Phillip Lim makes his place in the fashion world at the corner of minimal and upper crust. This Lynus shoulder bag is a great example of the line’s signature aesthetic.

The lipstick red leather on the Lynus is impossible to ignore. I love it when red is just right, and this red is absolutely spot on perfect. And its sleek texture is perfectly offset by the luxuriousness of the black rabbit trim.

The shape of the Lynus is a great combination of classic and cutting edge. The smooth, flap front design is accented with a simple closure that’s very modern. The black and red straps have a deeply textured, almost treaded, design that is very motorcycle chic, but the rabbit trim detail keeps the look undeniably posh.

I really just can’t say enough about the Lynus. It’s simple, but unique, and well worth the $550 price tag.

Chocolate delivers a floral handbag with real depth with this Beth hobo.

I really appreciate the way that Chocolate builds up this bag, working with three dimensions to create a garden that really pops. I’m not entirely happy with all the blooms though. The structured water lily like flowers are so neat and gorgeous, but those with the tassels leave me a bit cold. Perhaps these synthetic threads were meant to mimic stamen, but they just seem a bit messy. This is one of those cases where less would have been more.

While I’m griping it’s worth mentioning that those dramatic flowers are noticeably absent from the back of the bag. We’re used to this kind of corner cutting from Chocolate, but it’s still disappointing. The zippered pocket we find there will come in handy, but I’d still have preferred more poseys!

That color is also lacking. Chocolate calls it sage green, but this grayish hue is much blander than that description suggests. The Beth looks like a bag that knows how to have fun, but its color isn’t keeping pace.

The Beth doesn’t quite live up to its promise, but its attention to detail is certainly worth its reasonable $100 price tag.

Paris Hilton will meet and greet fans in Manila tomorrow to celebrate the opening of her fourth boutique in The Philippines.

The American socialite will appear at her new Paris Hilton Handbags and Accessories store at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City from 4 pm. Fans who purchase one of Hilton’s signature purses before the event will receive a pass to get up and close and personal with the glamorous heiress.

The SM Megamall store joins Hilton’s other Philippines outlets in Pasay City’s Resorts World Manila, Davao City’s Abreeza Mall-Davao, and the other Manila store at Robinsons Place-Ermita. And that’s only the start of Hilton’s Asian endeavors. The socialite has recently partnered with Century Properties to design a beach clubhouse for the six-hectare Azure Residences.

Hilton arrived in Manila on Sunday, and has no doubt been busy with all those business plans. She hopes to have a little time for leisure though before returning to the United States. After meeting boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee in Las Vegas last May, Hilton is apparently keen for a reunion. And after all that publicity and business work, I’d say she definitely deserves some time for rest and relaxation during her Philippines getaway!

I’ve been impressed by Chloe’s diffusion label, but every now and then I crave a little more luxury. This Patty shopper from the fashion house’s signature brand definitely hits the spot.

This shopper oozes sophistication. Its two-tone flap brings just a hint of contemporary flair to the traditional structured design. I love the way the brassy hardware looks against the nutty brown leather, and the tote’s overall air of elegance.

At $1695 the Patty is on the expensive side, but it’s so versatile I’m sure you’ll get your money’s worth. It wouldn’t look out of place in the boardroom or at a swish restaurant. It could even make your classic jeans and tee-shirt combo look a bit more posh. The Patty’s a really good size for everyday use, with enough space for the things you really need. Its leather bound zippered pocket and pair of open pouches are also on hand to keep things in order.

The handles could stand to be a bit longer though. You’ll be able to sling it over your shoulder, but the fit will be quite snug. An extra inch or two would have given us the breathing room we need to be truly comfortable.

I wouldn’t mind a little inconvenience to have the Patty on my arm though. Are you smitten too?

Juicy Couture is celebrating its youthful side with its colorful fall 2011 advertising campaign. Famed fashion photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot the ad in New York City with Brazilian model Raquel Zimmermann.

