Emilie Sloan delivers a cute purse for girls who like to travel light with this Gracie coinlet.

This coinlet is essentially a coin purse, but its front pocket and clear ID slot make it much more versatile than the average. Emilie Sloan really does a lot with a relatively small space. The front pocket is complemented by the zippered main compartment. This is large by coin purse standards; I think you could even fit a slim-line cell phone in here if you know how to pack it right. The key ring lets you attach your keys, so you needn’t waste time scrounging for them.

The Gracie’s looks are really what we’d expect from Emilie Sloan. It’s not especially fashion forward, particularly when it comes to shape, but there’s a certain charm to the aqua colored art deco print. The Gracie is made from plainweave and given an easy to keep clean plastic coating.

The Gracie will be most at home inside a larger tote, but I imagine it’d also make a cute clutch alternative for those days when you don’t need a lot of excess cargo. It might be small, but Emilie Sloan’s delivered plenty for our $15.

Accessories designer Heather Belle has designed a collection of tote bags and jewelry inspired by ABC Family’s teen drama Pretty Little Liars.

Rather than mimicking the accessories worn by the program’s always fashionable young actresses, the items celebrate the memorable quotes and themes of the dark drama series. Heather Belle’s Pretty Little Liars collection features four separate lines: three jewelry ranges and one with totes and bracelets.

The four handbags, which are part of the Never Forget selection, are emblazoned with the quotations of dearly departed Alison and the mysterious A. The messenger style totes cost $30, while the standard totes are a bit pricier at $55. Their messages probably won’t mean much to anyone who hasn’t tuned into watch the program, but I predict they’ll be a big hit with fans. These cotton canvas tote bags sit alongside the similarly themed Forget Me Not bracelets.

Heather Belle’s Pretty Little Liars collection also features Pin, I See You, and Be Nice lines made up of bracelets, necklaces, stick pins, bangles, rings, and cuffs. The jewelry items are much subtler than the bags, but if you’re a big fan of the series you won’t necessarily want subtle!

Elliott Lucca interprets classic vintage style with this elegant Alicante satchel.

This handbag has all the hallmarks of a bygone fashion era, from its structured frame to its delicate clasp. Its woven finish calls to mind the classic designs of Bottega Veneta. This purse costs far less than a Bottega Veneta creation though; while these designer bags cost upwards of four figures you’ll score the Alicante for less than $200!

I appreciate Elliott Lucca’s attempt to modernize this framed satchel, but I’m not convinced by its execution. The colored chains accenting the handles are a bit too chunky for the rest of the bag, and messy to boot. They’re interesting, but they also don’t really gel with the design.

The interior isn’t all that exciting but it is serviceable. A large zippered pocket and pair of open pouches help keep the polyester lined space organized. This is a decent size, but perhaps not as large as modern misses would like. After all, that frame design means the clasp will pop open under pressure, so what you see is really what you get.

It’s not perfect, but there’s a lot to like about this eggshell white satchel, especially for the money. The black one is also an appealing option, but I’d steer clear of the python printed and pyrite versions if I were you. Such a traditional style doesn’t deserve so much glitz!

Fiorelli will add two new handbag collections to its range for spring 2012. The signature line will continue to be its flagship, but it will be complemented by a youth line and another range celebrating the brand’s heritage.

The signature collection will continue to feature fashion-forward designs in its regular seasonal and cruise offerings. Next season’s pieces include snake-printed purses, woven accessories, and a collection of color-blocked bags.

The youth line, called Fiorelli London, is targeted at 15 to 24 year olds. It will also follow key trends but feature a much bolder color palette. Its neon hues, shocking reds, and strong polka dot and stripe prints are sure to turn heads!

If all that sounds too much for you, the Fiorelli Established 1988 range may be more your speed. This line takes us back to Fiorelli’s roots with its classic shapes, colors, and textures. Large shoulder bags with zippered pockets and flap tops are some of the signature pieces from this heritage range.

The new Fiorelli collections will be available from Fiorelli stores and other selected retailers, including the brand’s website, from spring 2012.

Ellington offers a modern twist on the traditional hobo with this Sarah bag.

In many ways this is your classic hobo, with its soft slouchy silhouette and relaxed vibe. However it’s the modern additions, which add functionality and flair, that help the Sarah stand apart. The shape is more a bucket than a crescent, and that creates a more user-friendly structure. Its flattened base gives it stability once it’s set down, and we’re afforded a little more storage space.

I also really like the diagonal stitching which decorates the lush red leather. This modern take on quilting ensures this hobo doesn’t feel too boho, and it’s a more versatile bag for it. The rest of the design is clean and simple, allowing those little details to shine.

The interior isn’t just spacious but well appointed too, with an array of pockets and even a key clip. The pockets are trimmed with more of that vibrant red leather to help them stack up to daily punishment.

