The color on this Bally Mayla hobo might be incredibly neutral, but it’s actually the feature that first caught my eye on the bag despite a bevy of other distinct details. Some might call it boring or too understated, but I happen to think it’s that perfect blend of neutral with a hint of saturation that gives it a little something extra.

However, the taupe-ish “hay” tone isn’t the only color available for the Mayla. This hobo also comes in a gorgeous, rich shade of blue that Bally terms “tempest.” Though I like the neutral for its versatility, the deep blue might be more appealing to women who are looking for something a little more unique.

For most, the standout feature of the Mayla will probably be the interesting ruched effect that covers nearly every inch of the purse. It could be overwhelming, but somehow Bally has made it trendy but also classic due to pretty gold hardware that adds a sophisticated note to the style.

The braided strap is pretty; however, double straps might have suited the size of the hobo a bit better. This slouchy designer handbag closes with a clasp that flaps over the top and retails for $1,150.

Handbags don’t have to be fancy, as this simple Marc Jacobs Classic Q purse proves.

This basic wristlet from the Marc range does have some embellishments on its rectangular form. The cute signature monogrammed panel adds an area to focus on, whilst the little bit of ruching works to break up the plain leather front. It isn’t particular exciting, but it does make this surprisingly expensive little purse at least slightly interesting.

Classic is often code for boring, and it is true that the Classic Q  doesn’t break any boundaries. Inside, however, your functional little bag has a lovely Marc Jacobs lining in monochrome black and white. This does add a frisson more interest, making a traditional purse a little more worthwhile.

A basic purse made with luxury materials, this is perhaps a wristlet for those who can afford it!

Have a break from the norm for the upcoming year with this unusual J. Renee Lindy purse.

OK, so a white pearlescent handbag will always have a little hint of wedding fashion to it. But if you have a classic Chanel-esque outfit then you will know that this can work brilliantly, especially in combination with the gently bobbled surface. Combine this with wools or heavy knits, or opt for a monochrome evening outfit.

The shape of this purse is perhaps the most interesting part. The strange petal-like design, layered and folded, looks like a combination of origami fashion and elegant leather-work. I especially admire how the gold piping defines the shape to make it look as dramatic as possible. I may wish there is a silver version, but one can’t be picky!

Inside this is functional and spacious. They carry on the cream/white theme with a gold monogram, and handy little zipped interior pocket. I am actually impressed by the space, as this J. Renee bag is built to be wide yet pretty.

Some of her designs are questionable (remember the macaw parrot?), but it seems celebrities can’t get enough of Judith Leiber’s purses. In a sign that the financial climate is shifting, Hollywood stars are leaving their affordable Kotur clutches at home and opting for Judith Leiber’s glittering, and pricy, minaudieres.

Natalie Portman recently relied on the Discoball Sphere Clutch to add sparkle to her Gotham Independent Film Awards ensemble. Rachel McAdams was also spotted carrying a dazzling black Judith Leiber purse to the premiere of her latest film, Sherlock Holmes. Slumdog Millionaire star Frieda Pinto, flamboyant pop princess Katy Perry, and British actress Rachel Weisz are also fans of Judith Leiber’s quirky creations.

But it’s all well and good for them. With most Judith Leiber bags costing several thousand dollars, they’re out of the reach of most mere mortals. Word is that many designers will help us get the look for less though. Expect to see more purses featuring sequins, pailettes, and fun animal shapes in department stores in 2010.

The silly season may be over, but silly fashions persist. If you’re still in the mood for something fun and frivolous, look no further than the Aumoniere Evening Bag from Lanvin.

This frothy concoction is a real departure for the brand who brought us such sensible day bags as the Jeanne and Jaismal. But if you can’t have fun after five, when can you? I can imagine the likes of Lady Gaga or Katy Perry carrying the Aumoniere to the Grammys!

It’s certainly different. Pom poms are usually restricted to cutesy winter accessories, but here they’re given a glam makeover with silk taffeta. The combination of electric blue, white, and black is particularly striking. The grosgrain ribbon drawstring looks a little cheap against the taffeta though. A hidden magnetic clasp would have improved the purse’s appearance, and made it a lot less fiddly.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that this isn’t the world’s most practical purse. It’s a decent size, but the single slip pocket really does little to keep your party essentials organized. I suggest slipping a little coin purse inside to make this space more practical.

I know plenty of people are going to hate this purse, but there’s something about it that I can’t resist. One thing’s for sure; it’s definitely not boring!

Little Georgia May Jagger is taking some big leaps in her fashion career right now. She’s stepping out of the shadow of her very famous supermodel mom Jerry Hall and equally legendary father Mick Jagger and making a name for herself.