The advertising campaign is somewhat appropriately called “Couture is Here.” Well with all that color and movement, that fact was never in question! The company’s president and CCO LeAnn Nealz said the label aimed to play up the “couture” part of its name with these advertisements which emphasize its “fun, glamorous, unapologetic side.”

Frankly I think this ad is a bit messy. It’s hard to even find the cute mini handbag and top handled satchel amongst all the clutter. These bags are right on trend though, emulating the looks we’ve seen on the fall runways nicely. And knowing Juicy Couture, we’ll get them for a lot less than the high end labels will charge! Satchels are never really out of vogue, but small cross-body purses like this have gained recent momentum as a hands-free clutch alternative.

Look for the ads in the September editions of popular fashion magazines including Vanity Fair, Bazaar, Vogue, and its little sister Teen Vogue. The new handbags and the rest of the Juicy Couture collection will begin to arrive in the label’s boutiques this month.

An assortment of studs helps this simple Crossroads tote from Chinese Laundry pop.

The combination of synthetic covered studs and bare metal is interesting. I’m not sure I’m entirely sold on the mix, but it’s a lot fresher than the usual selection of silver accents. Perhaps I’d be more enthusiastic if the studs were arranged a bit better. The sweeping stripes Chinese Laundry’s created don’t really rev me, although that’s a matter of personal taste.

Perhaps Chinese Laundry agrees, because it’s abandoned the decorations altogether on the back. Instead we find a handy zippered pocket, which will sit snugly against your body for even greater security. I’d use it for holding my car keys, as they’d be safe but easily accessible.

The Crossroads is luxuriously large, but its central zip pocket ensures it doesn’t feel unmanageable. It divides the interior into three user-friendly compartments. Add a pair of gadget pouches and a long zippered pocket in the side wall and there’s no excuse for disorganization!

I don’t think the Crossroads is Chinese Laundry’s best tote, but its affordable $98 price tag still makes it a tempting proposition.

New York designer Caitlin Mociun has teamed up with reusable shopping bag label Baggu for a colorful limited edition tote collection.

Mociun’s Bahaus influenced patterns really liven up Baggu’s reusable shopping bags. There are five different prints available, including black, tiles, and black and white zig zag.

As with all Baggu bags, the vibrant Caitlin Mociun designs are printed on ripstop nylon material. This material is compact when folded up and very lightweight, but made to withstand up to 25 pounds. That should ensure they won’t break when they’re filled up with groceries or gym gear. The nylon is also machine washable, so you needn’t worry if your meat leaks on the way home from the farmer’s markets!

We all know we should be using reusable rather than those evil plastic things. But what you might not know is the average consumer takes home 500 plastic bags a year. When you multiply that number by all the people on your street, in your neighborhood, and even on the planet you realize the sheer magnitude of the problem. That’s a lot of plastic destined for landfill. Hopefully collaborations like this one will make reusable shoppers that much more attractive.

The regular Mociun for Baggu shopping tote bags cost $12, a $4 mark-up on the average Baggu totes. Alternatively you can buy a small zippered pouch set for $10, or a medium zippered pouch set for $14. They’re all available for a limited time from the Baggu website.

Allow me to fantasize for a bit, to pretend that I have a bulging bank account and that I live in a grime free world. Because if I did live in the land of my imagination, I’d snap up this Carlos Falchi Kite Bag.

This bag is all about that gorgeous Caiman fuscus crocodile. It shines like a neon sign in white. The pale fabric helps us marvel at each and every scale. And marveling I am, even if it’s not very PC these days to celebrate animal skins. Looking at a bag like this makes you realize just how far embossed leathers must come if they’re going to compete.

The Kite is a fairly simple bag, with a very natural slouchy shape. It’s enormous too, which only gives us more crocodile to marvel over. The spacious interior is well appointed with a zippered pocket, pair of gadget slips, and even some holders for pens and lipsticks. Not that I’d feel comfortable carrying lipstick anywhere near a white bag!

PETA needn’t hunt me down though, because while I’m smitten I’ll never be able to afford to spend $4495 on a handbag. And even if I could come up with the cash, I’d never fork it over for a bag that will show stains after a season.
