Just because Stella McCartney shuns animal furs and leathers in her fashion line doesn’t mean she’s above mimicking their exotic coats. It might seem as incongruous as those veggie sausages and Thanksgiving tofurkey, but that’s just what we get with this Nirvana tote.

Those gripes aside, this is a fair effort from Stella McCartney. I’m glad to see her ditching that cheap looking glossy synthetic she’s used so much of recently for a more palatable nylon. It’s still not very luxurious but the finish seems much richer, especially when covered with blotchy leopard spots. I’m not always a fan of this animal print, but the neutral earthy tones make this one feel more classic fashion and less desperate cougar.

The Nirvana’s design is impressive too. It’s luxuriously large, but if you’re still struggling for space you can gain a few extra inches by unzipping the sides. The two exterior pockets are camouflaged by those spots, but if you lose them there are a few more inside! The webbed handles will be every bit as sturdy as they look, perfect for those girls who love to grab their tote and go with a minimum of fuss.

While this is one of the better examples of Stella McCartney’s design prowess, I’m still not sure she’s done enough to justify the $975 price tag. That’s a lot of money for a nylon handbag after all!

Look out fashionistas, this shoulder bag’s flap is so huge that there’s no telling what it’s capable of! Seriously, I’ve never seen a flap this big. Even if it’s not plotting world domination, at the very least it could overshadow an outfit.

While the classic fashion fan in me is hesitant to carry something so bold, I admire Spiegel’s willingness to try something new here. Shoulder bags with flap closures are a dime a dozen, so they rarely stand out. Here we get something that’s so unusual it’s bound to get noticed. As if there was any doubt, Spiegel delivers it in bright pink and purple. Traditionalists may long for classic shades, but Spiegel declares that its bag isn’t for wallflowers!

While the design choices are bold, Spiegel backs them up with a very practical design. This shoulder bag is roomy, with enough zip and open pockets to keep it easily organized. The material is synthetic rather than real leather, but for under $50 that compromise should come as no great surprise.

Ultimately that price is what wins me over. Bagistas might hesitate to spend the big bucks on a purse so unusual, but for this money it seems worth the gamble!

The Marc by Marc Jacobs line is known for being trendier and somewhat more street smart than the designer’s main collection, but sometimes it releases traditionally beautiful bags like this one that almost everyone can appreciate. While I love the label’s usually edgy aesthetic, I’m happy to it offer something so versatile and affordable.

This tan color is all the rage this season. It sounds like I’m being sarcastic, but I’m not. Seriously, the colors I have written about most this season are tan and taupe. We must be in a recession if such neutral tones are what’s really hot right now. Anyhow, the color is spot on, and I love the antique effect that is created by the darkening around the edges.

The shape of the clutch is great. The envelope style is classic, but not played out. The unusual brass clasp upholds the vintage look, but it still appears contemporary enough to wear with modern styles. This is the kind of clutch that is versatile enough for day or night. I think it will work well with office styles, but it will also be a great casual evening bag. And at $300, the price makes the versatility of this clutch that much more attractive.

I’ve been feeling a little conflicted about the Jimmy Choo line lately. On the one hand, I’ve really been impressed with its evolution in the past few seasons. On the other, this season it has released some disappointingly unexciting bags. This Zeta clutch, however, achieves such a precise balance of glamour and elegance that I feel like it’s back on the right track.

The glitter-treated cotton fabric on the Zeta is truly fabulous. It’s super sparkly, but without looking immature or unsophisticated. The bronze color helps out here a lot. It has a burnished, metallic finish with a very warm tone. The gold leather trim is the perfect accent. Its metallic sheen adds to the sparkle of the Zeta, and offers a nice contrast to the bronze glitter.

I love the low key shape of the Zeta. It’s a small and curvy pouch with a flap front. Usually I will that logos would just disappear, but the gold plaque at front is totally cohesive with the rest of the design, and in fact, adds a cool hardware-inspired touch. I’m always a fan of the wrist strap, and on this bag it looks great, and gives you a convenient way to carry the clutch.

