Two’s Company Pink Power Weekender Bag | Affordable Paisley Travel Case & Cosmetics Purse

Posted on: Jun 23

Twos Company Pink Power WeekenderTwo’s Company offers up a travel bag that won’t break the bank with this Pink Power Weekender.

You’ll need to be a girly girl to appreciate it, because that pink pattern is very sugary. It’s like a modern take on paisley, with starbursts and circles complementing the usual paisley teardrops. The black handles and trim don’t really gel with the pale pink fabric though. They seem a bit heavy handed, although we don’t expect flawless design for this kind of money.

The weekender is generously sized and well appointed, with four exterior pockets and another one inside. It doesn’t have the finer organizational aids of a high end travel bag, but it should get the job done. I also love the addition of the matching makeup bag. This too is free of functional frills, but it gives us a handy way of separating our cosmetics from our clothes.

This Pink Power Weekender is far from perfect, but it’s hard to find too much fault for just $39.99. That’s a steal for any travel bag, especially when it comes with another purse hidden away inside!

  • An attachable strap
  • Make-up bag measures 5.75 x 7.5 inches
  • Weekender bag measures 14 x 20 inches

Seltzer totes

You’d never guess that the bold graphic totes from New York design firm Seltzer are eco-friendly. They look much more modern than any of the hippie bags sold at your local markets. But this company’s products are as green as they come.

Each one is made from sustainable cotton canvas and screenprinted with natural vegetable inks. They’re created in the United States at an ecologically responsible plant. Once crafted, the totes are then wrapped in eco-friendly packaging before being shipped to waiting customers.

Seltzer also creates greeting cards, paper goods, art prints, and other illustrated items to complement its tote collection.

As if its individual efforts weren’t enough, Seltzer also donates a portion of its proceeds each year to Earth Justice, a non-profit organization which uses legal might to protect the world’s natural resources and our rights to a healthy planet.

The cute totes are affordably priced at just $22 each to encourage more people to trade in their plastic bags. Seltzer sells them through selected museum stores, bookstores, and gift shops in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand. If you can’t find a stockist near you, you can also buy one from the label’s website.

Tusk Capri Colorblocked Evening Wallet | Orange & Black Kidskin Purse

Posted on: Jun 23

Tusk Capri Evening WalletIt seems like every second purse that crosses our path is colorblocked these days. I was beginning to feel a little colorblock fatigue until I spotted this fun Capri wallet from Tusk.

Tusk hasn’t tried to be too clever here. The colorblocked effect is simple, with just three wide vertical stripes running down the length of the purse. I love the pop of orange against black, but the Capri’s also available in jade and navy and red and slate palettes if you prefer. Personally I like the way the orange and black work with Tusk’s sharp signature logo. It all feels very fierce, don’t you think?

It’s worth mentioning the Capri’s buttery soft finish. It’s made from kidskin, or the pelt of a young goat. I’d feel sad about the loss if the resulting leather didn’t feel so sumptuous!

The Capri’s styling doesn’t restrict it to evening wear, but it is on the small side. If you can get by with the bare basics it’ll become a great everyday purse, but there’s really not a lot of room inside.

At $68, the Capri doesn’t need to become an everyday accessory for us to see value though. That’s not a lot to spend on any purse made with such superior materials.

More Features of This Tusk Colorblocked Wallet

  • Clasp closure
  • Lined with fabric and leather
  • Measures 3.75 x 3.5 x 0.5 inches
  • Made in India

Treesje Nolita Cross-Body Bag | Modern Snakeskin Embossed Leather Purse

Posted on: Jun 22

Treesje Nolita Cross-Body BagTreesje isn’t the name on every fashionista’s lips, but it shows it still knows how to impress with this Nolita Cross-Body Bag.

The Nolita cuts a striking figure with its angled shape and bulky golden buckles. The snakeskin texture makes the contemporary design feel that much richer. It will never be mistaken for a genuine exotic, but it provides a great contrast between the matte leather trim.

The Nolita is a petite bag, but with some careful packing it should hold a slender wallet, a few essential cosmetics, and your personal technology. The short handle isn’t the best way to carry this bag, which makes me wonder why Treesje’s added it. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing element after all! What matters most is that Treesje’s also included a longer, detachable cross-body strap for easy carrying. I wish it was more adjustable, as the few inches of variation make little difference, but this is a minor quibble.

