This is the kind of purse I can imagine vendors selling in the streets of Tijuana. Of course, if you were buying one at the markets you could likely haggle the price down below the $160 Cleobella asks, but if you’re not lucky enough to visit Mexico this wallet is a relatively affordable substitute.

I also think it’s a great way to enjoy such a vibrant shade of pink. Even if you’re not confident enough to carry a large purse in such a lurid shade, you’ll likely warm to this. You can hide it away in your more sensible handbag most of the time after all!

Personally though I think I’d carry the Mexicana clutch style and show off that gorgeous hand-tooling. It really is beautiful, and the whip-stitching around the side only adds to its ethnic appeal.

It doesn’t have the space of a clutch, but if you only need to carry coins and cards it’ll do the job. Offering only five card slots is probably a bit stingy, but four full-length pockets, four receipt pockets, and three zippered pouches is very generous.

The woven and rolled leather handle seems slightly slim for the large size of the bag, but I trust Bottega to know what it’s doing, especially when it looks this good.

The design approach to the bag is sweet and simple. The small, rectangular shape is made to be perfectly practical and versatile. The Party Foret is truly the kind of bag that you could take almost anywhere, day or evening. Even the clasp is artful; it has a great marbled design on it that makes it look more like a jeweled embellishment than a logo plaque.

You really aren’t going to find a classic designer bag to match the Foret’s quality for less than its $360 price tag. I predict that it will soon be on the sold out list.

Marni’s quirky take on the trends often makes its accessories must-have items.  This leather and silk embellished bag is no exception. It’s a totally chic evening bag with a modern bohemian vibe.

This bag has so many layers and textures that it’s a little bit difficult to describe. The body of the bag is silk, but you can’t see it through all the embellishment. The pale orange and iridescent sequins are arranged in a fascinating pattern that looks almost tribal. The unfinished wooden bead accents enhance the look, and bring it down to earth a little.

The unusual pentagonal shape of the bag is set off with the brass frame and clasp. The rolled leather handle is substantial, and will do well to carry the weight of the bag. Unfortunately, it looks a little clunky and out of place with the rest of the design. Also, I’m not sure that the deep brown leather was the right choice to complement the light, delicate colors of the rest of the bag.

At $1,260, this bag is pretty pricey for something that you won’t really get to use that often. It’s not a particularly versatile bag, even though it has a unique beauty.

This season’s Marc by Marc Jacobs line has been a little touch and go. Some of the bags have been a little cheap and cheesy, but this Hairy Turnlock Helena Hobo is understated and practical, despite its not so elegant name.

The smooth black suede on the Hairy Helena has a very short nap, which gives it a sleek look and makes it easy to keep clean. The black leather trim makes it look a little more structured, and adds a little bit of shine to the mostly matte texture.

The shape of the Hairy Helena is not that of a traditional hobo. This bag is super slouchy like a hobo, but much more square. The gold hardware gives the bag a classic look. The handles are thick and quilted for comfortable carrying, and there’s a detachable shoulder strap, just in case.

The only thing I don’t really like about the bag is the same thing I haven’t liked about any of the new turnlock bags: the turnlock is purely decorative. This is a minor detail, of course, and for $458, I still think the Hairy Helena is a pretty good buy.

Handbag design is in the blood for the Skinner family from the Australian country town of Ballarat. Kate Skinner launched her vegan handbag line Caidia in 2007, and now her eight-year-old daughter India has gotten in on the act.

India is the creative brains behind Caidia’s youth line, Butterscotch Kids for Caidia. Just like her mom’s range, her junior bags are made from animal-friendly materials. After launching her brand for six to twelve-year-olds earlier this year, India now has two collections under her belt. But her mother Kate makes sure early success doesn’t go to her daughter’s head.

“A lot of people say ‘Oh my gosh, how does a little girl do it?’ but it’s just like if your dad is a builder and he takes his child to see how a house is built, well, India just loves doing what mum does,” Kate says matter-of-factly.

India says she’d like to be a painter or artist in future, but for now is happy to make handbags to earn her own spending money.

“We try to help her understand about money. She knows she has targets, that some has to go back into the business and some to the community ($1 from each bag goes to various charities) and some for pocket money,” Kate added. “She wants to buy a pony. She loves the animals and outdoors.“

Peekaboo, I see you! Nicole Lee shows us just how playful a woven bag can be with this Peekaboo purse.

It’s not real leather of course; that rarely comes for just $56.50. But when it’s all woven together like this you barely notice. And it really is a lovely weave, with a fun diamond design and knotted accents. The interior lining cheekily peeks through the vibrant faux leather to create a look that’s summery and full of life.

We might be in the depths of winter, but I can’t help thinking of Caribbean getaways when I look at this bag. Its teal blue color reminds me of cool water and clear skies. Paired with the right outfit I suppose you could carry this bag in winter, but I think it’ll really come into its own when warmer weather rolls around.

My only hesitation is that open top design, which can be seen as both a blessing and a curse. Of course it makes it easy to grab whatever you need without fumbling with zips or clasps, but we also lose some security. There’s a zippered pocket inside for storing small valuables, but it’s probably not large enough to accommodate all your precious cargo.

It’s hard to find too much fault with a purse costing little more than $50 though. This Peekaboo purse has real summery style and enough substance to tempt me.
