Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld has been named the new face of Miu Miu.

No further details have been announced, but it’s assumed that the gorgeous young actress will front advertisements for Prada’s spin-off label. There’s no denying Steinfeld’s fashion credentials, as she’s been a regular fixture in best dressed lists since her break-out role in True Grit. She never puts a foot wrong on the red carpet, and that should hold her in good stead as she steps into the modeling world.

But on the other hand, she’s just 14 years old. Miu Miu’s other famous faces, including Katie Holmes, Kirsten Dunst, and Chloe Sevigny, have all been significantly older. Do you think she’s too young for the job?

I’m just not sure. Miu Miu has always had a youthful energy, but it’s still an adult line. One of the things I’ve always admired about Steinfeld is her age-appropriate approach to fashion. I’d hate to see her styled beyond than her years, but I’m not sure that teen fashion is the direction Miu Miu should head.

I hope you like sequins, because Kara Ross gives us plenty with this Luna Clutch.

This purse is covered in thousands of the glittery discs, which shimmer and sparkle like a disco ball. This electric blue shade completes the retro effect for me and I’m sure other children of the 80s, or anyone who’s admired the decade from afar, will agree! The sequins only pause to accommodate a decorative faceted stone.

Open it up and the Luna is a much more subdued affair lined in basic black leather. It’s organized more like a wallet than a clutch, so it’s really made for women who know how to travel light. It should handle cash and cards, but cell phones and cosmetics may be stretching the friendship.

I do wish there was a carrying strap though, as I worry about bumping some of those sequins off. The effect will be spoiled if we do, and hand-held clutching seems to be tempting fate. Make sure you handle the Luna carefully, as at $500 it’s a pricy proposition!

Juicy Couture remains true to its creative vision without going over the top with this clever Icon Bling tote.

At first it appears like so many black canvas bags, and in many ways it is, but I think its design is actually very smart. The large crown graphic is classic Juicy, with its shimmery finish and tiny jewels. This blingtastic image is tempered by the basic black canvas background. In the past we might have imagined Juicy Couture adding bows or crafting this bag from velour, but its shown remarkable restraint.

It’s also offered us more than just another stock standard tote. I appreciate the sturdy platform base, which helps this bag sit up when it’s put down and makes packing easy. Its size is also ideal for everyday use, and its zip and slip pockets make the space seem a bit more manageable. There’s another slip pocket on the back too, which I’d likely use for my cell phone. With it sitting snugly against your body, set it to vibrate and you’re not likely to miss a call!

At $88 this Icon Bling tote is an affordable everyday bag for Juicy Couture devotees, and the converts too!

If you are feeling a little silly, then this fun and flirty purse is made for you.

This isn’t a clutch for being sensible. In much the same way, formal black tie events probably won’t be the chosen venue. However, for easy-going nights out where you can have a little fun, then Felix Rey has thrown lots of things to cheer you up into the mix. The smiley face alone may do the job: a cute little external coin with some cheeky gem detailing and a whole bunch of character. Then, an added bonus, the main zip is decorated with a puffy feathery creation.

Whilst hot pink feathers can be a little drag queen, I think the Happy Diamond does manage to keep it at least slightly tongue in cheek. Maybe the metal mesh body is helping, and the fact that most of it is in a darker color keeps it somewhat more neutral.

The ridiculous quality of this purse means you are a bit limited as to where you can wear it, but it’s still good fun. Whether it is $175 worth of silly fun though, I’m not sure.

Pippa Middleton wasn’t the only member of the bridal party inspiring handbag envy at the recent nuptials of Prince William and Katherine Middleton. Since Queen Elizabeth II carried a Launer London purse to the event, the British label has enjoyed a massive 60% sales increase.

Her Majesty carried a cream calfskin purse that she’s actually owned for the last two years. As its old stock it’s no longer available, but the Traviata and Diva are similar to this structured handbag. They’re quite expensive at a little over a thousand US dollars a piece, but I suppose that’s not entirely unreasonable for a bag loved by real royalty!

Launer London’s classic box bags have found new fans amongst women aged 35 to 50 years. No doubt these beauties have been influenced by Launer London’s high profile fans. The Queen holds good company, with the Duchess of Cornwell, Baroness Thatcher, and Dame Judi Dench also Launer London devotees. It’s interesting that these celebrities are much older than Launer London’s new enthusiasts, who are perhaps hoping to emulate a more mature sense of style.

Pippa Middleton may have got the youth vote for her wedding get up, but it’s exciting to see that The Queen at 85 can still influence fashion. I’m sure she’s thrilled by all the attention, as I’m sure Launer London is too!

Easter may be over, but while I’m managing to eke out my chocolate supply I’m still in the holiday spirit. And what better way to hold on to that Easter joy just a little bit longer than carrying this Judith Leiber egg-shaped minaudiere?

I haven’t always warmed to Judith Leiber’s quirky evening purses, but I think she gets the balance right here. The egg shape is unusual without becoming a novelty, and its blue enamel finish is so regal. The smattering of multi-colored crystals is the final sweetener. They add the right amount of evening bling without taking this purse over the top.

Of course, no one buys a Judith Leiber bag because it’s functional. Therefore anyone who’s fallen for it probably won’t mind that the egg shape is even less practical than a structured box. Storage space is severely limited, so I hope you know how to travel light. There is a detachable chain strap, but something tells me using it would ruin the illusion. But I suppose it’ll come in handy though when the drinks trays start to circulate!

I’m lusting over this purse but like so many Judith Leiber creations it’s way out of my price range. At $3995, this is strictly a purse for cashed up fashion fans.

I haven’t always been impressed by the bags DKNY’s released in recent seasons, so I’m thrilled to see the label’s brought in some fresh design blood. The American fashion house has collaborated with fashion bloggers Tina Craig and Kelly Cook for five exclusive fall purses.

The girls know a thing or two about handbags, as they both write for The Bag Snob. The partnership came about when the writers said one of DKNY’s handbags looked like “a sea creature.” DKNY’s public relations department defended their bag and sent the Bag Snob team a purse so they could appreciate its charms. The bloggers agreed the bag was much more appealing in person, and an online relationship was formed.

Bag Snob’s new handbags for DKNY were created using the blog’s “5 essentials” rubric. The result is a selection of purses for every occasion, including a daytime tote, evening clutch, and travel bag.

The Bag Snob handbags will be priced between $265 and $565. You can reserve them through DKNY’s Facebook page now ahead of their October release.