At $315 the Nolita isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s also not unreasonable for such a head-turning purse. It’s got a great contemporary feel to it, but by refusing to succumb to trends Treesje’s ensured the design will endure for many seasons to come.

More Features of This Treesje Snakeskin Embossed Cross-Body Bag

  • Magnetic snap closure
  • Fully lined interior
  • A short handle with a 2.5 inch drop
  • An attachable strap with a 20.75 to 22.75 inch drop
  • Measures 8.75 x 3 x 9 inches
  • Made in China

Savorii Boston Boat BagMassachusetts based eco-friendly firm Savorii is a great example of a company doing good for the planet and its people.

Savorii began under the name greenlifesavor in 2009. It was founded by friends united by the concept that fun, innovative, and eco-friendly products reflect the collaborative nature of the community.

Today the company crafts its green handbags from a variety of found materials. Its Boston Boat Bags are made from old sail canvas, while its Boston Symphony Satchels began life as old burlap coffee bean sacks. These bags and others in the collection are just as green inside too; each one is lined in upcycled materials.

Savorii’s handbags are crafted by the poor and homeless citizens in its hometown of Lynn and surrounding neighborhoods. These artisans are given comprehensive training and paid a fair wage for their efforts. Travelon Wheeled Underseat Carry-On Case with Back-Up Bag | Microfiber Travel Set

Posted on: Jun 22

Travelon Wheeled Underseat CarryonTravelon sorts out your travel needs with this Wheeled Underseat Carry-On Case and Back-Up Bag set.

The Wheeled Underseat Carry-On bag is a small suitcase, perfect in addition to a larger piece of luggage or for taking a short getaway. Its spacious main compartment is fitted with a trio of pockets for easy organization. The handy side pocket puts a water bottle at easy reach, while the front compartment is perfect for stashing your boarding pass, passport, and other important travel documents. Its wheels aren’t the high tech 360-degree ones we see on more luxurious travel bags, but they should make manoeuvring through the airport a bit easier.

To call the accompanying tote a Back-Up Bag seems to be selling it short. It’s a full sized tote which will probably become your travel companion while you’re sightseeing. It also folds down for easy storage inside the carry-on bag.

Neither bag is the height of fashion. The microfiber material is hard-wearing but not especially appealing, particularly in that drab khaki hue. Travelon’s also used plastic rather than metal for the zipper pulls, and customers find these attachments break quickly.

But we don’t expect longevity for the money. At $119.99, this is a great value set for the occasional traveler. If you’re a jetsetter though, I suggest investing in something sturdier.

More Features of This Travelon Travel Set

  • Cooler compartment inside wheeled bags for snacks and drinks
  • Tote has an add-a-bag strap to attach it to the carry-on case
  • Wheeled bag measures 14 x 12 xx 8.5 inches

Convicts Embroider Fine Cell Work Bags | British Prisons Put Crims to Work

Posted on: Jun 22

Fine Cell Work Jailbird BagBritain’s prison inmates are putting their free time to good use by participating in Fine Cell Work, a social initiative which gives cons needlepoint skills.

The heiress of British decorating firm Colefax and Fowler founded the scheme in the 1960s. It’s grown to become a thriving program which gives the inmates a small income and something to be proud of. Volunteers from the Royal College of Needlework train the prisoners and liaise with leading designers on the products. Cath Kidston and Tom Dixon are just two of the big names who’ve leant their creative talents to the project.

Fine Cell Work’s inmates create tote bags, throw cushions, quilts, and more. These goods aren’t just crude craft projects either, explained the program’s chief executive officer Katy Emck.

We always knew the work would have to be top quality in order to be saleable in high end markets,” she explained. “The prisoners know that they are stitching for money and that this is professional work that’s highly valued in the outside world. They know they have something to live up to and that’s very good for them.

The average prisoner earns about ₤8 a week for soap, tobacco, and other incidentals. Fine Cell Workers often earn twice this amount. This monetary incentive helps offset the gender stereotype surrounding needlepoint. In fact, three-quarters of Fine Cell Work’s stitchers are men.