This pint-sized gal landed Versace’s spring/summer 2010 campaign earlier this fall, and the first shot of the ads is out. What we’re seeing is quite a departure from the luxury label’s fall campaign. Out is Gisele Bundchen with her awkward poses and dark shadows, and in are vibrant colors and patterns.

Okay, so the awkward poses haven’t necessarily gone anywhere as we can see in this particular shot of Jagger. Although the look is completely different from Gisele’s over-the-shoulder wall poses, I can’t say that Georgia May looks any more comfortable here.

What I do love, however, is the addition of pattern and vibrant color. The handbag itself might be black and white, but there’s certainly nothing boring about it. This is exactly the sort of thing I’d expect for the campaign after seeing the colorful “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired collection on the runway.

Versace Handbags on eBay

At first glance, this Melie Bianco Pyramid satchel immediately reminded me of the Steve Madden Tribeca bag. Although the two satchels have individual styles and slightly different designs, the pair has some definite similarities.

The first and most obvious comparison to make between the two handbags is the studded detail across the bottom. What I really like about Melie Bianco’s interpretation of this popular trend is the added visual feature of the studs raised instead of flat or rounded. The pyramid shape of the detail is, in fact, where the satchel gets its name.

One of the other great features of the Pyramid satchel is the detachable, adjustable strap that clips onto the buckles on the sides of the bag. When not in use, the buckles lie flat against the sides by clipping onto small rings near the bottom. Although this leaves the rolled handles to just flap down, but that’s a fairly typical feature of bags that convert to a cross-body style.

The only major negative that I can see with the Pyramid is that fact that the cool rows of studs seen on the front don’t continue to the back. That’s another feature that this Melie Bianco design shares with the Steve Madden Tribeca. Overall, however, I think that the good features, including vibrant color options, trendy details, and classic shape, outweigh that minor detail.

OK, so at first glance this Versace bag looks like a bulky yet formal satchel. Versace, however, believe that the convertible element should be more than enough to convince you to like it!

Whether you need a smart compact backpack, a spacious tote or a functional overnight bag, this purse should suit the purpose. It isn’t particularly simple to convert, but once done the black leather handbags are useful and reasonably good looking.

Unfortunately the combination of large faux crocodile skin and gathered sides mean that much of the time this 4 in 1 purse looks a little chaotic; elegance and sleek structure are not really in its repertoire. For those who long for something slouchy and casual yet designer, however, then this will be right on the money.

All in all this is a functional handbag inside and out. I wouldn’t be happy to pay the original price of over $1000 for it, but at $399 on sale I can understand that those multiple handles will be handy!

If you are looking for a posh purse for a party, then you need look no further than this expensive clutch from Forzieri.

Once you have got over the shock of paying $1190 for a frame evening bag, you can start to look at the aesthetics and not just the price tag. It may be a little too colorful for some, but this multicolor clutch certainly does know how to party! The teardrop pattern on the outside is strangely hippie, as well as being cheery and pretty!

It is a well known fact that the more expensive the little evening bag, the more gems and jewels you get adorning the hard metal body. This is what makes it such a happy glitzy bag, but is bound to be a little too obvious for some. If bling is your thing, however, you may well feel like this rainbow bag is coming home!

Like many other jeweled clutches on the market, the frame body makes for a inflexible storage area. Thankfully this one comes lined and with an optional handle, so if you can fit it in you can carry it, hopefully without damage.

All in all this is a silly and costly purse that is great for people who want to have fun!

It may not have the flair we’ve come to expect from Lambertson Truex, but the practical perks of the Christie make it worth another look.

It’s not that the Christie is a purse lacking in style. The brown leather is elegant and sophisticated, the perfect foil for the gleaming silver Lambertson Truex clasp. The minimalist design is timeless too. The deep pleats are gorgeous, but I’m less convinced by the faux snakeskin trim. Faux snakeskin? On a Lambertson Truex bag? For $1595? I’m not sure why the designer has opted for embossed leather rather than a genuine exotic here, but for the price I expect a lot better.

All is forgiven once you peek inside the Christie though. Its slender good looks are deceiving, because this is really a very roomy space. The dimensions make it perfect for carrying important documents to the office or notebooks to class.

I wish the strap was longer, as only the most petite girls will be able to sling it over their shoulder. Adding a few more inches, or even adding an optional cross-body strap, would make commuting with the Christie so much easier.

The Christie might not inspire the envy of many Lambertson Truex bags, but she’s still a lovely alternative to a stuffy briefcase.
