Louis Vuitton in Miniature | Vincent Bousserez Takes Whimsical Bag Photographs

Posted on: Jun 3

Louis Vuitton Miniature Photo

Photographer Vincent Bousserez has created a dreamlike world in miniature for a new artistic collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

Through a series of photographs, Bousserez imagines what might happen at the Louis Vuitton Champs-Elysees store when doors close at the end of a day’s trade. We see teeny tiny figures using the Louis Vuitton bags as their playground. Some tend to the adored purses, while others believe their luxury monogrammed surfaces are perfect for a round of golf!

I immediately though that it would be interesting to get these people out of their artificial world and to bring them to life in ours,” Bousserez explained. “The gap between what we expect from them and what they actually (and where they do it) do allows space for the humor, dreams and imagination.

The photographs are so whimsical and magical that they take viewers right back to childhood. They also allow us to appreciate Louis Vuitton accessories in a whole new way. I’ve never looked at the designer bags so closely before, but I’m impressed!

I’m not sure whether this photographic series will encourage more people to invest in Louis Vuitton handbags, but they should put smiles on the faces of a few luxury lovers.

Nancy Gonzalez Croc & Linen Magazine Tote | Mosaic Cut-Out Gold Handbag

Posted on: Jun 3

Nancy Gonzalez Croc Linen Magazine ToteSummery linen and exotic crocodile come together with style in this Magazine Tote from Nancy Gonzalez.

The last time we saw Nancy Gonzalez adding linen to her favorite crocodile skin I was less than impressed. The fabrics didn’t mesh nearly as well as they do here. The mosaic style cut-out design is inspired, as it allows the crocodile to frame the earthy material underneath.

I love the gentle contrast between the golden croc and natural toned linen. The metallic reptile skin is luxurious, but as it’s used sparingly it doesn’t feel too gaudy. In fact, it’s much more reserved than the black and natural toned version! This one’s a little bold for my taste, although I appreciate that Nancy Gonzalez has offered two such distinct looks.

What you see is really what you get here. While its exterior is intricate, inside its very basic without a closure or internal pockets. Its handles are also too short to be truly practical.

If you crave functionality you’ll be disappointed, especially for $2950. But if looks matter most you’ll happily note that it costs less than Nancy Gonzalez’s all-crocodile creations!

More Features of This Nancy Gonzalez Magazine Tote

  • Decorated with Caiman fuscus crocodile
  • Inverted sides
  • Tubular top handles
  • Measures 15 x 14 x 4 inches
  • Made in Colombia

Red Flag Design Recycles Fabrics | Sustainable Sailcloth & Canvas Bags

Red Flag Design Sailcloth Tote

Canadian firm Red Flag Design turns old sailcloth into functional and fashionable handbags and other accessories.

Vancouver natives Barnaby Killam and Stuart Sproule founded the firm in 2004. At that time they just a small shoebox studio and a swag of old sailcloths to work with. From these humble beginnings Red Flag Design grew to create several accessories collections using various recycled materials in a much larger studio, but its principles remain the same.

While Red Flag Design is a sustainable firm, its creators are driven by more than environmental concerns. They appreciate the history of their materials, and celebrate the imprint of its former life with the new designs. Saving fabrics from landfill is simply a bonus.

Red Flag Design’s recycled fabrics are complemented by high quality ropes, zips, grommets, and other hardware. The label uses recycled items where possible, although it carefully inspects each piece to ensure quality isn’t compromised. The designing duo takes a hands-on approach to the manufacturing process which ensures its customers enjoy super craftsmanship.

Red Flag Design’s flagship AUM Sailcloth collection now sits alongside its newer Heavyduty Mark II line made from tough industrial materials and the AUM Recycled Canvas collection. All the bags are available from Red Flag Design’s website.

Mulberry Hetty Clipper Soft Matte Doctor Bag | Black Pebbled Leather Carry-All

Posted on: Jun 2

Mulberry Hetty Clipper BagMulberry gives the classic doctor bag a sleek modern makeover with this Hetty Clipper Handbag.

The Hetty Clipper’s shape is a bit softer than a traditional doctor bag, with gentle, almost accidental pleating around its edges. Of course nothing on a Mulberry bag is truly an accident, but this illusion makes the Hetty Clipper feel relaxed for everyday use.

