I almost fell off my chair when Tod’s released its alligator skin iPad case, but now David August has upped the ante. While Tod’s tech pouch cost $4900, David August’s new accessory is priced at a whopping $6900. That makes it the most expensive iPad case in the world.

It’s hard to justify the price difference, as both pouches are made from alligator skin, hand cut and hand stitched by fine craftsmen. I certainly couldn’t rationalize spending almost 14 times the iPad’s value to house it, but more cashed up fashionistas may disagree.

If you’ve fallen for this exotic accessory, why not lash out and buy the whole David August collection? This includes a $12, 900 laptop attaché case, a Dopp kit and watch holder, both costing $7800, and a change tray priced at $2400. In case you weren’t keeping count, that brings the entire five-piece set to a staggering $37, 800.

The pieces are available in matte and glazed finishes and more than 20 different colors. There are also many different options for customizing the accessories. All that choice is certainly appreciated, but also kind of expected when you’re paying these kinds of prices.

David August has become a favorite label amongst Hollywood celebrities like Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Robert Downey Jr., and Will Smith. Something tells me they’re also the only ones who can afford these bags!

Anne Klein reminds us that the most appealing bags aren’t always the ones that scream the loudest with this Classico Crossbody bag.

Its name obviously comes from Anne Klein’s classic design approach. This purse is pleasantly free of frills and frippery, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring. I really like the stitched details around the top and corners. I’m not so enthusiastic about the nameplate, which seems a little intrusive in its polished metal. However at least it’s kept small and discreet.

The Classico’s slender design makes it look more sophisticated than many crossbody bags, but remember that limits our storage space. I think there’s enough room for everyday use if you pack it right, but anyone who’s used to oversized totes may disagree with me!

Without a lot of stuff to weigh you down, the Classico makes a great bag for running errands or hitting the mall. And with its adjustable shoulder strap, it’s easy to find the most comfortable fit.

It’s not a bargain, but considering its superior materials and timeless style I think the Classico is well priced at $140.

I’m totally thrilled with the Marc by Marc Jacob’s line’s latest offerings. It’s doing a lot of chic, quirky reinterpretations of its other bags, and also of bags from the Marc Jacobs collection. This Bowler calls to mind similar bags from the collection, but at a lower price point, and in a slightly more urban style.

The deep blue leather on this bowler is highly textured, which gives it a classic look. Combined with the rich cool, tone and the casual styling, this bowling bag is a fabulous downtown classic. The gold hardware has a gently brushed finish that is in keeping with the bag’s low key appeal.

I love the shape of this bowler. Ordinarily, I’m not a huge fan of the style, but it looks amazing in this smaller size. The gently puckered front is feminine, and gives the bag a soft, voluminous look. The surface is beautifully free of extraneous details. The only adornments are the signature Marc Jacobs handle fastenings and prominent over-stitching.

Honestly, for $360, you really can’t do better. It may not be the punchiest bag in the line, but it has a great design that will keep your wardrobe up to date for several seasons.

Marc by Marc Jacobs is really making a splash this holiday season. He’s recently released a whole slew of updates to already popular styles, all priced in the reasonable range for a special holiday gift. This Natasha bag has gotten a quirky upgrade by way of a golden bird embellishment.

The finely pebbled grain of the black leather on the Natasha keeps it smooth and sleek enough to maintain its urban appeal. There’s plenty of warm gold-toned hardware to keep the look simultaneously classy and a little rock ‘n’ roll.

This version of the Natasha is larger and has an added front pocket, which is a great practical touch. The feminine pleating has also been removed, but the quirky gold bird accents make sort of make up for their loss. Personally, I would prefer sort of a hybrid of the Natashas, without the birds, but with the front pocket, but that would take away all the girliest details.

The two side zippers on the the front of the bag open into small pockets as well, which is another great utilitarian touch. Given the level of design on this bag, $430 is a super reasonable price. Especially since the style, while not exactly timeless, will look retro long before it looks dated.

Nicole Lee seems to have set out to silence anyone who thinks the combination of black and white is boring. This Houndstooth shopper is so far from ordinary, I barely know what to make of it!

From a fairly traditional base Nicole Lee seems determined to break almost every rule. The shape of this shopper is very odd, with lumps and bumps in the strangest of places.

