Bisadora promises us a design that’s more fashion forward with this Runway Baby Belle.

Sadly though, this feels like more of the same from the label. It’s not exactly a bad bag, but its name promised so much more flair. Instead the design relies on a pop of red synthetic extending from the handles to the base. The sexy red stripe was inspired by the popular Corvette cars of the 1950s, but I’m not sure it’ll draw the same envy as the vintage automobiles.

The Runway Baby Belle will be too small for many modern misses, but with a little effort you can probably fit the items you really need inside its structured interior. I appreciate the pop of the red microfiber lining, although I wish the pocket was reinforced with the same tough synthetic we saw on the outside.

It seems unfair to quibble too much when a bag costs $35 though. That’s very cheap for any handbag, no matter what its flaws!

A collection of designer handbags owned by the late Elizabeth Taylor will be auctioned through Christie’s from December 13 to 16. Purses from Hermes, Balenciaga, Chanel, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Christian Dior are amongst the accessories on offer.

A different group of luxury purses will go under the hammer at Rockefeller Center each day during the auction period. There are also a number of items available for bidding through the Christie’s website. Interested parties can bid from today until December 17 on these online exclusives which include purses, fine and costume jewelry, apparel, ornaments, and other memorabilia owned by the Hollywood icon.

Those big fashion names are alluring enough, especially knowing that they once belonged to the alluring actress. But then when we consider The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor features many vintage purses, limited edition accessories, and one-of-a-kind handbags, it’s even more tempting. Given that, it’s probably unsurprising that these bags are expected to sell for well over their original retail values.

Browsing through the items available through the Christie’s website is seriously tempting me. It seems unfair to put all these items on show just before Christmas. Perhaps I need to drop a few hints to my nearest and dearest to ensure I find one of these designer purses underneath my tree!

Big Buddha’s created a stylish handbag for the season with this Chloe satchel.

This is one of those special bags that appears much richer than it really is. The luxurious look comes from the zigzag weave, which elegantly dresses up the purse’s synthetic body. The stitches cleverly hide the cheap material underneath. From a distance they also look like an intricate knit, which is perfect for the current chill in the air. Happily unlike so many Big Buddha bags the stitches are continued on the back of the bag for a sophisticated and cohesive look.

The interior is similarly impressive, with an array of zip and slip pockets. We’ve seen this kind of configuration before, but at this price point we don’t take these kinds of organizational aids for granted. They work in tandem with the zippered top to make the Chloe secure. The dual handles are a shade shorter than I’d like, but most girls should still be able to sling them over their shoulder.

I love the classic appeal of the monochromatic color scheme, but the Chloe’s also available in a more unusual burgundy palette if you prefer. Or perhaps, since they’re only $94.95, you could indulge in both!

Diane von Furstenberg, Carlos Falchi, Nanette Lepore, and a host of other American fashion designers have decorated canvas totes to help survivors of April’s Alabama storms.

The Fashion Targets Tornadoes campaign will see the handbags auctioned off via eBay. Bidding commenced this week and will end on December 8. At that time 80% of the proceeds raised will benefit the American Red Cross.

The auction is the brainchild of Marcia Sherill, an Alabama native and the head of Anabelle by Marcia Sherill. Her company designed the totes and coordinated the initiative through its philanthropic Carry for Hope division.

“There are plenty of charities, but I wanted to focus on charities in Alabama,” she explained. “This is my home. I have to focus on Alabama.“

She explained that while the storms hit months ago, the victims are still suffering and going without many essential items and services.

And of course Sherill also contributed a tote. Her handbag features the image of a camellia, which is Alabama’s state flower.

There’s still time for the bids to increase, but right now the bags are priced very reasonable. Many remain at their $25 starting price, and the most expensive are still relatively affordable at $76. I hope they command a bit more for the charity before bidding closes, but at least every little bit helps.

Betsey Johnson hopes to win our hearts with this playful Be Mine Again satchel.

I don’t expect she’ll impress anyone who isn’t already a fan though, as this bag doesn’t stray too far from her traditional loud and proud approach. The bag’s black body is far from basic with its glossy patent sheen and heart-shaped quilting. I love the romantic stitching, but I’m a bit disappointed in the polyurethane material. It’s thin and cheap, so it puckers awkwardly around the stitches.

The studded heart-shaped panel adds another layer of flamboyance. Personally I think it’s too much, but I’ve never really been on Team Betsey. Something tells me what I see is outrageous is exactly what her fans will praise.

While the exterior seems overdone to me I’m impressed by the interior. It’s roomy but not overwhelmingly so, especially with the zippered pocket and open pouches to help us stay organized. The lining feels a bit cheap, but at least it does the job.

Perhaps the Be Mine Again looks so cheap because it is. At $98 it’s definitely one of the more affordable designer handbags on the market. I can’t imagine that low price will convince anyone who wasn’t already on board, but I’m sure it’s a relief to girls who’ve already had their hearts stolen!

