Tod’s might not have shown a lot of ingenuity here, but it shows form by playing it safe with the In Forma Tote.

Tod’s knows that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you create a handbag. Clean lines, classic neutrals, and high quality leather will always impress. The In Forma might not immediately attract attention, but its simplicity is striking enough to draw a few admiring glances.

Chances are the women who’ve bought it didn’t indulge to stand out though. They were looking for a wardrobe staple, a bag to serve them no matter what’s in vogue. The In Forma’s timeless design defies seasons and trends, continuing to look fresh as a daisy no matter what. It’s quite sophisticated, but that doesn’t mean it won’t lend itself to casual occasions. I imagine it’d make your classic jeans and tee ensemble look that bit more special.

Its looks drew me in, but it’s got those little touches that are really practical too. It’s on the large size of medium, so we get plenty of space without feeling overwhelmed. Its interior has the usual trio of pockets, but that’s all we really need to keep the interior organized. I also appreciate the metal feet, which protect the luscious leather on the base. Its straps are a shade shorter than I’d like, but that’s really the only flaw I can find!

Its $1595 is a bit prohibitive for girls on a tight budget, but it’s not unreasonable for a classic designer bag of such quality.

Harveys is getting into the summer spirit with the release of its new Summer Luvin’ Mixers collection.

The Summer Luvin’ Mixers totes are inspired by summery drinks with their bright colors and cocktail names. There’s the Pina Colada with its yellow and white hues, the Raspberry Margarita in magenta and amethyst, and the Mint Julep with its woven two-tone green finish, to name but a few. As we’d expect from Harvey’s, each one is crafted from woven seatbelts.

The Summer Luvin’ Mixer totes are on the small side, with each one measures 8 inches high, 8 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. That may be a little small for some modern girls, but it’s large enough to hold everything you need if you pack it carefully. And at $94, the Summer Luvin’ Mixer totes aren’t badly priced either, especially considering each one comes with a Tough for Life guarantee. This assurance means Harveys will repair any manufacturing defects, free of charge, for the life of the bag.

The Summer Luvin’ Mixers line is really more of the same from Harveys, but if it ain’t broke there’s really no impetus to fix it. The seasonal color palette should bring enough freshness for Harveys fans, although I can’t imagine this collection will win the label any new admirers.

The SAK takes a break from its usual bohemian fare with the surprisingly classic Reggio satchel.

After seeing so many crocheted, fringed, hippie dippy bags from the label, I was taken aback by this fairly pedestrian design. On one hand I miss the label’s usual quirkiness, but on the other it’s refreshing to see The SAK creating something so wearable. The Reggio is the kind of satchel you could carry everywhere, in any season, for many years to come.

While it’s not as distinctive as many of the label’s bags, it’s really well put together. Its brown leather is buttery soft, and the red accents give it a little pop. It’s generously sized, with plenty of pockets inside and out. Large leather bags like this can get a bit unwieldy once they’re full, but the detachable cross-body strap should make it a bit more manageable.

The Reggio’s a bag that’s hard to fault, especially for the money. At $109 it’s far cheaper than most leather bags on the market, yet it seems The SAK hasn’t skimped. While it might not attract the eyeballs of many of TheSAK’s kookier creations, it still represents real value.

The Jesse B. Collection embraces its feminine side with the Blueberry Fizz.

At its heart this is the same old Jesse B. Collection clutch. Its simple frame design would be boring if The Jesse B. Collection didn’t continue to play with fabrics and accents. And it’s really played here, using a soft girly silk and adding a great big bow.

I think the accent is delightful, and really makes this purse a head turner. However The Jesse B. Collection knows it won’t suit everyone, so it makes the detail removable. Personally I think the Blueberry Fizz is a bit lackluster without the bow, but I concede the cleaner design would probably work better for formal occasions.

The Blueberry Fizz is really all about its pretty exterior. Inside it’s very plain, with just a tiny slide pocket and cotton pique lining. Modern girls will probably want for a shoulder strap, but this lightweight bag is easy enough to carry by hand. The convenience would have been nice, but at this price I’m not about to quibble.

This Jesse B. Collection clutch is quite simple, but that will help it endure season after season. That timeless quality makes the already affordable $90 price tag seem like a real bargain.

British designer Hayley Miller will launch her first handbag collection next month. A debut launch is worth celebrating for any designer, but it’s even more remarkable in Miller’s case as until last summer, she was homeless.

Miller left her family home at the tender age of 15 when her parents urged her to quit school and find employment. She resisted and continued with her education from a hostel inhabited by drug addicts. When she wasn’t studying she spent time drawing and designing the handbags she hoped would land her a BTEC in fashion design.

Last summer, Miller left the hostel and moved in with her grandmother. Armed with 55 handbag designs, she researched the steps required to launch her own line.

“I did accounting courses, a Prince’s Trust course, then I wrote an 18-page ‘to do’ list to start up your own business,” she explained to The Sun.

She found the right manufacturer and an investor, and soon Hayley Miller Designs Ltd began to take shape. Luxury online store Bag Servant has already signed on to sell her bags, and Selfridges is also showing interest.

Hayley Miller’s story just goes to show that you can achieve anything with talent and drive, no matter where you’re starting from. Here’s hoping her handbags take off in Britain and beyond!

Tepper Jackson can’t organize your leave or vacation budget, but it can make planning your next trip a little easier with this Getaway Carryall Tote.

The Japanese style Lotus flower print is a fun take on a traditional floral. Pale blue flowers are complemented by modern outlined blooms. This blue color scheme is my favorite, but the same print is also available in a red and brown palette. I’m less impressed by the more traditional floral pattern available, but I can’t fault Tepper Jackson for giving us a few choices.

This Getaway Carryall Tote isn’t the most luxurious on the market. Its material is cheap and cheerful, as we might expect for the price. But it’s got all the features we could ask for and plenty of space. I think it’s amply sized in the regular mode, but you can open up the snaps on the end if you need a bit more room. There’s just a single pocket inside, but that should be enough to keep your small items organized.

I can imagine the Getaway Carryall tote making an excellent piece of hand luggage or serving as your travel bag on a weekend away. And at $119.99, you should have a little more spending money left than you’d expect!

After a four-year hiatus, Elle is rebooting its spinoff magazine Elle Accessories in the United States.

While selected overseas markets have continued to publish the fashion glossy guide focusing on handbags, jewelry, and footwear, American operations closed in 2008 after three years on shelves.

The time seems right for Elle Accessories to enjoy a new lease on life, as luxury fashion has prospered despite the economic downturn.

“In 2008 and 2009 these businesses were so stressed,” explained David Carey, president of Elle Accessories’ publisher, Hearst Magazines. “The high end today is very strong at retail and as a result is very strong for the magazines.“

It seems key retailers are already embracing the reintroduction of Elle Accessories. Neiman Marcus will run a 12-page insert created exclusively for the fall issue, and it plans further collaborations including online advertising. Neiman Marcus will also have copies of the first issue sent to its most loyal customers.

The revamped Elle Accessories will commence with a fall edition, with twice yearly issues to follow. Some copies will be bundled with Elle’s October issue, while others will be sold as standalone publications in selected stores including Barnes & Noble. In a sign of the times, a digital edition for e-readers and tablets will also be available.