Fine Cell Work products are available for purchase through the initiative’s website.

Tory Burch Viva Ella Tote | PVC & Pebbled Leather Carry-All Bag

Posted on: Jun 22

Tory Burch Viva Ella ToteTory Burch helps us get set for the beach with this fun Viva Ella Tote.

The tote offers a playful take on colorblocking, with a pebbled leather stripe near the base and a complementary PVC section at the top. I’m usually a bit reluctant to carry transparent PVC bags, as they strip away any feminine mystery. But this one’s been cleverly crafted to help us maintain our privacy. So long as you stash your personal items at the bottom, the leather portion will hide them from view.

The Viva Ella looks like it’s made for hitting the beach, but its appearance is a bit deceiving. While PVC’s meant to withstand harsh coastal conditions, leather’s a bit more sensitive. If it spends too much time on the sand, it’ll age well before its time.

There’s no reason it needs to be just a beach bag though. The Viva Ella is a fun accessory for toting anywhere in this warm weather. It’ll start to look out of place once fall rolls around, but then you can just store it away until the temperature rises again.

At $295 the Viva Ella tote isn’t exactly a bargain, but it’s cheap enough for a bag that’s only relevant for half the year.

More Features of This Tory Burch PVC & Leather Tote

  • Front pocket underneath circular logo patch
  • A detachable interior zip pocket
  • Leather handles with a 7.5 inch drop
  • Measures 14 x 17.25 x 5.5 inches

Tommy Hilfiger Bermuda Shoulder Bag | Quirky Jute Floral Applique Purse

Tommy Hilfiger Bermuda Shoulder BagTommy Hilfiger celebrates the season with this Bermuda Shoulder Bag.

I’m thankful that this shoulder bag isn’t as busy as a pair of Bermuda shorts, but I’m still not sure Tommy Hilfiger’s homespun decorations will strike a chord with many modern fashionistas. The polyurethane flowers are intricately formed and well crafted, but they seem a bit kitschy.

If you’re going to get away with kitsch in any season though, it’s summer. The Bermuda isn’t the height of fashion, but it’s got a sweet country charm coupled with a pretty low price. I like the way the colorful primary toned blooms pop against the pale jute fabric.

The wooden handle is also gorgeously carved. While it’s smooth, my practical side is still cautious. I haven’t found a wooden handle yet that’s comfortable to carry. The Bermuda is made of a feather-light fabric so it shouldn’t become too weighty, but I still have my reservations.

A few reservations are expected at this price point though. I haven’t found a bag costing less than $100 that ticks all the boxes. But for $88, Tommy Hilfiger’s created a purse with real personality. That’s probably enough to tempt girls with a quirky sense of style.

  • Open top closure
  • Interior zip pocket
  • A wooden handle with a 3.25 inch drop

Haydanhuya Makes Wooden Bags | Quirky Wood Wallets & Handbags

Posted on: Jun 21

Haydanhuya Wallets
We’ve all heard of handbags with wooden handles and accents, but bags crafted entirely from wood are something different. But that’s exactly what Turkish designer Gokham Eryaman creates with his unique fashion label Haydanhuya.

Eryaman began his career as a graphic designer, but his life took a turn when he decided he wanted to work with his hands. With an eye for aesthetics, Eryaman launched Haydanhuya in 2011.

Since its inception, Haydanhuya has released wooden handbags, wallets, and tech cases. Most are made with just a single piece of wood carved and sanded into simple but striking shapes. We’re particularly fond of the two-tone wallets pictured, but Haydanhuya also sells wallets which showcase natural woodgrains, as well as iPhone cases, clutch purses, cross-body bags, and even hand-held wooden briefcases. Wooden spoons and camera grips complement Haydanhuya’s accessories range.

Handcarved wood is a lot greener than many materials used in the fashion world, but it also comes with limitations. The material is very structured, and it can’t be maneuvered the way softer fabrics can. That means each Haydanhuya purse is very simple and minimalist. The wallets for example can handle paper money and credit cards, but they’re not really built for coins.

The Haydanhuya range is available to order via the label’s website.
