Oh to be Kim Kardashian. It’s not enough that she’s got curves to die for and a bulging creative resume. She’s also able to drop $100, 000 on handbags while holidaying in Paris. I am officially jealous.

Kim reportedly spent up big at the Paris Hermes store last week. She emerged with six regular leather Birkins, priced at around $10, 000 each, another unnamed crocodile handbag costing about $30, 000, and one great big smile.

Gawker and TMZ reported the news, and they tend to have their fingers on the pulse of Hollywood. I suppose we’ll find out if the rumors are true, as Kim will no doubt be parading her new purchases in front of the paparazzi soon.

If the rumors are right though, it seems those days of ridiculous waiting lists may be over. In the past we’d never see six Birkins just waiting for a buyer, but perhaps that’s because we don’t have the profile of Ms Kardashian!

I just wish I had that kind of cash to spend on a handbag for every day of the week. I’d definitely hit up my local Bottega Veneta store. What about you?

Hermes Birkin Bags on eBay

Has Laurel and Sunset taken its inspiration from the reigning queen of pop here? The GaGa hobo is every bit as attention grabbing as the musical diva that shares its name, but I’m just not sure this purse will attract the kind of attention that anyone wants.

This looks like the sort of handbag that a rainbow might have vomited. I ordinarily love color, but I’m having trouble embracing the cutesy mix of blue, pink, yellow, and green here. The red bow on the front, with its tribal beads, just caps off a look which, for me, really doesn’t work at all.

I’ll try to look on the bright side though, an ironically difficult thing when faced with such a colorful spectacle. The GaGa is a good size for everyday use, and it’s kitted out well with a zippered pocket and pair of open slips for personal technology. The loosely braided shoulder strap also looks very inviting. I imagine carrying this would feel great, even if it doesn’t look so good.

Perhaps if you’ve got Lady GaGa’s eclectic fashion sense you could work this cheap and excessively cheerful hobo. Personally though, I’ll steer well clear.

Colombian brand Cyclus is redefining what is possible with recycled tires with its new chic eco-friendly handbag collection.

These handbags have such quirky shapes and styles, you almost forget that they’re eco-friendly options. It’s rare to see a green fashion house pushing the envelope to this degree, and I commend them for it.

I particularly like the purses from the Pangolin collection, which appear just like the scaly anteater with their recycled tire plates. The range also features cute handbags designed for a girls’ night out, and active accessories to fit on to your pushbike. How wonderful to see recycled tire accessories reunited with their original sources like that!

I love the designs, which are so different from any eco-friendly handbags I’ve seen before. They’re not really on trend, but I think there’s something appealing about wearing a bag that’s unlike the others, don’t you?

The eco-friendly Cyclus bags are available online, but you’ll probably need to know a bit of Spanish to easily get around the website.

Recycled Tires Bags on eBay

This giraffe shoulder satchel from Laura Matthews Designs is a purse which makes a real style statement. But not every bagista will like what it has to say.

Personally though, I think Laura Matthews delivers this bold bag with just enough conviction. It’s all a little bit tongue in cheek. She knows her spotted haircalf doesn’t look like a real giraffe, and that the nude and orange leather band, with its art deco gem accent isn’t the most sophisticated match. But somehow it all works to create a look which is a fun, contemporary take on retro style.

And it’s hard to dispute the bag’s functionality. It’s a great size for everyday use, not too big or too small. The strap can be extended to help the purse work as a shoulder bag, and its packed with tough leather trimmed pockets.

The biggest problem is finding outfits to wear it with. If you tend to live in the land of neutrals, this satchel might help your basics pop, but if you prefer patterns and prints this purse may be too busy for you. If you can get the wear from it though, $385 is a great price for this unique haircalf satchel.

Stella McCartney has reworked her Falabella shoulder bag here into a hobo. Unfortunately, everything that I didn’t like about the bag has been retained except the shape, and nothing particularly new has been added.

The faux python on this bag is terrible. I am all for animal-friendly fashion, but python-printed polyester just isn’t pretty. Snakeskin embossing is hard enough to do on a high quality leather bag, but on an already faux material, I think it’s pretty close to impossible to make it look convincing. Not that McCartney is going for convincing here; she seems to be shooting for more of a shiny disco look, but the point is that the Falabella just looks cheap.

