Fossil breathes new life into patchwork with this rainbow colored Lola hobo.

The combination of bright hues and chevron style angular swatches makes this hobo feel fun and fresh. It’s not the height of fashion, but it’d be a playful addition to a casual ensemble. Rather than complementing an outfit the colors should add a contrasting pop to whatever you’re wearing.

The Lola’s slender design helps it sit stylishly at your hip. Happily its narrow dimensions don’t limit storage space though, as its soft walls will expand to accommodate more than you’d think. The generously sized interior has the standard array of zip and slip pockets to help keep essential items in order.

The choice of carrying straps is another practical perk. The regular strap is long enough for over-the-shoulder toting, but if you’ve got a distance to travel you may prefer to clip on the longer cross-body one. Both are flat and relatively wide to ensure they sit comfortably in transit.

At $158 this hobo is priced about right for a bag with such an intricate finish and functional design.

Brahmin gives us all the features we love in a tote bag in miniature form with this Mia Mini Bag.

Before you get up in arms about the material, the Mia’s made of croc-embossed leather rather than authentic crocodile. I won’t get into the ethics of killing cows over the reptiles, but it does seem to be a more palatable option for many fashion fans. That’s especially true when the leather is rendered as convincingly as this. The scaly surface looks closer to authentic crocodile than most mimics on the market.

When you look at the images it’s easy to forget this is a mini bag. It’s created with the same attention to detail as larger handbags, from its elegant turn-lock closure to its range of carrying straps.

The interior is also very detailed, with a zippered envelope dividing the main compartment into three smaller sections. I’d argue that all those partitions further limit what we can carry inside this already small purse, but they also make staying organized a cinch. At least with a zippered pocket and collection of credit card slots we can leave our wallet at home. Without that essential item to worry about there’s more space for other necessities.

We’re not getting a lot of bag for our dollar here, but at $225 a bag like the Mia doesn’t sound too extravagant to me.

Coach is the latest handbag label to team up with an artist for a new accessories line. The American fashion house has worked with Hugo Guinness for its latest limited edition range.

The London-born New York artist has lent his bold black sketches to 17 different accessories including leather wallets, reversible tote bags, key chains and even a set of playing cards. They’re from all from Coach’s men’s line, but I can imagine several pieces, including the wallets pictured, finding a place in the closets of many art-loving women.

Guinness said he was intrigued by the prospect of presenting his art in a brand new format.

“My artwork is usually framed in glass and placed on a wall, the idea of my block prints on totes, accessories — even playing cards — was really interesting to me,” he explained. “Coach understood and appreciated the simplicity of my art. When they asked me to create block prints that symbolized the Coach brand, I was intrigued. Coach is a New York institution, so I created what I see every day on the streets of the city — coffee cups, keys, sunglasses, handcuffs.“

The Hugo Guinness for Coach line features items at a range of price points, from $68 for the cheapest right up to $398. Look for them next February at the label’s website and selected Coach boutiques in North America, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Singapore, Ireland, France, and London.

Guess lets its materials do all the talking with this Lelah handbag.

In many cases it’s admirable to allow the fabrics to speak for themselves, but Guess’ approach seems lazy here. The faux fur is nice enough with its plush finish, but Guess hasn’t really done anything with it. The boxy shape doesn’t seem quite right, and the turn-lock clasp juts jarringly out of the pile. The furry hangtag is the final insult, but at least that’s removable.

It’s a shame the Lelah’s exterior is so disappointing, because once we open her up we realize it’s actually pretty smart. It has two generously sized interior compartments, which are both well appointed with their own organizational pockets. Its top handle is just a shade too short to be truly useful, but Guess has also given us a much longer shoulder strap.

At $148 this handbag isn’t even as cheap as I expect a Guess accessory to be. Admittedly the Lelah’s less expensive than a genuine fur purse, but it’s also far less stylish.

We see many unusual designer collaborations at Bag Bunch, but few are as quirky as this one. New York accessories designer Maggie Kervick has teamed up with Lifestyles condoms to create the I’m Covered accessories line.

The collection features the Dirty Little Skyn make-up bag, the I’m a Slave for Skyn wristlet, and the Living in Skyn tote purse which all seem to be plastered with condom wrappers. The “I’m Covered” interior lining of each purse is kitted out with an individual condom pocket, so you’ll always have protection close at hand. The accessories seem like a great way to spread the safe sex message, especially since each one comes with a complimentary box of condoms and a guide to using them correctly.

However I’m not sure everyone will want to carry condom wrapper covered bags. On one hand the bags make a strong statement declaring the wearer takes responsibility for their sexual health. However, the designs are far from subtle, and I’m sure they’d make many prudish purse lovers feel self conscious.

