true,” designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana added.

This isn’t the first time the talented trio has worked together. D&G were behind the costumes Madonna used for her Girlie Show in 2003 and last year’s Sticky & Sweet tour. I don’t expect anything quite so outrageous for Dolce & Gabbana’s next collection; the fashions have to be worn by mere mortals after all. Yet Dolce & Gabbana has a habit of surprising us, so you just never know!

London-based fashion designer Giles Deacon has been impressing the critics since his debut in 2004 with a quirky mix of luxury quality and whimsical details. As he has worked his way into ready-to-wear apparel available at places like Barneys and Nordstrom, there have been a few collaborations along the way.

Is this is wallet, a coin purse or a clutch? Perhaps it is a little makeup bag, or simply a storage pouch? This square little purse is quite a mystery, and it is confusing me!

Regarding looks, it is actually quite a nice break from the norm to see something this undecorated. The bright blue or silver color stands out for itself and doesn’t need to be adorned. A little bit of function is added by the simple tied zip pull, but other than that there are no fancy features or special additions.

So, what we are left with is a small, elegant square pouch, with no interior or exterior pockets and no buttons, nor bells and whistles. In essence, this is a totally, utterly versatile square of leather, great for holding your phone, or your jewelery, or even accompanying you on a night out.

As for what it is? I think you might have to decide that yourself!