I love the way that red is becoming a neutral, but if you’re still not on board you can also find the Sarah in more conservative black. Both choices are available for an affordable $209.

Phillip Lim isn’t one of the best known designers out there, but his minimal influence can be seen throughout the fashion kingdom. This Pashli shark effect tote really shows off his clean aesthetic.

I don’t really understand what “shark effect” means in terms of this material. It’s a beautifully textured black leather, but there’s nothing particularly aquatic or predatory about it. It doesn’t really look like shark skin is what I’m trying to say, but it’s a lovely leather nonetheless.

The design of the Pashli is a standout. It’s always impressive when a designer can reinvigorate a traditional style, and what’s more traditional than a tote? This tote, however, is different. While it utilizes the usual tote shape, it makes it look totally tailored and new. The flap top closure is a start, and the long zippered pockets on the front accentuate the lines of the bag and add an edgy little touch.

With Lim, most of the beauty is found in the details, and the details on the Pashli are just perfect. The patch reinforcements on the bottom are a cool and utilitarian touch, and the slick lock closure is a great modern touch. The Pashli is a versatile everyday bag that will stay cool for eons.

Miu Miu is sometimes super over-the-top, and sometimes remarkably on point. Fortunately, this wool tote falls into the latter category. It’s the very definition of low key feminine charm.

The wool felt fabric of the bag is perfect for the style. It’s got a sweet softness, but it’s also sturdy, and holds the structured look beautifully. The color couldn’t be more timeless. The look is a bit winter/fall, but we’re heading there soon enough.

This simple satchel style needs no embellishment, and luckily, Miu Miu hasn’t added any. The clean, rounded edges of the back soften the look up slightly without taking away from the overall sleek design. The clean lines of the gold top frame accent the shape, and bring out the coolness of the color. The slim shoulder strap isn’t the epitome of practicality, but it’ll do the job well enough.

This is a beautiful bag that could work in many wardrobes and will never look dated. What more can you ask for?

Elie Tahari embraces minimalist style with this Melody Tote.

Totes are rarely as simple as this one. Its dark blue denim is cut in a traditional box shape and silver chain straps are threaded through. There are no ruffles or frills, no sequins or studs, not even a nameplate to break up the expanse of indigo blue. Personally I don’t think the material is interesting enough to hold our interest in such a simple design.

I’m also nervous about the way the Melody would work in a wardrobe. Many of us live in our jeans, and the natural temptation would be to pair this large tote with them. However I’m concerned that could look a little too matchy-matchy. But if it’s not worn with jeans, what would this tote work with?

I must admit, I am impressed with the interior. When a tote appears so simple, I expect very little when I look inside. However Elie Tahari delivers a zippered pocket, open pouches for gadgets, and even a card slip. The snap closure isn’t the most secure clasp, but it does the job.

At $298 this tote is pretty cheap by Elie Tahari standards, but I still don’t think it’s worth the money. This bag is so simple that I think I could make it in an afternoon on my sewing machine. It might have a designer pedigree, but I’m not seeing enough flair for my fashion dollar.

Ageless supermodel Iman has joined forces with the Home Shopping Network for the release of the Platinum Collection. Despite its luxurious name, the range features mid-priced clothes, handbags, and other accessories.

Despite their relatively affordable price tags, every purse from the HSN collection is made from real leather or suede. The buttery skins are rendered in a range of neutral but interesting colors including cognac, red, and forest green. The bags are then accented with pony hair panels, golden studs and cute cut-outs.

Iman told gatherers at her launch party that “Accessories make the girl – and the boy, for that matter.” If that’s true, her collection should help to complete the wardrobes of plenty of folks across America.

The range’s handbags are complemented by knit sheath dresses, croc-embossed and faux shearling draped jackets, and other apparel items. And best of all, with sizes ranging from extra small to triple extra large, they really are suitable for women of all shapes and sizes.

The first installment of the Iman Platinum Collection is currently available through the Home Shopping Network website. And there’s more where this came from; look out for a winter-ready second coming, which will include a faux mink coat, on October 26.

Etienne Aigner serves up another dependable handbag with this Gentry tote.

The Gentry isn’t very fashion forward, but it is super stylish. The rounded bucket shape makes a refreshing change of pace from the typical boxy tote. Its curves are subtly emphasized by elegant stitching. I’m not always a fan of brown bags, but this maple shade has an appealing weathering to it that’s won me over. If it’s not your cup of tea you can always choose the ever-reliable black bag.

The Gentry’s looks don’t stand out, but its practical perks certainly do. There’s a zippered pocket on the front and another one on the back, and that’s all before we open up the top! There we find a mid-sized compartment divided into three sections by a large zippered center pouch. Those separate sections mean you can’t fit as much inside the Gentry as you might have, but what you do carry will stay organized.

Considering its classic style and high quality materials, I think the Gentry is a bargain at $160. That’s very affordable for a bag that’s destined to become one of your wardrobe staples.
