Yes, at first glance this is just yet another metal mesh bag from mesh experts, Whiting & Davis. It is hard to get wildly excited about another clutch that follows the same traditional slouchy metallic shape with a formal frame clasp.

If you ignore the Whiting & David heritage, however, and see this bag as a pretty purse in its own right, then it doesn’t feel quite so “samey.” After all, the majority of bags on the market are still leather, so it is nice to see one that still lets you have a black bag with a metallic twist.

Especially nice, and proof of the company’s metal expertise, is the matte vs. shiny striping. As well as being visually pleasing for you to look at, it adds a certain art deco vibe that goes down well with plenty of smart evening outfits. The glam metal probably makes it too over-the-top for day wear, so at a posh event or urban club night this will look great.

Whiting & Davis are always great at adding in a handle to make your delicate clutch more functional. However, the handle added into this purse is in a chunky chain, which doesn’t work well with the light and feminine mesh pattern.

If you want a traditional mesh purse with a modern style, this purse will do you well, although it won’t revolutionize handbag design at all!

Bulga delivers a glitzy glamourpuss of a purse in the Misa hobo.

While it’s called a hobo, it doesn’t have the crescent shape or boho feel we associate with these type of bags. Sure it’s slouchy, but so are a lot of purses. In fact, the Misa bears a striking resemblance to the De Beber satchel! But while the De Beber is smart and sensible, the Misa is a party animal. Snakeskin is never a shy print, and the shiny silver color only adds to the effect. It’s safe to say this will be too loud for many, but it’s still bound to have its admirers.

The thing I love most about the Misa is that, unlike many other showy bags, it doesn’t forget about the practical perks. Two round zippered pouches sit side by side, giving the purse that motorcycle feel it shares with the De Beber. The addition of pockets to that loud fabric could easily have become confused, but by keeping the satchel’s shape simple and the embellishments at bay it works well.

The zippered entry with its braided pull opens to reveal a space which is generous, but not overwhelming. It may have been considered large once upon a time, but today it’s probably regarded as medium. Whatever the case, it’s big enough to carry your daily must-haves without weighing you down. That’s a good thing too, because the stiff too-short straps don’t make carrying easy.

If you’re a disco queen this glittering hobo may be right up your alley.

We can look forward to many more gorgeous handbags and nutty comments from Chanel creative director and famous egomaniac Karl Lagerfeld. One of fashion’s most colorful characters told Germany’s Freundin magazine he has no plans for retirement.

“Retirement is not one of the topics with which I deal. Why should I? I still have so many projects that I sometimes don’t know where to begin. Chanel will still need some clothes when I’m 89,” he said.

Of course I’m sure someone else could design those clothes if Karl were to step down, but it’s not surprising to hear he doesn’t entertain that thought!

There must be something about Chanel that compels folks to stick around. Coco Chanel never retired, so it’s fitting that Karl Lagerfeld is planning to do the same thing. He’s already got 27 years under his belt, and he’s showing no signs of becoming stiff or stale. So why not continue the legacy? Heaven knows any replacement would have some very big shoes to fill!

I’ve seen so many woven handbags from Bottega Veneta that they’re almost starting to get boring. So I was excited to see this very different looking purse from the Italian fashion house.

It’s not just a new look for Bottega Veneta. The Cushion Bag looks like no bag I’ve ever seen more, and when you see as many handbags as I do that’s really saying something. There are many different Cushion Bag styles in Bottega Veneta’s catalog, but the one that’s really won my heart is the Mosaico Cervo. The name comes from the embroidered leather finish which looks like tiny mosaic tiles. The tiles sit close together on the sides of the bag, before becoming scattered haphazardly along the top. The texture makes it hard to look away, so don’t be surprised if you turn a few heads carrying this baby.

The bag opens with two zips positioned between the rolled shoulder straps. I wish the zipper didn’t extend quite so far, as it interrupts the purse’s sexy curves, but it does mean you can open the cushion bag wide. A leather trimmed zipper pocket and an open pouch help keep your girly goods in order.

