This ivory beauty is actually crafted from 100% whale skin. That won’t impress animal activists, but remember that it was made in a different time when skins from many now endangered animals were used freely.

The purse features a coordinating whale skin handle, which makes the Kelly easy to carry over your arm or by hand. That stunning pale skin will no doubt need some protection, and the gold feet on the base are happy to oblige. There’s more gold on the spindle clasp which secures the ivory chevre leather lined interior.

Handbag history like this doesn’t come cheaply. Even at less than mint condition, you can expect to pay $7125 for this prized Hermes purse.

Bottega Veneta has created a Russian inspired limited edition clutch to be sold at its Tretjakovskiy Proezd store in Moscow.

The appropriately named Moscow clutch will be made from vivid green intrecciato Ayers snakeskin. The lush design is finished off with an antique gold-finished brass turnlock closure inlaid with malachite to match the snake. The woven exotic delightfully contrasts with the deep purple suede lined interior. A sterling silver plate inside each purse will be inscribed with the edition number and boutique name.

The design calls to mind the malachite furniture and luxury interiors of Imperial Russia. Yet Bottega Veneta gives these influences a contemporary makeover.

“In the four and a half years since we opened our first store in Russia, we have gained many engaged and loyal customers,” explained creative director Tomas Maier. “We wanted to make a bag especially for them. It is one of the pleasures of Bottega Veneta’s mode of production that we can design and produce a small number of very special handbags to celebrate a particular place or occasion. The Moscow clutch is such a bag.”

Just 30 of the Moscow clutches will be made, so Russian fashionistas should probably pre-order theirs at the Moscow store ahead of the release later this month.

If you’ve drooled over Abas’ clutches like the Cate and Maggie but longed for something larger meet this sweet smelling Rose.

The Rose features the same convincing embossed leather we’ve seen on so many Abas purses. It might be a little predictable, but when a brand continues to produce quality exotic impersonators like this I’m not about to complain. The combination of convincing looking crocodile scales and high quality calfskin is intoxicating, even in a conservative shade like this tan.

The neutral hue and traditional envelope design may not be very exciting but they’re perfect for an office environment. That’s the place I see this purse working a treat, as it’s got enough space to carry the daytime essentials you’d happily leave at home once night falls.

Considering its size, the lack of strap is more than a little disappointing. You’ll need to be careful how many items you stuff inside this clutch, or at least how far you have to travel. But the limitations aside this is a lovely example of an oversized clutch, perfect for those climbing the corporate ladder and girls who aspire to in future! After all, the first step to success is looking the part!

Sometimes a bag is so perfectly in tune with your personal taste that you can’t help but think it was made just for you. The Ring Around Bag might just be that bag for me, so excuse me if I gush and drool a little.

First, it’s black and leather, which are my two first requirements for a handbag. Second, this hobo shape is out of this world. I love the slouchy, but still structured, design. I always love the hobo shape, but hate dealing with the impracticality of a fully rounded off bag. Stuff is always getting lost and knocked around. While this bag has an open compartment design, the flat bottom and structured walls will keep everything a little more in place.

The exposed zippers give the bag a little edge, but aren’t overbearing about it. The only think I don’t like about the bag is the star shaped pull tab, but it’s a minor inconvenience on a bag that I think is basically ideal.

Affording this baby is another story. At $590, it’s not in my price range. But you can bet I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for a sale.

Well, this is slightly more ostentatious than most of the highly expensive handbags in the Dolce & Gabbana range.

Of course, ostentatious doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad. In fact, if you want a designer bag that costs over $1600 to get noticed, then having one like the Lily bag is a good idea indeed. The high quality leather pattern cut into the simple satchel not only shows the skilled workmanship, but is in an unusual enough color set to be quite obvious.

Obviously this is a costly piece of kit, but I do have to emphasize the thought that has gone into it. The thick strong leather, the delicate and tiny stitching, the strong reinforced base. Then you have the trio of compartments for organized women, both zipped in a gorgeous brassy gold metal. I do like the fact that this is practical as well as individual, with strong handles that should carry the full weight without too much trouble.

This is a complicated and stylish purse, that some will love and some will hate! Would you spend this much on it?

M. Andonia leaves behind the artsy prints its famous for to create this simple and sophisticated yoga bag.

Not that M. Andonia forgets style altogether. But the spotted print in classic black or silver is more timeless than the watercolor designs might be. The look won’t clash with your exercise garb, or go out of style.

Unlike many M. Andonia bags though, the real feature here is the design. It’s almost as if the brand has gotten inside the head of any yoga fanatic to ensure there are all the extras they want. Karl Lagerfeld has dumped British poppette Lily Allen for French singer and Johnny Depp’s longtime squeeze, Vanessa Paradis. Vanessa is already starring in Chanel’s next Rouge Coco lip color campaign, and now she’ll spruik Coco Cocoon bags.

It’s a return to form for Ms Paradis, who was the face of Coco fragrance in 1991. She also posed with Chanel’s Ligne Cambon handbag in 2004, and was the face of New Mademoiselle in 2005.

It looks like 2010 will be a busy year for Vanessa Paradis. We were critical of Echo when it used terry cloth as the feature fabric on its slouchy tote recently. We derided the material for being cheap and nasty, commenting that its only redeeming quality is its ability to absorb water.

So how strange that when paired with an equally cheap material – in this case hard transparent plastic – I’m actually coming around to the use of terry cloth. It’s refreshing to see a bag that’s not trying to be anything that it’s not. It’s not synthetic masquerading as leather or snakeskin; it’s simply a few affordable fabrics having fun.

And don’t they have fun with bold color combinations like blue and green and orange and pink. Conservative tastes are catered for too with black and white terry paired with simple clear plastic. These have a more classic vibe, whereas the brightly colored options scream summer.

At first glance this looks like a really basic tote, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. There are a couple of outside pockets for stashing sunscreen and shades. I also love the removable zippered pouch which acts almost as a little wallet. I can imagine leaving my tote with my gal pals while I carry this tiny purse to the shops for ice creams and soda.

At $78 this tote is probably priced a little high for a beach bag, but it’s got a quirky charm that will make it stand out on any sea shore.

eBay is encouraging us to go green, not by buying bags made of recycled materials or organic fabrics but by opting for pre-loved handbags.

“Most people think you have to make a product in a certain way with a certain set of ingredients for it to be green,” said Amy Skoczlas Cole, director of eBay’s green team. “What we’re saying is you don’t have to make this new product at all.“

eBay enlisted the help of Cooler to calculate how much carbon shoppers save by opting for recycled products. The eco-friendly analysts say that buying a leather handbag saves as much energy as a flight from London to Paris.

Of course, all of this can easily be dismissed as spin designed to boost eBay’s appeal. But whether eBay’s message is green-washing or not, the company’s marketing strategy also makes a lot of sense.

To encourage more eco-conscious shoppers, eBay has launched a green hub highlighting items the auction site deems as environmentally friendly. Some of these are pre-owned, while others are made using sustainable practices. The site’s conveniently organized according to category, with collections dedicated to the home, technology, and fashion.

The Rock Out may seem like an unlikely name for this Mary Frances bag. After all, there’s not a hint of leather or silver studs to be seen! Instead, Mary Frances seems to take inspiration from the bohemian vibe of Woodstock.