Sondra Roberts has made my heart go pitter-patter with this feminine lace flower minaudiere.

This egg-shaped purse appears to be covered with lacey flowers taken from ornamental doilies. Each bloom, even the teeny tiny ones, is dotted with an opalescent bead at the center. The combination of pearls and lacey flowers brings a sweet old-world charm to the futuristically shaped clutch.

This minaudiere’s egg shape isn’t simply about attracting attention; it’s also very ergonomic. The minaudiere will sit neatly in your palm, which is a good thing as Sondra Roberts hasn’t offered us a shoulder strap.

This minaudiere’s shape does limit storage space somewhat, as does its structured design. However I don’t think anyone buys such a clutch expecting practicality. It’ll hold the barest of essentials, but you may need to utilize the deep pockets of your partner for anything more.

The strap is a glaring omission but not entirely a surprising one for the money. At $165 it’s very cheap for a purse so stylish. I think I might have found my Christmas party season purse!

Messengers tend to be casual affairs designed for toting textbooks to class. But Cynthia Vincent has revealed the sophisticated potential of the style with this Anderson bag.

At its heart, this is the same casual flap-over design we’ve come to know and love. But its luxe looking materials set it apart. The body is made from snakeskin embossed leather, which does a better impression of a reptilian skin than many most I’ve seen. Cynthia Vincent’s got the scaly texture just right. The rust-colored body contrasts delightfully with the deep chocolate colored leather flap and accents. The combination is both earthy and refined, an intriguing combination that should turn heads.

The Anderson is smaller than many messengers, so it may not work as your next book bag. However its dimensions are appropriate for most everyday outings, which is really what a purse that looks this good deserves. Something so stylish shouldn’t be stuck inside a classroom, should it?

It looks a million bucks but it costs far less. In fact, the Anderson is relatively affordable at $295. That’s still not loose change, but it’s a fairly small investment for a big fashion return.

Jimmy Choo co-founder and chief creative officer Tamara Mellon has abruptly left the company she established 15 years ago with little notice or explanation.

Mellon sold the company in May to Labelux for £525 million. Both Mellon and her chief executive officer Joshua Schulman were expected to stay on as creative consultants. However she’s abandoned her new post, walking away with £85 million, or roughly $120 million US, in her pocket. Schulman has also tendered his resignation and plans to leave the company next year.

Mellon has not issued a public statement on her split with Jimmy Choo, so we’re left to speculate on her move. Insiders are suggesting that she’s cooking up something new with Schulman. Word is that they may start an entirely new brand. That handsome payout could definitely finance something of the sort. Mellon was recently named Harper Bazaar’s Businesswoman of the Year, so she’s certainly got the business nous to make it happen.

I’ll be interested to see where Jimmy Choo goes from here. It was never quite the same company since its namesake’s departure, but Mellon’s presence helped it retain its original heart. I wonder what the future holds, for both the Jimmy Choo fashion house and the wildly talented Ms Mellon.

In this busy modern world, most of us never leave our technology too far behind. Latico ensures we can keep our laptop and our style when we step out with this Joplin Tote.

This tote’s cheerful golden color turned my head. All too often tech accessories have masculine neutral tones, so it’s refreshing to see one that’s much more fun. I really like the shape of this tote too, but I’m not so sure about its execution.

Its pleats should have softened the design, but they fall a bit awkwardly. Sadly this makes the leather look cheaper than it should appear.

The Joplin is well organized though, with large front pockets and a spacious padded compartment for a laptop. Credit card and pen slots inside help businesswomen and tech lovers keep their essential items in order.

The Joplin’s not the perfect looking laptop tote, but it’s also much more appealing than many on the market. It also won’t break the bank at $229.

Lauren Santo Domingo, the co-founder of fashion sales site Moda Operandi, has tapped 11 leading designers to reinterpret classic woven mochila bags. Esteemed fashion houses including Valentino and Maison Martin Margiela have gone tribal for the BeLive Wayuu Mochila Project.

Mochila bags are a kind of knapsack handwoven by the Wayuu women living in Northern Colombia. It’s exciting to see such refined European labels taking their cues from these traditional artisans and giving their designs a little fashion forward flair. These handbags have forced most of the designers to step out of their comfort zone and that makes these accessories seem even more daring and fresh.

The results are stunning, but you’ll pay a premium for them. These designer made traditional purses are much steeper than most mochila handbags at $5000 a piece. Rather than looking at them as expensive handbags, perhaps we should consider that price as a very generous donation to the charities the BeLive Wayuu Mochila Project works with.
