I’m not sure I’ve ever given Bottega Veneta a bad review. Maybe an ambivalent one, but never bad. It seems like I never will, either, because it has got their design skills down pat. This leather leaf clutch is a great example of its sophisticated style, with a little bit of drama thrown in for good measure.

The material of this clutch is the main draw. It’s not that the leather itself is so spectacular, although it is really soft and supple. The leaf cut outs are what make the bag, though. They have a really voluminous effect on the bag and a lot of dramatic flair, but are still elegant. How many things can you say that about?

The shape of this bag is nice and simple. What else could it be, really, with all this texture going on on the material? Nonetheless, it’s well-chosen. Any rounder and this bag would have looked, well, hairy. This is the kind of eye-catching design that transcends everything going on in fashion but still manages to look unbelievably hip.

You have to pay dearly, of course, for such a keenly well-balanced design. But what’s $4,000 for a lifetime of infallible fashionability?

Latico delivers a little bit of luxury for a very little price with this Mackie Wristlet.

Its body is made from snake textured leather, rather than authentic snakeskin, but the material is still opulent. The graduated hues help make the skin a very good exotic mimic, especially for the price.

Latico lets this scaly finish do much of the talking, keeping the rest of the accents to a practical minimum. The only details are a long zippered pocket up front and a chain linked wrist strap. I’m not sure the silver hardware is the best match with brown. Something tells me that gold would have looked a bit more luxe. But this is a minor quibble.

More concerning to me is the Mackie’s very narrow design. At just half an inch wide, we’re restricted to the very barest of essentials. I don’t mind that a bag that encourages us to travel light, but its small stature is worth considering if you’re usually a pack rat.

Personally I see value for the $59 here. To discover any leather accessory for that price, no matter how small, is a real find.

Cosmetics company Clarins clearly enjoyed its recent partnership with altruistic organization FEED Projects, as it’s doing it all again. The companies have just released a colorful new Clarins FEED 15 pouch, which comes just a few months after the launch of the original version.

The tribal inspired purse is the handiwork of Claire Courtin-Clarins, the granddaughter of Clarins’ founder Jacques Courtin-Clarins. Ms Courtin-Clarins designed the rainbow hued purse which is crafted from hand-loomed fabrics from Guatemala. It seems she’s a fan of her design as she was spotted carrying it as a clutch during the recent New York Fashion Week.

But it wouldn’t be a Clarins creation if it didn’t come with a few cosmetics goodies. The new Clarins FEED 15 pouch comes filled with three of the make-up manufacturer’s biggest sellers: the Beauty Flash Balm, Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate Pen and Instant Light National Lip Perfector.

And when FEED Projects is involved you also know your money is doing good. When you spend $60 on this cute purse from Nordstrom you’ll fund ten meals for students in need through the United Nations World Food Programme.

Bottega Veneta is blowing my mind with this Urban leather bag. It’s convertible, it’s beautiful, it’s modern, it’s retro. It’s basically perfect.

Bambi never looked so good as she does on this Urban bag. I’m sorry. I know that was in bad taste. But seriously, who would have thought that deerskin would look so unbelievably posh? Not I. In any case, the material has an amazingly smooth texture that really works up against the intricate lace design.

The design of this bag is genius. You can wear it just how you see it, or you can separate it into two different bags. They’re both cross-body carryalls, and each will serve you equally well. This leather and lace style is seriously enviable, even for Bottega Veneta.

At over $4,000, the price on the Urban is a little steep, but since it’s two bags in one, it almost seems reasonable.

See by Chloe has been a little inconsistent in the past few seasons, but I’m more than willing to overlook that if the label keeps putting out great bags like this Carmen shoulder bag. It’s got a streamlined ladylike aesthetic that is hip but versatile.

The purple ostrich effect leather on the Carmen is a real winner. Most ostrich embossing doesn’t end up looking very realistic, but this one does despite the almost overwhelming color. Speaking of the color, I find it very refreshing in a world of neons and neutrals. It’s got an instantly eye-catching pop, but is still a little subdued. In that way, it’s a very true lilac hue.

The shape of the Carmen is really ideal. It’s got a retro feminine aesthetic that will work with a lot of different styles because the color keeps it looking so modern. The antiqued gold clasp reminds you that this is definitely an old-fashioned design, but without looking stuffy or prissy.

At around $550, the Carmen is a pretty in purple addition to the See by Chloe line.

Lanvin takes us back to the seventies with this retro inspired Miss Sartorial shoulder bag.

It might sound undesirable to travel back to that decade, a time when the pairing of brown and khaki was celebrated, but it’s actually right on trend. On a different purse I might find that colorblocked combo drab, but I think Lanvin has chosen just the right shades to make it work. The golden hardware ties it all together nicely.

The Miss Sartorial’s design is very clean, polished and poised without feeling too stiff. That makes it very versatile, the kind of purse you could carry to coffee with the girls or a dinner to meet the parents. That versatility is matched with a practical design. The interior is spacious, with plenty of handy pockets. The strap is just long enough to easily sling over your shoulder.

The $2500 will be the big stumbling block for many girls, but if you’ve got the cash to spare and a taste for all things vintage I don’t think you’ll regret this investment.

La Regale goes tribal for this earthy Stone & Bead Flap Clutch.

This purse is much more rustic than most of La Regale’s accessory offerings. Rather than high class embellishments like soft gathered satin and sparkling Swarovski crystals, La Regale opts for natural stones and beads. These tiny spheres are arranged in concentric circles which decorate the angled front flap. The beads are all in earth tones to complement the clutch’s bronze-colored satin body.

Those beads have a bohemian hippie chic charm to them, so I’m disappointed to see they’re not continued on the back. Disappointed, but at the same time not altogether surprised. La Regale is notorious for this kind of corner cutting. It might seem like laziness, but it also helps the label price a purse like this at just $45.

Thankfully it hasn’t forgotten the things that count, including a relatively large interior by clutch standards, and a convenient cross-body strap. A zippered pocket would have been more practical than the open one we’re given, but that’s really just nitpicking.

Here La Regale’s given us a stylish alternative to more traditional evening purses, and also an affordable one.

Faith Nicole has finally added day bags to her Flaunt Fashion line. The trio of European inspired purses is the latest addition to the collection, which already features women’s travel bags and accessories.

Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. label has created a bag for busy girls with the Torsten.

One look at this handbag and you know it means business. The ripstop fabric body is made to withstand punishment, and the large front pockets are ideal for stashing the items you need on hand. It also comes in black, which while not the most exciting shade works with absolutely everything.

There’s nothing wrong with practical design, but I wish the Torsten came with a bit more design flair. The most exciting part is that woven strap, and when the strap is the highlight you know you’ve taken a few wrong creative turns.

For what it is though, this bag delivers. The cute strap is adjustable, so you can wear it as a shoulder bag or cross-body. There’s more of the ripstop fabric inside, and plenty of synthetic lined pockets.

I think I’d resent the Torsten more if it were pricier, but at $128 we’re getting a decent deal. It’s far from L.A.M.B.’s crowning glory, but it’s a smart purse for girls on the go.
