BCBG Max Azria reminds us of the beauty of simple, sophisticated design with this elegant Convertible Clutch.

There’s not a hint of fad following here. The design is all about classic looks, from the polished logo plate to the gently ruched flap. The color choices of antique white and indigo are traditional too, but that doesn’t mean they’re staid. I love the way a white bag pops in winter, and navy always makes a lovely alternative to black.

It’s called a convertible, but the tuck-away chain really isn’t that revolutionary. I might have been more impressed if it was detachable, but as it stands this is almost an expected feature of a modern clutch purse. Not that I’m not grateful for it!

But I’m much more impressed by the zippered pockets inside, which make the clutch’s generous dimensions that much easier to manage. We typically only get a tiny patch pouch or two, so I’m much happier with these secure compartments.

At $198 this clutch is on the expensive side, but its classic good looks help to justify the initial outlay.

Jimmy Choo’s sophisticated designs have defined urban fashion for a decade, which is why I find it somewhat confusing when he adopts arsty-craftsy techniques and materials like woven raffia. But, Choo brings his own unique sense of refinement to everyday materials in bags like this Bali hobo, and the results are beautiful.

This pale, bleached raffia isn’t your everyday basket material. It’s also been softened up considerably, and has the flexibility of a more supple material. The black leather trim further adds to the bag’s sophisticated aesthetic, and makes it seem a little bit warmer, which I like, since I usually find woven bags to be a bit too light to transfer over into the colder months.

The raffia gives this hobo shape structure, and makes it seem less casual. I love the leather wrapping that reinforces the handle; it not only looks great, but it’s also a practical and comfortable touch. The flap and buckle closure has a small, beautiful turnlock clasp, and the slim strap decorations on the sides add a touch of rocker charm.

At $995, the Bali is extremely well-priced for the Choo line, especially for a versatile bag that will take you through several seasons.

Sara Berman is a newcomer to the fashion scene, and as such, she is still defining how she will be seen as a designer. So far, I would describe her designs as urban, modern, and a little trendy. Personally, I would take about half her bags and leave the other half. This Mini Decca has me feeling similarly divided.

I really dig the wrinkle-textured brown leather on this bag. It has a rich color and a subtly casual flair, and it’s thick enough to be durable and soft enough to be slouchy. The way it has been pieced together in panels adds a few interesting seam details to the surface of the bag.

The gold studs I could do without. I happen to be fond of studs, but I don’t like this technique of using different sizes most of the time. It’s supposed to be “interesting,” but in gold, it just sort of looks like the bag can’t make up it’s mind whether to be edgy or low key.

The shape of the Decca is fabulous, and this smaller size is more reasonable to me than previous versions. This is the kind of bag that will give a very cool bohemian edge to any outfit, and unlike so many hobos it has a little structure, so it won’t come off as totally sloppy. It also has protective feet on the base, which is a major bonus in terms of avoiding wear and tear.

For $470, the Mini Decca is a great urban staple at a pretty reasonable price point. If only there was a way to remove all those studs, it would be perfect.

Unusual design at a bargain basement price can be hard to find. Have we got a contender though with this Jazzd Twiggy baguette?

The price for this metallic handbag is just $34.99, a bargain in the current market and especially for one that has a feature that stands out from the rest. As well as the pebbled metallic faux-leather, the main feature is the rippled twisted rosette in the center. It stands out, and it is bound to catch your attention.

Of course, the gold metallic leather isn’t very daytime suitable, and that may reduce the usability of this cross-body bag. However, for such a cheap price you can probably afford to only use it occasionally!

Pretty and definitely suitable for the party season, this Twiggy tote with the adjustable cross-body strap is surely worth a punt!

Lily Waters stamps her trademark style onto this Betsy satchel.

The satchel reminded me of a weekender bag when I first spotted it, so I was surprised by its medium dimensions. You might be able to use it as an overnighter, but it’s probably more appropriate as an everyday handbag rather than a travel bag.

That everyday application does make me hesitate about the pale floral printed material, no matter how pretty it is. Without any feet on the base to raise the fabric from the ground, it’s bound to show stains and other signs of wear quickly. You might get away with that on a darker colored bag, but the pretty pastel pink will likely show every speck of dirt.

At least at $40 it won’t cost too much to replace. And while you do have it, you’ll no doubt enjoy all the exterior and interior pockets, and those extra long handles which make carrying so easy.

There’s a lot to like here, so why not throw caution to the wind and enjoy the Betsy in the moment?

We’ve oft criticized Lux de Ville accessories for looking a little cheap and tacky, but I think the retro label’s finally gotten things right with the Sparrows Half Moon Clutch.

The sparrows adorning the clutch are an inspired choice. They add a whimsical femininity which seems perfectly placed against the purse’s unusual half-moon shape. In simple white line drawings they really pop against the basic black synthetic. I’m not so sure about the leopard print base which peeks out from underneath the clutch, but at least it’s in keeping with Lux de Ville’s retro sensibilities.

I also appreciate that the base is flat, so it’ll happily sit up once you set it down. This is particularly important as Lux de Ville doesn’t offer a shoulder strap as so many clutch makers do. The last thing we want is to hold on to our purse all night after all!

This half moon clutch is an affordable way to add some rockabilly style to your outfit, with a retail value of $39.

Artistic duo Leitmotiv has already injected Furla bags with whimsical patterns from Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz. We’ve all admired Balmain’s stylish clutch purses, but with this Crystal Lovers Satchel the label shows it can deliver just as much glamour on a larger scale.

This is the kind of satchel that you either love or hate. All those glittering Swarovski crystals see to that. But strangely I don’t mind this level of bling. While I ordinarily shun ostentatious bags, Balmain’s extraordinary craftsmanship makes this one appear a bit classier than the average.

Having said that, I have no clue where I’d carry it. I can’t imagine fronting up to the office with this gaudy creation draped over my shoulder, and it’d surely overshadow any casual weekend outfit, or my evening attire for that matter!

If you do have a space for this satchel in your wardrobe though, you’ll appreciate the dimensions. It’s not very big by modern standards, but if it were all those jewels would seem overwhelming. You’re also likely to love the attachable cross-body strap, which is much easier to manage than the short handle.

You’ll need to really adore this bag to consider it though, as at almost $6000 it’s a serious cash investment.

Recently, Jimmy Choo has been putting out a steady supply of street smart styles. They have the remarkable distinction of being both edgy and elegant. This Brix leather clutch is one of my favorite of the bunch, and it might be one of my favorite bags of fall.

The wrinkled matte black leather looks fabulous with the shinier elaphe snakeskin accents. I’m not always crazy about purely decorative buckles, but they look amazing on this bag. The clutch is small and the many buckles are placed very tightly together. Ordinarily, this heavy-handed design approach might could come off as busy, but on the Brix it just looks delightfully right.

The simple shape lends itself well to embellishment. It’s rectangular and minimal, but has small details that show the quality of the craftsmanship, like the seam pattern on the front. The slightly rounded front flap softens the look up a bit without looking incongruous. At $1,150, the Brix is a solid investment, but this level of rock star glamour just doesn’t come cheap.
