Coach shows some uncharacteristic sparkle with this Occasion sequin wristlet.

I’ve never seen Coach quite so spangly as it appears here. Gone are the signature prints we typically expect from the line, replaced instead with a cacophony of glittering gold sequins. If you look closely you can see Coach’s signature metal logo peeking through all those sparkly discs. Label lovers might wish that branding was more pronounced, but I’m happy it’s obscured. Those sequins really should take center stage!

It’s got a much shinier wrapper, but really the Occasion is just your average wristlet. It has a traditional plump pouch shape and a golden leather wrist loop to match those sequins. This strap is detachable to help the Occasion work double duty as a clutch.

I like that versatility because the Occasion really is a purse that could work during the day or night. Its sequins make it seem like a special occasion purse at first glance, but I can imagine it looking great with a pair of dark denims before the sun goes down.

That versatility makes this cute Coach purse a real steal for $58. It might be a small wristlet, but I can imagine it making a big impression!

Ann Timson, the flame-haired granny who shot to fame when she apprehended sledgehammer-wielding crooks with her handbag in February, has been honored for her bravery.

The Northampton local was awarded the Jill Dando gong at The Sun’s annual Police Bravery Awards. The title is reserved for a member of the public who’s shown great courage. Well Miss Timson certainly did that! I’m sure most of us wouldn’t have beaten up thugs with our bag, especially in her advanced years!

Five months on from her brush with the criminals, the woman dubbed Supergran says she wonders when all the fuss will die down.

“I don’t think my actions merited all the recognition and attention,” she humbly told The Sun. “I’ve had some very nice cards and letters from as far away as Australia. “I suppose reading my letters and receiving the Jill Dando Award shows I’ve inspired people.“

Ann Timson certainly seems to have done that. The video posted above, showing the pensioner socking it to the would-be jewelry thieves, has been viewed thousands of times. She’s also been interviewed by media all around the world. I say enjoy your extended 15 minutes of fame Miss Timson. You’ve definitely done enough to deserve them!

Guess is back to its old tricks with this Visage east-west satchel. Fans of the label are likely to love its exotic impersonation, but I can’t imagine this satchel will win the brand any new fans.

When done well, exotic embossing can be a wonderful way to enjoy a rich finish for less. When done poorly however, the mimicry just makes the bag’s material appear cheaper. Sadly that’s what’s happened here. The ostrich embossed based isn’t too bad, but the crocodile trim is terrible. This skin has a cheap, plastic like sheen which is really unbecoming, and its scales lack realism. The mix of embossing is confusing; it actually makes the Visage seem less luxurious, not more as was intended.

The Visage isn’t without merits though. Guess’ subdued color palette shows uncharacteristic restraint, and the bow works well with the structured design to give the Visage an on-trend retro feel. It’s just a shame that Guess chose to over-embellish those attractive base elements.

If you like Guess’ heavy handed approach to design though, you probably won’t find fault with the bag as a whole. It’s a good size for everyday use, and its zippered pocket and trio of open pockets exceeds our expectations.

It’s not to my tastes, but Guess fans are getting a decent deal here for $125.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by many of the accessories from pop star Jessica Simpson’s signature fashion line. Sadly though, the Bliss tote isn’t one of these accessories.

The Bliss tote isn’t a bad tote per se, but it’s far too ordinary to deserve such a glowing moniker. The crocodile embossing is okay, but nothing to write home about, and the puckering around the base of the bag seems really awkward. I don’t mind the camel color, or any of the other hues available, but they are also a bit underwhelming. It’s all very pleasant, but incredibly middle of the road.

The interior shows a little more individuality, with its zippered central compartment, side pockets, and handy key clip. These functional features work with the zippered back pocket to create the kind of bag that makes staying organized easy.

But does anyone really think keeping our cargo in order is blissful? Even for a relatively affordable $98, I think Jessica Simpson has missed the mark here.

Domakaya bags certainly aren’t high fashion, but there’s a real charm to them. I can’t fault their craftsmanship, and it’s refreshing to find a label that’s just a little bit silly. Are you a fan of the label’s woolen designs?

Big Buddha takes the path less traveled, making its Houston feel rebellious not through studs and grommets but by some cleverly placed chains.

Chains are nothing new for creating rock and roll edge, but they tend to form the handles, or be laid haphazardly over the design. Big Buddha obscures them a bit, embedding them in the seams so we get just a glimpse of heavy metal.

I really like the look, which punches up the messenger-style cross-body with its gentle camel-colored leatherette. Without the chains the Houston would have been very pedestrian, but their addition makes the design something original and contemporary.

The Houston’s not all about looks though. It’s made for business, with a zippered pocket on the back and more leatherette trimmed pouches inside the ample interior. The strap is long and adjustable, and strangely attachable. Big Buddha says this allows us to use the purse as a clutch, although you’ll never be able to utilize all its space if you do. Without a handle it’ll simply become unwieldy when loaded up.

It might not be the perfect evening clutch, but Big Buddha definitely delivers a great day bag here for an affordable $84.95.

Indian designer Rachana Reddy is a graduate of the Cordwainers-London College of Fashion, but her homeland is never far from her mind. Her clutch purses are adorned with the motifs of her birthplace, and carefully handcrafted by the country’s artisans.

The clutch pictured is the Padma, and Rachana Reddy’s signature purse. It shares its name with the Sanskrit word for lotus flower, and this traditional blossom adorns the front of this teak wood clutch. Even if the Rachana Reddy purses don’t come complete with the good karma of their traditional accents, it’s hard to resist their clean designs and delicate artistry. All too often we see Indian style purses covered in intricate beading and sequins, so it’s refreshing to find a collection that’s much simpler and more modern.

All too often Mary Frances’ creations can get a bit kitschy. They come across as novelty items rather than the works of art they should be. But the designer gets things just right here, without ever compromising any of her individuality. A Middle Eastern theme is perfect for Mary Frances’ extravagance. Layering large faceted gemstones over tiny beads over tightly pleated ikat fabric doesn’t seem over the top in the slightest; it’s just meant to be.

Don’t make the mistake of pairing this purse with something too over the top though. It’s meant to shine, rather than competing with your attire. This clutch will look its best with a little black dress, or another simple evening choice. You could even get away with pairing with it with jeans during the day if you know how to travel light.

The Ruby Tuesday doesn’t have a lot of space for personal items, and its frame design doesn’t allow for over-stuffing. However it should handle the bare basics with ease.

I worry about the beading popping off, so I’m thrilled to see the Ruby Tuesday comes with a beautiful beaded strap. With less time underneath your fingertips, the design should stay secure.

I often balk at Mary Frances’ high prices, despite the work that goes into her bags. Around $300 is a lot to spend on her more novelty style items, but the more timeless Ruby Tuesday is tempting me.