At $495, the Zeta is very reasonably priced for the Choo line. Part of the reason it’s a little less expensive than other Choo clutches is the use of cotton instead of leather. Luckily, this substitution looks beautiful, and makes the Zeta very accessible.

Make Love Not Trash specializes in making purses that are eco-friendly, and the camo-khaki color of this cross-body kind of fits with the theme!

As for the design, as implied by the color, it is focused on practicality. It is spacious, with a big lined interior, and a useful long shoulder strap. The canvas is practical, difficult to damage or rip, and in a shade that doesn’t show up much dust and dirt. There isn’t anything particularly fashion-y about this canvas purse, but it certainly tries hard to be handy!

The only nod to fashion or looks is the wing print, a design we are used to seeing on Make Love Not Trash bags, which could be seen as its signature motif. Girls more into fashion may demand something more, but if you are more concerned with being “green” then this saddle bag should do you fine!

Pilar Abril combines bright snakeskin patterned synthetic leather with an unusual wooden frame, to make a purse that is stylish and different from everything else.

It is always nice to have handbag that stands out from the crowd, and when that bag costs just $75 it is even nicer! A beautiful purse rarely comes affordably price, and I think the lack of real snakeskin or leather is a fair price to pay.

It is the colors that make the Magnolia clutch so eye catching. They are rich in purple and red hues, a bold and distinct palette that many people are bound to love. Even people who don’t like snakeskin will be likely to find this colorful version quite tempting. If they don’t, there is a chance that wooden detailing will still make this clutch worth considering!

The pattern and the shape of this Pilar Abril clutch have both been done before, but I think there is something sophisticated yet earthy about this that makes it one of the nicest I have seen.

I’ve been excited about Michael Kors’ MICHAEL line all season. It’s really kept an eye on the trends, without making them look flashy or overdone. This Webster clutch is a sophisticated, but slightly edgy clutch at a shockingly low price.

The supple black leather on this bag is perfect for ruching. It has a smooth grain and a soft glaze that catches the light, but stays soft looking. The ruching is detailed and interesting. It gives the bag a sexy look that is simultaneously retro and modern.

The shape of the Webster is nice and simple, perfect for pairing with a variety of different outfits. The combination of elegance and edginess makes this bag super versatile. It would be equally at home with ripped jeans and stilettos as with a sassy cocktail dress.

But the best thing about the Webster is the $98 price tag. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed as bag this inexpensive, and certainly not one this cool.

Even though I haven’t been in the past, I have become kind of a fan of DKNY in recent months. It makes fashionable and affordable accessories for urban fashionistas. But this croc effect bag looks cheap and cheesy, and I am really disappointed by it.

The taupe crocodile embossed leather is the number one problem behind this bag. First of all, the color is totally boring. Granted, I’m not a huge fan of taupe, but I’ve definitely seen better versions. Secondly, the crocodile effect on the leather is terrible. There’s nothing realistic about it, and the high gloss on the bag just brings attention to that.

The shape is also questionable. I can see that the label had an interesting idea going on, but it’s just not well executed. The sides look uneven, and if they look uneven now, just wait until the bag is unevenly filled with all your things. The hardware is the best thing about the bag. I love the doorknocker design of the front clasp, but I wish the fold-over flap had a zipper underneath it. The bag is just too big for me to feel safe with its almost completely open top.

At $265, this croc effect bag is affordable, but not particularly good value. I’d skip it if I were you.

Prezzo seems to have a bit of a thing about New York! Still, it is an iconic city, so we can understand why!

One of the big selling points for the Prezzo brand is the price point. Its bargain basement bags are cheap, and the NY Scenes hobo is no different. Priced at just $24 you could be forgiven for assuming it would be overly simple, but actually this tote bag has a surprising amount going for it.

As well as the design, you see, this shopping bag features a very useful zip-up top. Many cheaper bags don’t have this, but it really comes in handy when toting around lots of bits and pieces. It even has a spacious zip-up pocket inside. It may not have a lining, but as you can tell this is a cheap purse that has bothered to put in the effort.

If you don’t like this particular scene, then Prezzo has planned ahead, giving you three other options just in case. There must be some New York scene that takes your fancy!
