As a youth line, Dooney & Bourke’s accessories are often a little too cutesy to appeal to my adult taste. But with the Venus Nina shoulder bag, the American label’s created something we can all enjoy.

The deep gloss on this bag is so lustrous that I was surprised to see it’s not patent leather, but coated fabric. This polished material is given an equestrian feel with tan leather trim and handles. I think a darker brown may have looked a bit richer, as we see on some of the color options, but it’s not really a deal breaker.

The handy front pocket is matched with a generously sized, fully lined interior. This space is well appointed with a zippered pocket in the back wall, an open slip for your cell phone, and a dog leash for your keys.

Considering the use of material over patent leather I think the Venus Nina is a little pricy at $195, but it still won’t hurt your hip pocket too much.

Iconic British brand Burberry has opened a flagship store in Tel Aviv’s posh State Square, its first retail outlet in Israel. The triple-level store sees Burberry goodies spread out over almost 1000 feet.

The Israeli boutique will sell men’s, women’s, and children’s wear from the Burberry London and Burberry Brit collections, and accessories from the Burberry Prorsum line. Some items from the Burberry Sport range will also be available, although it’s likely the store will only only the summer clothes.

High end designer stores are a rarity in Israel, so it’ll be interesting to see how the locals respond to Burberry’s presence. Handpicked franchisees Ofra Yaakobi and Yoram Hishin have been responsible for Gucci’s achievements in Israel, so Burberry’s venture is certainly in good hands.

Burberry has enjoyed recent success with retail outlets in the United Arab Emirates, but that region is affluent enough to appreciate Burberry’s high prices. Do you think Burberry will thrive in Israel?

With its cool casual charm, and a beautiful seafoam green shade, there’s a lot to like about the Selene satchel from Diesel.

The color is what really caught my eye. The cool green shade has a subtle shine to it, which helps it look almost like a metallic. It’s not as glitzy as a real metallic of course, but that hint of sparkle really makes all the difference.

If it wasn’t for the color, I probably wouldn’t be so interested in the Selene. Its design is pretty utilitarian. Every part has a purpose, from the zippered side pockets to the rolled, long handles. But that’s not entirely a bad thing. While I’d love for the satchel to have a sleeker style, if you’re looking for an everyday purse this one won’t let you down.

The functional exterior hints at the joys to come inside. If you were looking for organizational features though, you’ll be sorely disappointed. There’s just one zippered pocket, making this satchel the optimum accessory for carrying larger items. Personally I don’t mind that. There are enough pockets for your smaller valuables on the outside, so it’s nice to find a clutter-free compartment big enough to handle bulky goods. Having said that, the  Selene isn’t a large bag by modern standards, which may disappoint folks used to over-sized accessories.

The $170 price tag is on the high side for a bag that’s not made out of leather, but it’s certainly not exorbitant.

Actress Zooey Deschanel is suing Steve Madden after he allegedly reneged on a verbal contract for a collaborative accessories line.

The lawsuit says that Deschanel’s agent and Steve Madden made a binding oral contract in August 2010, which declared that Zooey would receive $2 million to become the face of a line called Zooey’s Shoes and Accessories. The deal was intended to cover 13 days of work, including an ad campaign shoot and media obligations. It went on to stipulate that Zooey would earn her money whether the collection was made or not.

Madden returned to Deschanel’s people a few weeks later and negotiated a smaller $1.5 million fee due to complications with a major retailer. The new amount was agreed upon, and it was decided that Deschanel could not enter into a similar deal with any other fashion label.

Fast forward to October, when Madden told Deschanel’s agent the deal was off. But give the original terms of the contract, Deschanel still wants her moolah.

California State law declares that verbal contracts are binding, but it really is a case of he said, she said. It’s predicted Madden will pay up to avoid bad press over the issue. No one wants to see this thing get messy in court. And hopefully it’ll pave the way for the stylish Ms Deschanel to really design a line for another label. We all know that takes more than 13 days after all!

I can’t imagine the bag will look quite as elegant in this mode, but that won’t matter much when you’re on the go.

The exterior is beautiful, but the interior means business. The simple logo printed space is kitted out with a zippered pocket and a pair of pouches for your personal technology. The magnetic closure ensures all your precious items stay safe.

At $675 this tote represents a fair investment, but I can’t imagine it’ll be one you’ll regret.

Dan W gives us a modern take on art deco style with this Waterfall minaudiere.

This purse really is a stunner, with its colored snake print leather panels, wooden frame, and mother of pearl corners. The combination is like nothing I’ve ever seen, and when you look at as many handbags as I do that’s pretty impressive.

It might not be the most practical clutch in your collection though. It’s quite small, and its hard case means you won’t be able to sneak any extras inside. I’m used to traveling light of an evening, so that doesn’t worry me so much. The lack of strap is another matter. This minaudiere is such an unusual shape, I can’t imagine it’ll be very easy to carry. Wrapping your hand around that raised wooden frame could prove especially awkward.

The Waterfall purse is affordable at $92, but it seems you might get what you pay for. Customers have complained about the pearl breaking, and the glue wearing away. It looks like this might be one of those purses that’s here for a good time, not a long time!

We all know Diane von Furstenberg creates amazing handbags, but did you know the American designer is also a tireless charity worker? Her efforts in AIDS fund raising and awareness will be recognized when she’s awarded the amfAR Award of Courage next year.

Von Furstenberg will be honored alongside iconic actress Elizabeth Taylor and former American president Bill Clinton.

“Each of these honorees has made vital and distinctive contributions to the global struggle against HIV/AIDS,” amfAR chairman and fellow fashionista Kenneth Cole told Women’s Wear Daily. “We are enormously proud to be able to pay tribute to such exceptional and compassionate humanitarians.“

The ceremony will be held at New York’s Cipriani on February 9, 2011. The gala event will also mark 25 years of amfAR. That non-profit organization may not have found a cure yet, but through the efforts of supporters like von Furstenberg I’m sure it’s much closer to it.