The structured short handle takes this doctor bag back to its roots, but it’s not very practical for a handbag so large. Thankfully Mulberry’s modernized that too and added a much longer cross-body strap. The Hetty Clipper doesn’t look quite as chic with this strap attached, but carrying it any other way would be awkward.

The Hetty Clipper’s interior is so spacious that the standard array of zip and slip pockets have a big job to do. Personally I’d prefer a segmented compartment, although this one will work best if you’re carrying large items. The lack of organizational aids mean the Hetty Clipper may not work well as an everyday handbag, but I think it’d make a great weekender or piece of carry-on luggage.

$1,180 is really expensive for any bag that can’t become part of your everyday wardrobe, but if you’ve got cash to spare I can’t imagine you’ll regret splurging on this investment piece.

More Features of This Mulberry Leather Doctor Bag

  • Gold-toned hardware
  • Top zip closure
  • Measures 8.3 x 11.8 x 5.1 inches

Push Pull Cambodia’s Authentic Ikat Handbags | Traditional Woven Accessory Collection

Posted on: Jun 2

Push Pull Cambodia Uptown ToteIkat prints are right on trend, with modern labels like Lucky Brand and Tylie Malibu all replicating this tribal look. But why just accept the imitators when you can enjoy genuine ikat? Push Pull Cambodia brings this traditional Asian woven finish to the masses.

Push Pull Cambodia employs Khmer artisans to produce its authentic Ikat handbags. The firm is the brainchild of Daniel Flickinger, who became enamored with the craft when he visited Takeo Province, the Cambodia region known as the hub of Ikat, in 2008. It took just one year for Flickinger to create the company which would take the ancient weaving art to the Western world.

Through his fashion house, Flickinger offers long-term employment to his artisans and a better quality of life for their families. Each one of the workers at the Push Pull Cambodia weaving center takes care of a different phase of the Ikat process. From tying and dying to weaving and spinning, the entire process is done by hand according to Cambodian tradition.

Push Pull Cambodia creates a range of handbags, from small wallets and iPad cases to larger totes and travel bags. The company also creates a range of square and lumbar pillows. Shipping is all free to American residents. Shop for the Push Pull Cambodia collection through the label’s online store.

Love Moschino Funny Round Handle Hobo | Unusual Brown Calfskin Handbag

Posted on: Jun 2

Love Moschino Funny Round Handle HoboIt’s hardly hilarious, but there’s a definite quirk about this Funny Round Handle Hobo from Love Moschino.

Its name suggests that this hobo’s handle is a novelty, but really it’s just your average short curved handle, with a golden underside for strength. It’s elegant, and no laughing matter. But the combination of the handle and the soft squat shape does make this hobo look a little comical. It’ll hardly induce a fit of giggles, but it’s likely to turn heads as you pass.

This Funny Round Handle Hobo’s dramatically pleated body is perfect for emphasizing the quality of its sumptuously soft calfskin. The lack of structure makes this hobo a little awkward to use, but if you love the look you’ll hardly mind! The interior is really well organized though, with a central zippered compartment and two snap button sections on either side. This triple-compartment design makes this slouchy hobo feel much more manageable.

We’ve oft criticized Moschino for its inflated prices, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this hobo costs just $264. That’s far less than most pieces from its “Cheap & Chic” range!

More Features of This Love Moschino Pleated Hobo

  • Golden hardware
  • Flat base
  • Satin lined interior
  • Measures 10 x 14 x 4 inches

Mywalit Large Duffle Bag | Bright Green Leather Drawstring Carryall

Posted on: Jun 1

Mywalit Large Duffle BagAdd a pop of color to your summer wardrobe with this Large Duffle Bag.

A bag made of such a lurid colored leather could never be called subtle, but its finish is a little more reserved than many Mywalit designs. Rather than a rainbow of color we get just a splash of contrast with the navy nylon accents.

A drawstring’s never my preferred method of closure, but it’s par for the course on duffles like this. It’s fiddly to use, and not very secure. Adding a magnetic snap underneath it would have made all the difference. The main compartment is well organized though, with a collection of slip and zip pockets. It’s also a great everyday size, although Mywalit also makes a medium version if you prefer something more compact.