Beirn offers two bags for the price of one with this stylish Grace tote.

This handbag is so striking, with its regal purple hue and mottled stripes. In fact, I was surprised to read it’s made not from the snakeskin that Beirn typically uses, but an embossed leather. Fashion snobs may see this as a step down, but when the finish looks this good I think it’s unfair to be critical.

Using scaly leather rather than real snake allows Beirn to make this bag bigger than its usual totes. I appreciate all the extra storage space, but I wish there was more than the long zippered pocket inside to help us stay organized.

There is a matching wristlet though that we can always stash away when we need more assistance. But personally I think I’d get more use from this striking small bag as an evening clutch.

The straps are also really thin, especially for a tote of this size. Since they’re made from leather I expect they’ll hold up, but they will dig into your skin if the Grace is filled to the brim.

In the fashion world $515 is reasonable for such a stylish tote made from high quality materials. However the addition of the wristlet makes the Grace an even more alluring proposition. Is it tempting you?

The continued popularity of the Prada and Miu Miu labels has helped Prada Spa enjoy a 75% increase in sales for the year’s third quarter. The company posted a net profit of €93.6 million, or roughly $125 million US, which is significantly more than the €89.9 million forecasted.

Much of this success has to do with the label’s prestige leather goods. Handbags, wallets, and other leather accessories accounted for more than 56% of Prada Spa’s total sales. Footwear was also up by 14% while ready-to-wear apparel enjoyed a modest increase of 3%.

The Asia Pacific region was the most lucrative for Prada. It doubled its sales in the Greater China region, and enjoyed a 45% boost in the Far East. While other figures weren’t quite as impressive, all geographic areas recorded growth rates in the double digits, including 21% in Europe and 19% in the United States of America.

We’ve seen plenty of designer labels increasing their sales of late, but it’s still impressive to see the way luxury labels are thriving. After all, retail analysts were sure the uncertain economy would hit fashion houses hard. I guess that no matter how tough times get, us girls are still going to indulge in a few little luxuries!

Prada Purses on eBay

This bold red Liza Tote from Bebe can provide the perfect pop of color to combat gray wintery days.

I must admit, the Liza’s red color really turned my head. The glossy leatherette isn’t the best quality synthetic I’ve seen, but that scarlet shade makes up for its shortcomings. I love way the polished finish is complemented by woven stripes, which help give definition to the tote’s curved body. The woven details are mirrored in the woven pair of handles and the drawstring closure.

While I love the casual look it brings, that drawstring isn’t the perfect closure. It’s fiddly to use, and not very secure. Open it up to reveal a spacious and well appointed main compartment. The array of slip and zip pockets don’t exceed our expectations, but they do meet them, which is notable at this price point. The fabric lining feel a bit cheap, but it at least does the trick.

At $119 this tote is an affordable way to bring some color to your winter wardrobe. It’s got some shortcomings, but it represents great value for money.

British artist Billie Achilleos has turned Louis Vuitton handbags into iconic Australian animals to celebrate today’s opening of a new Louis Vuitton store in George Street, Sydney.

You might remember that Achilleos created similar sculptures for Louis Vuitton’s press events in June. As an Aussie I may be a bit biased, but I think this trio of critters surpasses the earlier creations. There’s a kangaroo, complete with a joey in her pouch, a doe-eyed koala, and a snapping crocodile.

Achilleos’ friendly Australian animals will be joined by Academy Award winning local actress Cate Blanchett at the launch. She’ll open the doors for the press and VIPs to the store, which is the first Louis Vuitton Maison outlet in the country. Sydney shoppers will need to wait until December 3 to sample the boutique’s wares. These including a made to order shoe service and a personalized handbag initiative called Haute Maroquinerie.

Louis Vuitton are rolling out the red carpet, perhaps in an effort to compete with that new Gucci store located just a stone’s throw away. Maybe we shouldn’t look at the fashion labels as competitors but as complementary outlets designed to lure luxury lovers into the city. Will you be shopping at Louis Vuitton’s new digs?

Be & D dresses up the classic canvas tote with this Nixie bag.

The glazed lizard finish makes the tote’s yellow canvas body feel a little more luxurious. I’ve never seen canvas treated this way, but it’s incredibly well done. I don’t think it’ll fool anyone, but it does make the tote seem more exotic. The cheerfully hued fabric is further dressed up with contrasting tan lambskin leather panels. The details help separate the Nixie from the sea of canvas totes on the market.

It’s just a shame the interior hasn’t lived up to its promise. While I appreciate the Nixie’s generously sized main compartment, I feel it deserves more than a single zippered pocket. That’s especially true since there’s no other closure. That little pouch is really too small for holding everything of value. The base isn’t very wide either, so avoiding spilled cargo once the bag’s set down is a bit of a challenge.

Most canvas totes cost far less than the $398 Be & D is asking, but most totes don’t look as lovely as the Nixie. Personally I demand more functional features for that sort of money, but if style matters most I’m sure you’ll be tempted.