She’s mixed and matched her houndstooth to create a kind of artistic patchwork effect. At least I suppose it’s intended to be artistic, but like all the best art I’m predicting fashion fans will be disagree about it. Do all those sequins create pizzazz or are they simply too flashy? I’m just not sure. Black leatherette patches on the front and side hide pockets. I appreciate the extra space, but I also think they make an already busy bag look more cluttered.

While the exterior is over complicated, Nicole Lee plays it a bit safer inside. It really ticks all the boxes, with plenty of space and pockets too. But the biggest draw card is its convertible design. Undo the clasp on the top for some extra space. It’s not as secure in this mode, but if you’ve got a heavy load you won’t mind. It’s refreshing to see a purse which looks so impractical putting functionality first.

It’ll take the most daring fashionista to wear this handbag well, but if that’s you feel free to rock this unusual shopper!

Stuart Weitzman has looked to the seas for inspiration in creating its spring/summer 2011 collection. The range features four stunning handbags embellished with nanai salmon leather.

The bags from Weitzman’s Jade line are made from printed leather and accented with the salmon skins. The delicate scales of the nanai salmon leather make it appear a lot like snakeskin. It’s made from organically raised salmon, so it’s sustainable and relatively eco-friendly. The skins are colored with biodegradable dyes which are 100% chrome free. The lack of harsh chemicals is good for the environment and the skins, whose natural structure is preserved by the process.

If course, the bags are still made from animal skins which won’t please PETA one iota. But the move towards sustainable exotics is to be commended, and the handbags are quite lovely.

The range is set to include shoulder bags, mini purses, totes, and clutches in a range of colors. Look for them in Stuart Weitzman stores and other high end retailers around the world next spring.

Puma’s iconic Special Satchel gets a cartoonish makeover with this fun Special Pop edition.

This purse looks like it might have been created by Andy Warhol or Roy Lichenstein with its bold lines and playful use of color. I love the trompe l’oeil of the red corner patches and aqua strap holders. They won’t make the purse as durable as real ones would, but they’re a lot of fun. The best part of it all though is that unlike any real work of art, this satchel is actually practical.

Its generous dimensions allow you to carry everything you need, and a few extra things beside. The black lining is fairly cheap, but at least it will disguise those inevitable stains and smears.

The base might not fare so well, especially in this white color. While minor marks will simply wipe away with a damp cloth, the lack of protective feet means that the synthetic will likely become scuffed in time.

It is only synthetic though, so perhaps I’m being too picky. For $45, we shouldn’t expect this satchel to live forever. But won’t we have fun carrying while it lasts!

I thought I’d seen eco-friendly handbags made from every material imaginable, but it seems I was wrong. Lost Property of London reuses coffee sacks to create its range of accessories.

The rucksacks, totes, and shoulder bags from Lost Property of London have a lovely, rustic charm to them. Green purists may cringe at the leather trim and handles, but this material is actually rescued end-of-line stock. The linings are also salvaged material, as Lost Property of London works hard to reduce its carbon footprint.

This is a brand which takes going green seriously. It recycles all its waste and thoroughly investigates its suppliers to ensure they comply with ethical business practices. That commitment is admirable, especially for such a small corporation.

For me, the biggest problem is Lost Property of London’s prices. With bags priced between £55 and £130, they’re certainly not cheap. If bags are made from materials that aren’t brand new, shouldn’t we enjoy a bit of a discount? Apparently the brand wants to position itself as part of the mainstream fashion industry, and its prices reflect that. Do you think its accessories are worth what Lost Property of London charges?

Imoshion brings us flowers and feminine flair with this pretty Karma satchel.

I really love the cheery yellow color, which might be just the thing for brightening those gray winter days ahead. This sunny hue is paired with pretty brown flowers, which are accented with beads and sequins for just a hint of glitz.

The look is so delicate and ladylike, which makes me question the rope handles. They’re so chunky that they seem at odds with the Karma’s femininity. I suppose the leather centers aim to unify the look, as they’re the same shade as the flowers and trim, but I think they also make that pale rope seem even more out of place.

Design quibbles inside, it’s impossible not to be impressed by the Karma’s practical design. There are not one but two main compartments, each with its own zipper to keep your goodies safe. There’s also a zippered pocket inside for carrying small valuables, and two slip pockets for holding your gadgets.

All those extras make the bottom line of just $34 seem very generous. The Karma isn’t perfect, but it’s a lot closer to it than most bags at this price point.