It looks like a beach bag, but I wouldn’t take a duffle made from such luscious leather to the shore. Mywalit’s Italian leather isn’t made for enduring harsh coastal air or splashes of salty water. Instead it’s a perfect companion for a picnic lunch or trip to the farmers markets.

Where would you take this playful Mywalit duffle?

  • An adjustable shoulder strap

Bottletop Designs Limited Edition Handbags for (RED)RUSH | Recycled Ringpull Bags for HIV/AIDS Charity

Posted on: Jun 1

Bottletop Red BagLuxury eco-conscious fashion label Bottletop has teamed up with HIV/AIDS charity (RED) to support this month’s (RED)RUSH fundraising initiative. Bottletop founders Oliver Wayman and Cameron Saul have created three limited edition purses to support the charity drive.

As with all Bottletop bags, the limited edition (RED) purses are handcrafted by women living in the shanty towns of Salvador, Brazil. These women carefully weave recycled ringpulls together to create the distinctive purses. Their work earns them a fair wage and a sense of security uncommon in their violent hometown. The bags are then finished with buttery Bahian leather and crochet accents.

Bottletop is a longtime supporter of AIDS and HIV charities, so it makes sense that it’s involved in this latest high profile campaign. It will donate 10% of the sales from the limited edition (RED) handbags to (RED)’s koffers.

Cynics might suggest that 10% is a measly amount, but it’s important to consider Bottletop’s other work. For a start, it’s paying its artisans much more than they would otherwise earn. The company also uses its funds to help skill young people in Africa, South America, and the United Kingdom through its Bottletop Foundation. I think Bottletop’s already spreading itself pretty thinly, don’t you?

The limited edition Bottletop Foundation (RED) bags are now on sale from Bottletop and (RED)RUSH’s websites.

Miu Miu Velvet Clutch | Red Ergonomic Evening Purse

Posted on: Jun 1

Miu Miu Velvet ClutchLately I’ve been tiring of Miu Miu’s over-embellished, overdone designs, so I’m thrilled to see the label paring things back with this Velvet Clutch.

This purse reminds us of the beauty that comes with well-designed simplicity. Its unusual bean shape just begs us to hold it, especially as it’s made from sumptuously soft velvet. Its rich cherry red color is deeply sensuous. I can just imagine the way it’d look paired with a vibrant print, or against a little black dress.

On the front we’ve got the little gold bauble on the envelope flap, which pops against the lush red material. And on the back, Miu Miu offers some branding. It’s unusual to hide a logo away like this, but also a sign of the times. In a world that’s moving away from ostentatious displays of wealth, it makes sense to keep the name discreet.

The interior is petite but well thought out with slit pockets in both the front and back wall. If I were to feel critical I might suggest the lack of strap is an oversight, but I’m honestly not so sure. While a hands-free carrying option is always convenient, something tells me the Velvet Clutch wouldn’t look quite as chic with a chain attached.

At $635 this clutch is expensive, too expensive for my rational side. But there’s something about this clutch that’s crawled underneath my skin. Is it tempting you?

  • Rose satin lined interior
  • Measures 5 x 9 x 1.5 inches

Children Worldwide Fashion Launches Own Label | Billiebrush Girls Clothes with Matching Handbags & Shoes

Posted on: Jun 1

BilliebrushChildren Worldwide Fashion (CWF) is making it even easier for moms to keep their young ones looking stylish, and age appropriate, with the upcoming launch of its first in-house brand. The comprehensive girls fashion collection, dubbed Billieblush, will sit alongside CWF’s other labels including Timberland and DKNY.

The 150-piece line features feminine items for girls ranging from newborns to preteens. A floral printed retro-style dress and a sparkly peach tulle skirt are bound to be popular amongst young girly girls. Billiebrush also takes the guesswork out of accessorizing by producing a handbag, hair decorations, and shoes to complement each apparel item. There’s even a cute transparent spotty rain coat, which comes complete with matching wellington boots. How cute!

With young girls growing like weeds, no parent wants to spend a lot of money on their clothes. So it’s refreshing to see the line, which looks to bridge the gap between designer and high street fare, will cost between £10 and £50. That’s not a lot to spend on quality fashion, especially if you’ve got other kids to hand them down to!

The Billieblush girls collection will be distributed to retailers in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia for the spring 2013 season.