The shape is pretty cute, actually. It’s subtle, as far as hobos go, and the chain trim is really a nice addition. Except that the material is so lightweight and flimsy that the chain kind of weighs down the fabric and pulls it in odd directions. And the thing about having an all chain strap is that it just isn’t that comfortable. No one really wants a chain digging into their shoulder all day.

All this for only $1,375, people. Seriously, where does that price tag come from? I wouldn’t buy it for a tenth of the price.

Handbags don’t come much more exclusive than the limited edition Dubai Knot handbag Bottega Veneta will release to commemorate the opening of its new Dubai store. Just 25 of the numbered purses will be sold through the Bottega Veneta outlet at the Mall of the Emirates Fashion Dome.

The Dubai Knot is a twist on Bottega Veneta’s classic Knot clutch. It’s more elongated than the traditional clutch, and made from fuchsia-toned lizard skin. The corners are sheathed in hand-woven intrecciato sterling silver. The famous knot closure is also handcrafted from that same antique silver.

“We are delighted to be opening in the new Mall of the Emirates Fashion Dome and proud to mark the occasion with an exclusive edition of one of Bottega Veneta’s signature pieces,” says Creative Director Tomas Maier. “The Dubai Knot captures the sophistication, optimism, and imagination of this one-of-a-kind city.“

The Dubai Knot clutch will hit stores on October 20, the same day the Mall of the Emirates Fashion Dome officially opens its doors. It’s already available for pre-order at the outlet though, so if your heart is set on it I’d put your name down. Just don’t expect this level of exclusivity to come cheaply!

Forget the high end designer labels. If you want a handbag that’s high quality which won’t date, look to this Latico Louise Coinkeeper shoulder bag.

So many timeless handbags look a bit boring, but Latico manages to avoid that pitfall here. The large handle rings and bold colored leather make this purse feel modern, but these details aren’t so trend conscious that they’ll fall out of favor quickly. It’s a clever design ploy, which will endear itself to bagistas that aren’t looking for the next big thing.

That innovative design philosophy is also at work inside. Latico definitely go above and beyond the call of duty here, with three zippered compartments designed to make organization a breeze. A cell phone pocket is hidden between the zippered sections, and of course there is that patented Latico coinkeeper slot. As if it hadn’t done enough already, Latico also adds an organizer to the back of its center compartment. If you’re not satisfied with all that, you’re very hard to please.

For a mere $139, I don’t mind if the leather isn’t as soft as the European designer bags. The Louise is practical, stylish, and durable, a combination which is almost unheard of for that kind of money.

Fresh from the release of its latest collection with Dooney & Bourke, Disney has teamed up with Isabella Fiore for a range of handbags.

The latest bags star two of Disney’s most famous female characters: Minnie Mouse and Snow White. Each is playfully sketched on the canvas accessories which are then trimmed with leather. The collection features a Minnie Mouse tote, a Snow White satchel, and wallets featuring each of the characters.

The range is part of Disney’s latest efforts to capture to imaginations of customers that love fashion, but aren’t afraid to have a little fun with their style. I’m not sure it’s entirely achieved that goal, but these purses are a lot of fun.

Whilst the hobo version of this leather bag is a little short, the larger tote means that you can neatly fit in folders and books galore. Thanks to the dual carrying options you can sling it over your shoulder, or even carry it in your hand, where it will resemble a laptop bag or briefcase.

I love the versatility of this spacious luxury bag, in much the same way as I love the design. Granted, it isn’t the most exciting look in the world, but if you work in a formal environment then at least you can take pleasure in the smooth glossy leather and the subtle contrasting matte bands. It is unlikely to make anyone swoon, but for a day-to-day luxury purse this is a good sort of design to have.

At $278 this ain’t cheap, but for an investment piece it may be worth considering.

Jessica Simpson once again demonstrates that whatever you think of her, she can make some damn good handbags.

Roses may usually look most at home on a wedding handbag, but this stylized monochrome interpretation manages to update them. I could see this looking great with a cute full skirted dress, or even with jeans and a black shirt.

As you can no doubt tell, this floral purse will work with lots of outfits. However, it won’t be worn with everything, because the designer hasn’t included an optional shoulder strap. If you need to carry this for a long period of time, this may well prevent you buying it, as we all know how annoying a clutch bag can be to lug around all day!

Other than the lack of handle, this is a lovely purse. It is cute, feminine, and the frills manage to make it more than a little flirty. For just $27.20 I won’t be complaining!
