From a distance this Marni purse looks like a fairly boring black clutch, but there’s more to the Wingtip Pochette than meets the eye.

It’s only when you look closely that you notice the delicate wingtip detail running across the flap. This subtle accent helps add some necessary flair to this traditional black leather clutch.

I can imagine more daring fashionistas may crave more pop, but I don’t think this Pochette should be dismissed out of hand. It’s incredibly wearable, no matter what the season, the occasion, or the time of day. Sure it’s sedate, but by playing it safe Marni’s ensured this pochette won’t date.

Marni could probably added a few more features for our dollar though. A zippered interior pocket would have been more practical than the slip we’re given. While it should be easy enough to tuck underneath our arm, a shoulder strap wouldn’t have gone astray.

At $420 there’s no doubt we’re paying a premium for the Marni name attached. But the Wingtip Pochette is still a great option if you’re after a day to night purse.

I’m completely smitten by the weathered qualities of that lush cognac colored leather. Its burnished tinges make it feel like much more than simply a brown leather bag. Its patina will also ensure it’ll only look better as it ages. The soft glazed skin is compelling enough that this briefcase doesn’t need any other details to distract us. Its accordion style is very traditional, which is just what we need for a stuffy office environment.

This briefcase’s looks are compelling, but Marino Orlandi matches them with a practical design. It’s already a large bag, but its expandable accordion style means we can pack more inside it than we might expect. All that space might have overwhelmed us if not for the triple compartment design. The zippered pocket in the center is large enough to handle a standard laptop, and you could put your files and important documents in the compartments to either side. The long, detachable cross-body strap is also padded for commuter comfort.

At $550 this Marino Orlandi briefcase is a bit of an investment, but it’s not unreasonably priced for a bag that will become part of your everyday wardrobe.

Burberry has named Gabriella Wilde and Roo Panes as its new glamor couple. The gorgeous twosome replaces Cara Delevigne and Eddie Redmayne in the British company’s autumn/winter 2012-2013 advertising campaign.

Both beauties are destined to take off in the coming months. Panes’ folky music was recently recorded under Burberry’s own label, while Wilde was just cast alongside Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore in the highly anticipated Carrie remake.

The casting decisions follow on from Burberry’s commitment to celebrating the arts in its native Britain. The moody black and white images feature the pair set against the backdrop of Burberry’s beloved London. Acclaimed photographer Mario Testino captured the photographs in Greenwich’s Royal Naval College. All that fog and the wet pavements help set the atmosphere for the cold weather commercials.

The advertising campaign is a great way to usher in the second half of 2012, which is set to be one of Burberry’s biggest. After increasing its profits by 25% last year, the label’s preparing to open the doors of its largest flagship store on Regent Street. If the boutique does well, those sales figures might be even larger by the end of 2012!

If you’ve always appreciated Mary Frances’ artistry but struggled with her propensity for kitsch, this Bombshell wristlet may be the bag for you.

There’s still some level of novelty to this ostentatious purse, but it’s much subtler than the accessories which look like mai tais and telephones. Its eye-catching beads create an alluring, Middle Eastern inspired collage. Their classic earthy colors should help the Bombshell work itself into your evening wardrobe.

Bags that look like the Bombshell are notoriously impractical. Its interior is so small that even carrying the essentials will prove challenging. The satin lining makes it feel a little more luxurious, but there’s no getting around the severe storage limitations. At least the pretty wrist loop makes carrying simple, while adding an extra dose of charm.

I can’t imagine anyone was considering buying the Bombshell for its functionality though. It’s all about those dramatic good looks. If you’ve fallen for them you’ll happily note the Bombshell’s not unreasonably priced at $218. That’s a lot to spend on a bag with such a distinct look, but it’s also relatively affordable for such an elaborate design.

We’re all encouraged to carry reusable totes to the grocery store, but unless you’re cleaning yours regularly the practice might turn you a sickly shade of green!

Researchers at the University of Arizona recently tested 84 resuable shoppers for bacteria and other nasties. They found that more than half of the bags were infected with dangerous bacteria including harmful E.coli.

Apparently our groceries are the big culprits behind the contamination. As we use the shoppers they collect leaky fruit juices, meat blood, and a host of other foodstuffs. Fungus and mold can also breed amongst the bags’ fibers. And then consider all the germs we pick up from our car trunks, kitchen and supermarket counters, and anywhere else the bags sit. And as most people never wash their reusable bags, it’s no wonder the totes become pretty disgusting before long!

I must admit, I’m guilty of never washing my shoppers despite taking them on every grocery run. Judging by the statistics I’m not a slob either; no one thinks of taking care of this bags. I throw them out when they start to look a bit manky, but goodness knows what they’ve bred by then!

Vertical zips help this classic flap-over cross-body stand out from the crowd. They make the Emily feel quite modern, and much edgier than her feminine name might suggest. Colored trim helps the bag’s accents and clean lines pop to varying degrees. Personally I prefer the comparative subtlety of this red purse, but there are a few more dramatic choices, including a black and white version, if you prefer.

The Emily is a relatively petite purse, long but slender. However Mellow World’s managed to cram plenty of features inside it. The zippered wall pocket and six credit card slots encourage us to leave our wallet behind, creating space for all those other essentials. The zippered top and magnetic snap should work together to help them stay safe, while the double compartment design takes care of organization.

I also appreciate the carrying options. Its name suggests the Emily is just a cross-body purse, but it’s got much more than that to offer. Mellow World also provides a shorter strap, which allows us to covert the Emily to a shoulder bag. Alternatively we could do away with the straps altogether and use the purse like a clutch.

The Emily is far from the height of luxury, but at just $36.95 it represents real value for money.

Earlier this year, Maison Martin Margiela impressed us with the versatility of the Half Moon Clutch from its Line 11 collection. Now with this Glossed Leather Clutch Maison Martin Margiela has turned the shape on its head, literally, for after five wear.

The weathered casual finish of the Half Moon was perfect for daytime wear, but the polished wine colored lambskin we see here is much more appropriate for evening wear. I love the rich jewel hue, and the sexy sheen of the leather. This is a fairly minimalist purse, but the white pearly clasp and the stamping that borders the front flap save it from being boring.

If you don’t expect this Glossed Leather Clutch to do anything other than look chic you won’t be disappointed. Its interior is very basic. In fact, it isn’t even lined. This clutch is sizable but so slender that it’s challenging to even fit essentials inside it. You’ll need to pack it carefully to ensure it retains its sexy smooth lines.

At $665 this purse is probably too expensive for one so impractical, but it looks so lovely I’m tempted to splurge on it anyway!
