Finally a DKNY design that I can totally get behind. A lot of its pieces this season have just been so trendy or plain that I was starting to lose hope. But this quilted leather messenger bag is a fabulous accessory at a fabulous price.

The quilted black leather material is both classic and on-trend. It looks fashionable now, and it will continue to do so for years. I particularly like the elegant matte finish to the leather. It’s about time the world of accessories got a little less shiny.

The shape of this bag is part satchel, part messenger. It’s something like a mini-messenger with a handle on the top. Which is not to say that it’s tiny. It’s certainly not, it’s just not mail carrier sized, which is a welcome change from all the super-oversized bags we’ve seen lately.

It’s the little details that really pull this bag together, though. Everything from the turnlock clasp to the flat studded front straps has been meticulously chosen. This is an extremely well-designed bag for $365. Great work, DKNY.

Purple is a really hot color this season. We’ve seen it a lot in rock star funky accessories, but it isn’t that often that it looks so preppy and conservative. This satchel by Vanessa Bruno manages to make purple look preppy and utilitarian in a totally new sort of way.

Vanessa Bruno is calling the color of this suede aubergine, but it’s a lot bluer than any aubergine I’ve ever seen. The way this rich jewel tone combines with the rich dark brown leather on the bag is ideal for someone looking for a little color and a lot of versatility.

The shape of the bag is utilitarian and fabulous. It has these brilliant side pockets that you just know are going to come in handy all the time. The multi-paneled flap front looks almost militaristic with the leather strap and buckle fastening, which really works for the overall design. I especially appreciate the minimal use of hardware. I don’t know about you, but I am getting weary of looking at bags covered in metal.

Overall, I think this is a great addition to a somewhat conservative fall wardrobe, but it could also work for a girl with simple, minimal taste looking to add a little touch of color to her life. At $560, it’s priced nicely for the size and quality.

OK, hands up. Who loves Bodhi handbags? I certainly do, as there isn’t a Bodhi purse that I do not actively lust after. With their bold colors, unusual shapes and unbelievably luxurious high gloss sheen, they are unusual and stunning additions to the whole handbag industry.

OK, lusting over, what do we think of this golden yellow seamed tote?

Personally, the color sells it to me. It is so unusual, so bold and so happy, that I am certain it could brighten up even the dullest winter day. It isn’t the most practical shade, especially for conservative offices, but if you like to attract attention then a flash of egg yolk yellow like this is bound to do it.

The design too is unusual, but not so strange as to make this bag stand out like a sore thumb, or to make it difficult to use. After all, this is a tote, and needs to function as such. Thankfully this bag does just that, with multiple interior compartments and zipped pockets. The suede stripes may reduce the practicality somewhat, but this is still pretty useful.

This is a great looking bag for a surprisingly reasonable $207!

The Prunella purse should look luxurious, because Kara Ross is charging you a painful $975 to own it. The last thing you want when talking about that amount of money is something dull and everyday, so the metallic snakeskin exterior and smart sleek design will very much be appreciated.

Although I can never get my head around that amount of money, I am of the opinion that this is, at the very least, a stunning handbag. In my humble opinion it combines glamour, sophistication and an exotic vibe neatly together.

Of course, for extreme luxury brand names like this, you are expecting big things. This is why I am a little disappointed to have no optional strap; the very least Kara Ross could have done was put in a little wrist-strap or something to help towards the end of the night. Still, maybe she intended for you to get your butler to carry it for you.

In lovely materials, this Kara Ross clutch is a beaut. Would you shell out nigh on a grand for it though?

When I think of Paul Smith I think of stripes of swirling color and quirky style. That may be why I find this very conservative Trixie bag from the British designer a bit flat.

There’s a place in every wardrobe for a classic handbag, but I’m not sure Paul Smith is the designer I’d look to for it. There’s often a fine line between traditional and tired, and sadly I think this one comes down on the latter side. The taupe colored nylon is dull and lifeless. Even the rich brown leather trim and fine quilting can’t help to revive it.

It’s not a badly designed bag though. It’s not too big or too small, and the zippered pocket and pair of open slips do the job of keeping your kit in order. The adjustable shoulder strap is another nice touch. But like so much of this bag, I just can’t get excited about it.

We can usually count on Paul Smith bags to make a statement, but it seems the Trixie fell asleep before it could utter a word!

It must be tough to feel glamorous when you’ve got orange juice stains on your blouse and a rugrat clinging to your ankle, but new handbag brand Giorry hopes to make the task a bit easier with its range of diaper purses.

The name Giorry comes from a Mesopotamian word for a variety of rose. It’s an appropriate moniker, as it describes not only the Giorry bags’ aesthetic appeal but also their multi-layered design.

The label’s creator Raghad Mizban is a mother of two, so she knows exactly what new parents need. They also work beyond the role of mother; when you’re wearing your businesswoman or social butterfly hats they’re just as appropriate.

That’s a blessing, because when your children grow up the bags can work double duty as a regular tote. On the other hand, many moms may find it impractical to carry such a luxurious purse with their kids in tow. I’m not sure how lovely that cowhide will look once it’s been touched by sticky fingers! Shearling is everywhere these days. I guess it started with Uggs, but that was half a decade ago and the trend shows no sign of abating. Most of the time, I’m not really a big fan of shearling in fashion. It’s bulky, which is almost never flattering. But Marni has come up with an ingenious way to use it that I absolutely love.

Marni has combined a rich, weathered brown leather with fluffy ivory shearling to produce a bag that is smooth on the outside and soft on the inside, or vice versa if you reverse it. Personally, I prefer the leather side out, but I can see the voluminous and wonderfully textured shearling going well with a lot of boho styles.

The shape is a little bit structured, a little bit slouchy. It’s actually got a decent amount of structure as a design, but the supple materials make it slouchy. The shape also has a great balance of bulk and slimness. The heavy bottom of the bag contrasts beautifully with the svelte straps. My only concern with this is that the bag is large enough that the straps might get a little uncomfortable after a few hours of wear.

Oryany Handbags gives us the look of exotic snake print for less with this sexy Samantha tote.

I probably wouldn’t have mistaken this tote for real snakeskin, but I admit that I had to look twice to see it’s made of fabric. This patterned poly-cotton does a good job of masquerading as embossed leather, but it weighs a lot less. That’s a good thing for a tote of this size, which could easily become ungainly in a thicker material.

While it doesn’t look so authentic, I don’t mind the appearance of the beige snakeskin scales. The brown leather trim and handles are a great complement to the serpentine print, but I’m not so enthusiastic about the hardware. It seems to bog down those straps, making them appear too cluttered against the already busy pattern.

We get an awful lot of bag for our dollar here, which is always a bit of a double-edged sword. Many girls love an accessory which can comfortably fit any item they might like to carry, while others hate to be weighed down. At least Oryany gives us more pockets inside and out than most designers, so this expansive space is easier to keep organized than most.

The Samantha will never speak to everyone, but if you love to walk on the wild side this tote may be the one for you.