Bottega Veneta purses never come cheap, and this stunning cushion bag is no exception. At $4,380, this is one expensive piece of arm candy, but that shouldn’t come as any surprise to those who worship at the Bottega Veneta alter.

Claudia Schiffer’s modeling career is still in full swing with advertising campaigns for Salvatore Ferragamo and Chanel, but that’s not stopping her from venturing into a new branch of her fashion career.

After years of showcasing other designers’ goods, Schiffer recently revealed an interest in launching her own fashion brand. She certainly wouldn’t be the first supermodel to try her hand at designing, following in the successful footsteps of Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson.

The 39-year old beauty is reportedly considering including handbags and some sort of cashmere apparel in her new line and is looking for business partners to support the venture. Schiffer recently stated, however, that the most important part of the process is keeping the products meaningful to her:

“I want the brand to be timeless and classic, with a fashion sensibility … Consumers are not stupid. They do understand if you don’t believe in your product,” she said.

Don’t think that creating handbags and cashmere are going to keep her from posing for the camera, though. This is one supermodel who has no plans to quit her day job any time soon.

Though you won’t get super high quality materials, this brand has some really nice options for dressy accessories under $50. This Crystal Stone Clutch might not live up to the standards of other jeweled handbags, but the $43 price tag and simple design are worth considering when your pocketbook is calling for cutbacks.

The design is basically a simple fabric zippered pouch with silver and black manmade jewels sewn on in a random pattern. I actually really like the somewhat haphazard layout of the stones. It detracts from the quality of the actual jewels, and the interesting pattern fits right in with current trends. It’s too bad that the feature doesn’t continue on the back, but that’s not completely unexpected for this type of purse.

As with most budget-friendly bags, I wouldn’t take this one through too much use or you might see some wear and tear on it, especially with the sewn-on stones. However, since it’s meant to function as an evening bag, which is only required occasionally, that probably won’t pose much of an issue.

Finding a cross-body purse that can fit more than a wallet and keys can be challenging, but Botkier has stepped up to fill the fashion void with the Taylor.

This bohemian styled satchel is crafted from buttery soft Italian lambskin for that hobo-style slouch. Tiny pinched pleats create stripes from the top to the base. Thin, sparse tassels hang down to create a hippie vibe which is a little more sophisticated than heavy fringing can be.

The exterior doesn’t feature any obvious branding, instead preferring to let the gold logo plate and signature lining inside do the talking. The zippered pocket and single cell phone slip probably aren’t quite enough to keep a space of this size properly organized, but I’m willing to forgive that little misstep.

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale should be able to afford most trinkets that catch her eye, but the 24-year-old star is still working on her Christmas wish list. Her most wanted item this year? A new purse of course!

“I love handbags, so I’m hoping for a new handbag,” she told media at Bauer Publishing’s M magazine Hollywood Halloween party in New York City recently.

In the tradition of Valentino’s Rose handbags comes this more affordable, yet far less luxurious, Big Buddha Mia bag.

If your budget can stretch, I’d pass this one over for the Valentino alternative. While the rose is just as flirty and feminine, the stiff synthetic doesn’t fall as softly as an authentic leather would. The snakeskin finish is also a little too garish for this already heavily decorated look. While the colors are sedate, a plain fabric would have made the large ruffled flower appear a little more elegant.

But it’s not all bad news. The traditional domed satchel shape maximizes the space available, while pockets inside and out help your belongings stay organized. The curved carrying handles are cute, but they’d be a little awkward to use once your satchel’s loaded up. That’s when the longer strap comes into play, allowing you to sling the Mia over your shoulder or across your entire body.

I may prefer the similar Valentino purse, but not everyone can afford to drop a few thousand dollars on a satchel. At just $85 the Mia does a fairly credible impersonation of the more expensive accessory.
